2 out of 5 eggsOne user at a time

Pros: Allowed us to print wirelessly to a printer that did not have built-in Wi-Fi connectivity

Cons: Required that Hawking's software be installed on all computers that were going to print to the print server, and only one user at a time could be connected.

Seemed to drop pretty frequently, and we eventually packed it away. Was costing us more in labor trying to make it work than the cost of just replacing it.

Other Thoughts: Would probably be fine for home, especially if you only have a single computer and printer.

5 out of 5 eggsThis is the print server to get

Pros: I followed the instructions in its entirety, it does maintain in there that you have to have the print server plugged in via ethernet to the router to get an IP address, and while plugged in that way, you must access control panel to setup wifi parameters. Then you can unplug and reboot and it will connect wirelessly. I set it up like that and it worked flawlessly.

Cons: none

1 out of 5 eggsReset button?

Pros: The unit is a convenient size and its broadcast range is quite good.

Cons: After purchasing the unit I ran into a situation that required a a reset of the device. I followed the instructions that came with the unit. The reset button did not work at all!! I followed the chain of command and instead of help I was waylaid and placated. Don't waste your time.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi
Sorry for your experience. To reset the device, please press and hold the reset button down for at least 10 seconds, then release it. Power off/on and it should reset. You can also use the control center to connect to the device and go to the UI to initiate a factory reset also.

2 out of 5 eggsHandy but poor customer relations

Pros: The unit ha a good broadcast range and talks to my office router quite nicely

Cons: I ran into a problem with the unit and wanted to a hard reset. The reset button on the back of the unit proved to be useless. I contacted customer service and was delayed by the organizations many departments. I followed the chain of command at Hawking but no one seemed to be able to help.

Other Thoughts: Make a product that has a properly functioning reset button!!!

1 out of 5 eggsSetup Nightmare Re-Visited Many Times

Pros: When working, it does provide a stable connection.

Cons: We had had this device for less than six months, and it has finally decided to quit. It was a pain to setup, and now we cannot even access the setup even when it is defaulted. Getting this device connected on any kind of secured wifi is a chore. When a laptop or PC is plugged into it RJ45 jack, the wifi cannot be tested. The laptop or PC needs to be disconnected from the device, and then you can try pinging it or trying to reach it via its software. We has also had to go through the setup several times before when it just stops working -- usually after a pair of months.

Other Thoughts: There are no other wireless USB print server choices unless you buy something refurbished.

Manufacturer Response:

Sorry for your experience. It sounds like you are doing the WiFi setup wrong. When first setting it up, it should be plugged into the router. It will then obtain an IP address from your network. At that point, you run our control center from any computer. It will detect the HMPS2u and it should allow you connect to the settings page where you can set up the WiFi Security. Our device supports WEP 64/128 bit and WPA/WPA2 so most standard consumer WiFi Security should work. There is no need to plug the HMPS2U into your computer to do the setup.

5 out of 5 eggsHawking Printer Server

Pros: This Print server went into my network with no problem. MFC printers, printers and USB flash drives installed with no problem. If you want a print server, this is the one to get! Wish other wireless equipment was as easy to setup, everybody else should strive to this level.

Cons: None.
