1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy, this thing is a piece of garbage

Pros: Fits easily into my closet since I can't use it anymore

Cons: Where do I begin... low signal output, frequent disconnects, causes my computer to stutter when I connect to it, overall very disappointing piece of hardware, guess I shouldn't have expected much for the price.

Other Thoughts: Save yourself hours of frustration, do not purchase this hunk of junk!

2 out of 5 eggsExtremely disappointed

Pros: 1. Small footprint
2. Works fine as a wired router using network cables (used with two of my PCs).

Cons: I originally set the Rosewill up with the N+G+B option, since two of my computers, one printer, and my TIVO still use the G protocol. Out of the box, the router disconnected frequently whereas my old Linksys WRT54GS never disconnected in its several years of operation. Upgrading the Rosewill router to the latest drivers and app versions (from the Rosewill web site) didn't fix the problem. Upgrading actually seemed to make the problems worse: the initial connection almost never took place, and, the receiving PCs frequently could not even see the router. (This is all with a duplicate of the security mode used on my Linksys router.) I also tried using the G only mode and that did not fix the problems. As soon as I replaced the Rosewill with my old reliable Linksys, all of the connect/disconnect problems disappeared.

Other Thoughts: 1. One of my PCs has a Rosewill wireless G card which was easy to set up and has worked well for the two years it has been installed. My experience with this Rosewill router has been exactly the opposite: hours spent trying to make it function reliably and finally giving up.
2. After entering the hexadecimal codes for WEP security and applying the changes, the Rosewill software hides those codes (asterisks in place of hexadecimal). So be sure you double check the codes before applying. Otherwise it's a do over.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Thank you very much for purchase the RK-577. The problem might be due to a defective unit and is causing all of the problems with connection. Please kindly contact Rosewill support team either via phone at 800-575-9885 or via email at rma@rosewill.com so we may assist you with a replacement. We are eager to assist you in any possible way. Pros: I love this router. The speed and wireless range are good. It doesn't have many options, but everything I need is there!

Cons: The firmware is buggy. With the latest version, I couldn't connect to any servers with games based on HL and HL2 engine. Downgraded firmware to 1.0.8 and now it is stable.

Other Thoughts: I will probably buy the same router for my father.

Pros: Cheap, decent range, wireless N, repeater mode, small and portable, good basic wireless router.

Cons: Small and light, so ethernet cables may pull it off table or tip it on its side depending where you place it.

Other Thoughts: Blue LEDs on front are pretty bright.

5 out of 5 eggsSee Ya LinkSys ...

Pros: Easy setup, easy configuration. Worked right out of the box. I've always had linksys and netgear routers. House was two levels with a basement makes three. I placed the router in the basement in my home office. Upstairs I was still getting great connections, being two levels up. I replaced two linksys routers as well as a netgear router.
I also use VOIP with a Cisco (Linksys) phone adapter. Once I forwarded the ports, the home phone works like a charm.

Cons: Can't change the "admin" username. Just make sure you put in a tight password.
During a power outage, my VOIP phone will not connect. I've figured out, there's a certain sequence that I have to boot the devices. Cable modem first, then the router, then the VOIP box. Seem the router takes longer to boot than the VOIP device. Work around, I found that plugging all of the devices into a UPS resolves this, unless the power outage is for a long time.

Other Thoughts: This thing rocks. I would purchase again, no regrets.

3 out of 5 eggsNot good for anything but basic web access

Pros: Easy setup wizard for beginners.
Good for web browsing and email.

Cons: Can only forward single ports.

Needs DMZ for any program that uses a large port range.

Everything that isn't in the setup wizard isn't explained properly at all. This router is easy to setup but difficult to modify.

Other Thoughts: Unless you are only needing a wireless router for basic web browsing or email, you should really look for another router. You can only forward ports one at a time, so even programs that need a relatively small number of ports takes forever to forward. If you need to forward a large number of ports (such as Steam client) it is impossible. If someone actually had the resolve to program every port in a range, they would find they have a limited number of forwarding slots and that it really is impossible to forward them all.

Also, you must reset both your router and modem after setting up the router the first time for it to function properly. Nothing in the packaged directions mentions this. The only reason I knew is because this page on Newegg specifically mentions it.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for the money

Pros: Great little router, and I do mean little. Its interface is functional and does have a fair amount of options. The range is really nice it covers my yard from front to back 60 feet or so in radius. Connections seem most stable when left in b/g/n mode.

Cons: It like quite a few other routers has a problem with MAC addresses that dont begin with 00: as in it rejects it as invalid. It doesnt have GB wired speed but I knew that and how much do you want for $35.

Other Thoughts: Come on Rosewill and you other manufacturers give use some firmware upgrade to fix that issue. Other than that at this price point for N wireless its tough to beat.
