The Hawking HPS1P 10/100M Internet Print Server is a powerful and convenient tool to connect your parallel printer to a 10/100M Network. Use the HPS1P instead of a dedicated computer to be the main contact point for all of your network printing requests. With the HPS1P and Internet Printing Protocol technology, printing over a WAN or the Internet becomes much easier. You can send a print job to a printer in another country just as easily as sending a print job to your home or office printer. IPP eliminates the need for fax communications between offices. Simply print an original document through the HPS1P's IPP capabilities and send it from one office to another. The print quality from IPP printing is equal to that of a document printed from your local office. With the HPS1P, your printer becomes a fully functional network print station.

1 out of 5 eggsNever worked right

Pros: Support was decent in sending replacement

Cons: Unfortunately, first one only worked sporatically on an HP4. Replacement unit didn't work at all.

Other Thoughts: I thought about buying another print server from another vendor, but I guess it is time to buy a $150 Laser printer with built-in networking capabilities.

4 out of 5 eggsIt does what it says.

Pros: I have two of these now and they are both working fine. Much cheaper than replacing a perfectly good printer with a new one or buying an HP JetDirect.

Cons: None.

4 out of 5 eggsBe Careful with DHCP

Comments: I purchased 18 of these from newegg and installed in a small corp environment. The seem to work fine, although my He**** Pac**** LJ4000 didn't work with them. Maybe I missed something. Be careful, the DHCP server is enabled by default. I came in one morning and workstations were getting duplicate IP address errors -doooh!!! Who wants their print server to be a DHCP server?!?!. Had a couple extra at the end of the project and new egg RMA'd them w/o any hassle. Thanks new egg, I'll be back

2 out of 5 eggsWARNING--new version is too big

Comments: The new version of the HPS1P is bigger than the original one, and it DOES NOT FIT in many Laserjet printers--like the Laserjet 2300. What an incredibly boneheaded move by Hawking! Opt for the Nxxxxr PS101 instead.

5 out of 5 eggsHAWKING HPS1P

Comments: I purchased this to replase a Netgear PS110 that was fried by a nearby lightning strike. Installation and configuration was a snap and worked effortlessly from my Windows and Linux desktops. For Linux, nothing needs to be installed. For both CUPS and Networked Unix(LPD) just set the IP address; and the Queue to lp1, select your print driver, and save. Your test page will come out.

Thanks Newegg for the fast shipping!

3 out of 5 eggsHawking Server

Comments: Fairly easy to set up and get working, I do have problems with print jobs locking up to the point I can not clear them without stopping the running process if the print server is not on and through all of it's set up checks before I send a print job to it. Other than that it works fine.
