5 out of 5 eggsWorks with Multifunction Printer!

Pros: No software required to set it up (Point your browser to the default IP address)
No specific cord connection sequence required (like some print servers)
Actually works with my Canon ImageClass 6500 (most print servers do not work with MF machines)

Cons: Doesn't include a USB cord (I already had one)

Other Thoughts: Extremely pleased that it took about 5 minutes to have this up and printing.

1 out of 5 eggsWaste of time and money

Pros: none

Cons: Mostly cannot remain connected. Server looses itself every minute or so. Have to reboot, spits out 2 pages of diagnostics, and that's about all you'll get. Original software didn't work at all. Uninstalled, downloaded latest software, updated software, firmware, etc. New version of software much better. Communication with server, when found, was fair at best. Moment to moment server is lost, reboot, two pages of dx. on and on

Other Thoughts: I can copy a print job to a thumb drive, drive 9 miles to town, print at a MB store and drive home for less money and aggravation then trying to print anything on/through my network. I have 2 of these and you can have them for postage.

5 out of 5 eggsHawking Print Server

Pros: Got it running in a snap, great small size. Doesn't need the software included in some cases, just type the server's IP in your internet browser to make changes.

Cons: The lights are a bit dim, but no biggie.

Other Thoughts: From previous posts many people had problems with communication or connectivity, I'd recommend you check the USB cable, since I had that problem and thought it was the printer and/or the server, but it was a bad cable.

5 out of 5 eggsHawking Print Server

Pros: This a great little device to turn a printer into a network printer. It works very well as 192.168.1.250 on my internal network. I can set up a usb printer in cups as an ipp address on port 631 or on port 2100 in a tcp/ip configuration. Any one can use the printer in my home network with no problems. Linux uses Linux print drivers and MS Windows uses Windows drivers. It sure beats paying out big bucks for a networkable printer.

Cons: none

1 out of 5 eggsPiece of junk

Pros: None because it doesn't work.

Cons: This device is a complete piece of junk. It doesn't work with either of my printers, on Windows XP. I can get to the print server, configure it, etc. But after that nothing can actually communicate with the printer.

2 out of 5 eggsNot for enclosed area

Pros: Ease of setup

Cons: Overheats, loses connection easily. Sometimes not found on network by install software. Don't use with a printer where the parallel port area is enclosed with no air circulation, such as an HP Laserjet 1200.

3 out of 5 eggsLooses Connectivity

Pros: Can be configured for TCP/IP printing. No need to load software. Compact. Works with Dell Laser Printers.

Cons: Looses connectivity from time to time> You will have to reset it by powering it off then on.

Other Thoughts: Would have been happy with this item if it weren't for the connectivity issues. Hope Hawkins will address this on the next firmware upgrade.

1 out of 5 eggsPiece of junk

Pros: Fairly easy installation if you have basic networking knowledge.
Small size.

Cons: Poor documentation.
Gets *VERY* hot, perhaps the cause of its other problems.
Looses its connectivity frequently which requires you to reset it, sometimes multiple times before it works again.
Very slow printing, even with low quality photos.

Other Thoughts: It failed more times that it worked, and when it did work it printed so slow it wasn't worth it. Sold it and using my computer instead.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works ok with bugs.

Cons: Get error "printer not responding" but it does work.

Other Thoughts: Good luck ever getting a rebate from this company. I never received mine.

3 out of 5 eggsCaution: Does not work with all-in-one type printers

Comments: Item will not work with all-in-one printers. It not because of this product, but because of the way the all-in-one's interface with the PC. I assume this product would work well with most stand alone printers, it just does not work with all-in-one and multi-function type printers. Lesson learned and now I only hope that Newegg will allow me to return it for a refund. Download data sheet from manufacturer's website for details.
