This highly efficient access point is the best choice for Small office / Home office users. It allows computers and network devices to gain wireless access in several modes throughout their network at speeds of up to 750Mbps*. Built-in Dual-Band frequencies, 2.4GHz and 5GHz, the HD45B is an essential component to accommodate the growing demand for streaming high definition video, video chatting, downloading large files, online gaming, etc. Along with wireless connectivity, the HD45B has 5 gigabit ports for connecting your computers that do not have wireless access. It also offers the latest wireless security features, ensuring that your files and network are safe from outside intruders.

The 2.4GHz is the most commonly used wireless bandwidth. It also has a limited number of bandwidth for multiple activities, such as sending emails, video chatting, streaming movies, playing games, etc. Interference and major backlog to online activities are common in the 2.4Ghz frequency since it is shared by different devices (i.e. laptops, tablets, smartphones, and even your mcirowave). The Dual-Band technology provides maximum flexibility for your Dual-Band compatible devices to connect to the popular 2.4GHz frequency and also off-load traffic to a faster less-crowded 5.0GHz frequency.

The image below compares a standard wireless network to a Hawking Dual-Band Wireless Network. In a standard wireless network, all network activities are going through a narrow and smaller bandwidth. Dual-Band Wireless Network let's your traffic follow freely and at a faster speed.

A common problem with standard wireless routers is that the quality of most standard wireless networks diminishes significantly past a coverage radius of 200 feet. Anywhere outside the coverage zone will have slow and unstable connections, or even no connection at all. The HD45B is designed to pick up an existing 2.4GHz or 5.0GHz wireless signal from an access point or router, then repeat it in your selected frequency. Simply connect to the HD45B wirelessly, open your web browser and type in the setup page for the device to configure. Installation can be done in less than 3 minutes.

In addition, Hawking Dual-Band Wireless-N Access Point/Bridge promotes data speeds of up to 300Mbps for 2.4GHz frequency and 450Mbps for 5.0GHz frequency, simultaneously. This means users can have more bandwidth and transfer more files in less time.

The HD45B combines Dual-Band technology with removable external antenna feature that guarantees quick and easy upgrade for range demanding environments.

The HD45B is quick and easy to install using a Wi-Fi enabled device (i.e. tablet, smartphone, Mac or Windows computer). Hassle-free means, there is no Ethernet cable or CD required for the installation. Simply power up the unit, use a Wi-Fi enabled device, and login into the set up page. This installation feature lets you configure and set up the HD45B within minutes.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat dual-band WAP

Pros: Easy to setup. Running several of these in a very large manufacturing facility and have had no issues. In a year, I think I've had to power cycle just once. I'm in the 4.5 star range, just because of the web interface. (see cons)

Cons: Web interface was a bit flakey, but nothing that can't be overcome.

Other Thoughts: Will be buying more of these.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The WAP installed and configured as expected. However, I Have not tried using it as Bridge.

Cons: No cons found yet, not that I expect to find any.

Other Thoughts: The documentation (Copyright ©2012 by Hawking Technologies) is somewhat confusing at first; at one point it states "802.11b/g/Draft-N", while other places it states "802.11a/b/g/n". I almost didn't buy it because I thought it was only a 'Draft-N' product.

1 out of 5 eggsUseless - stay away

Pros: (allegedly) simultaneous dual-band
gigabit ports
very strong signal even far away

Cons: 5GHz Network goes up and down at random.
Resetting to default config works about 25% of the time (I did this at least 8 times to try to get this thing working).
Giving the unit a new static IP address makes the web interface go down (even after restarting). The unit responds to pings at the new address, but it will not present the web interface on the new address, and it isn't at the old address, either.

Other Thoughts: I've set up more networks, routers, and access points than I care to remember, and I tried setting this AP up many times. At first I assumed that I had done something wrong, but after repeating the process several times, I'm quite sure that this product simply does not work the way it is supposed to.

I noticed that the web interface is serving asp pages. Seems like a lousy choice of technology for this sort of device. But, I can't say that I'm surprised.

It's possible that my choice of an atypical netmask ( triggered a bug in the device. I didn't care to try and troubleshoot more of my life away on this piece of junk, so I don't know for sure. Perhaps it works fine if you stick to I don't know and don't care, since that's not the netmask my network uses.

Manufacturer Response:

That is a very strange problem. I just tested our HD45B we use in the office with your settings (changed the IP address to my choosing and used the same subnet mask) and did not experience anything similar to what you reported. I am currently connected via a Mac and a Windows PC via 5GHz for the past 3 months using this product and have not experienced any drops. Can you perhaps provide us with more information so we can get to the bottom of your issue? It sounds like you might have received a defective unit since we've sold a few and we haven't had any reports in techsupport of something similar happening. Sorry for your experience but if you have any more information, we would like to get to the bottom of this. You can contact us at or call us at 888-202-3344 24/7.
