5 out of 5 eggsBest router I have owned

Pros: Prior to purchasing this router I went through three Linksys routers. They would work good for a while, 6 - 12 months, then inexplicably, they would lose the Internet side. I was frustrated with Linksys and decided to try something else. This Rosewill router has been flawless in 8 months of use. Contrary to some other reviews, I have no problem in accessing the router with Firefox, or using Firefox with it in any way.

Cons: These are NOT the fault of Rosewill. Just facts.
1. It is not supported by DD-WRT and other 3rd party firmware.
2. When attempting to add a device, Network Magic reports it has determined that my router only supports wired connections. The router does support wireless connections. This is a problem with Network Magic, but I wanted to mention it for people that use Network Magic.

Other Thoughts: The value to cost ratio is superb. This is a basic, solid, reliable router. It is the most reliable piece of equipment in my network. If it was supported by DD-WRT, I wouldn't even think about buying any other router.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little router

Pros: Excellent signal strength in moderately sized house, low energy consumption, good features in online configuration, attractive and small.

Cons: Online interface slow, no usage history other than mac association table

Other Thoughts: This is a great little router with all the features you'd expect from its more expensive counterparts. I haven't dropped my connection yet (although my laptop is a Thinkpad and they get great reception) and the wired connection is flawless. The unit gets a little warm (not even as close to as hot as my modem), but it only draws between 3-4 watts according to my Kill-a-watt. The online interface is slow in firefox, but configuring is straightforward and I can't imagine a reason it would be necessary more than once a month.

3 out of 5 eggsCheap, tricky, functional

Pros: This is a cheap, unobtrusive, decent looking small router with acceptable signal strength. It has worked acceptably for a week now, so I'll give it an average rating.

Cons: The web interface is buggy as hell. As noted elsewhere, it doesn't play nice with Firefox, though it handles Safari well enough. Even with the compatibility, reconfiguration is slowwwww and the web page doesn't like refreshing much. It's not totally broken, but it isn't pretty, easy to use or fun, either.

The wired ethernet generates line noise in my speakers when both speakers and internet plugged into a Mac Mini; that may or may not be the router's fault, though.

Wireless signal seems slower than the airport express it replaced. Even on non-Apple hardware.

Other Thoughts: Overall, it's cheap (especially with the rebate) and it works. Oh, and for the small number of us who care, the wall wart is rated for 220V or 240V.

5 out of 5 eggsExceeded Expectations

Pros: Range. Got this for a decent sized condo my parents just bought. Covers the whole place with 4 bars of connectivity (both levels). Price. D'uh. Physical attributes. Small, light, and spiffy looking. Functionality. We have left it running for a while with up to three computers hooked up via wireless and through a wired switch. It works.

Cons: No slots on the bottom to allow it to slide on screws set in the wall. Would have been nice if my network orientation were switched around a bit. Short power cord.

Other Thoughts: Well worth the (little bit of) money to get something that works well. Got it with a mail in rebate.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked Great - until it died

Pros: Easy set up, worked great for the first 3 months. I had no problems. My son was able to connect in his room easily, I could connect on my laptop anywhere in our house.

Cons: Bought it April 1, 2008 - July 14, 2008 the power lights went off and never came back on. I just replugged everything in this morning to test it before I came back to order a different router and this one is dead after a little over 3 months of use.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
We are sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused you. The problem might have been caused by a power surge. We would be more than happy to replace this unit for you at our cost. Please email us at rma@rosewill.com for your replacement. We look forward to hear from you soon.
Thanks,

2 out of 5 eggsDissapointed - No Support

Pros: Dirt Cheap, Small, Signal Strength, Appearance

Cons: Mail-in rebate, Technical Support, Web-Interface, Build Quality, Power Cord Length, Packaging feels like it is made out of recycled TP

Other Thoughts: I received the router fast with "free" 3-day shipping. I set it up immediately, and realized that the web interface doesn't work with Firefox. Also, to my dismay, the router only has WEP as a wireless authentication method when it is supposed to have WPA2. I called Rosewill, and they said a tech would call me back in...2-3 HOURS!!!! OK great, I'll just sit and wait, I don't have anything better to do anyway. Needless to say, the phone call never came. I also e-mailed them nearly 24 hours ago and still have not received a response. I know I can just RMA it, but what a hassle. Besides all of that, signal strength, quality and range seem to be good. Too bad my grandma can figure out how to hack through the wimpy WEP security. Perhaps a manufacturer response is on its way...

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
We are sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused you. This unit is suppose to support WPA2 and also WEP. We do not know why you are not able to get WPA2 on your unit. Please give us a call at 800-575-9885 so we may further assist you. We look forward to hear from you soon.
Thanks,

1 out of 5 eggsdont waste your time

Pros: small footprint, basic connection is quick and seems stable for surfing.

Cons: the firmware - while appearing configurable, cannot be configured to open various ports thru the firewall. each time i set up ports and click save nothing happens. then when restarting to see if that will then open the ports the changes are lost - tried this 3 times in a row. may as well go back to the router this was replacing.

Other Thoughts: this is great for newbies or people just wanting the internet and have little need for configuration. i guess it was only $15 after the rebate but save the money and spend it something better if you need some advanced configuration.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
We are sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused you. We do not know why the unit will not save your port information. Please give us a call at 800-575-9885 so we may further assist you. 3 out of 5 eggsNot compatible with Firefox

Pros: I have deployed about 10 of these routers thru out time because of there very low price and the fact they seem to work ok.

Cons: Will not work with firefox web browser, none of the forms work correctly and you can't get anything to go thru right. Also, I have had the router time out a few times which is causing a lot of frustration.

Other Thoughts: Dollar for dollar i would by a better name before this. If it's about 60% the price or lower of a name brand I would by this again.
