Works as a WiFi/Ethernet bridge
- Pros: - Can be configured as WiFi/Ethernet bridge to tap in to existing network.
- Nice and cheap! - G speed OK, I haven't reconfigured my network to try N yet.
- Cons: - Firmware buggy, WLAN uses different MAC than printed on sticker or reported via HTTP admin (NOTE THIS IF YOU USE MAC FILTERS: TURN FILTERING OFF AND VERIFY MAC OR WASTE LOTS OF TIME TRYING TO CONNECT).
- Took a LONG time to configure, firmware not intuitive. - HTTP logs are rudimentary at best. - Ethernet and power connectors are weak and will lose contact easily with a little push.
- Other Thoughts: I got this to use as a N WiFi/Ethernet bridge, and I'm happy to report that I was able to get it to work configured in "Repeater Mode."
The misreported MAC address caused me a lot of headaches so we need a firmware upgrade, Rosewill! That said, even considering the hiccups this was cheap enough to warrant 4 eggs just for working well once set up.
Solid N Router
- Pros: Solid performance in a small to medium sized apartment using N spec devices: 270 Mb/s 15 ft away through a wall.
Stable: No resets required over 1+ months of use (the router has not been turned off in over a month). Runs cool in an open environment (on top of my desk). Configuration how plenty of options for the average user. Quick resets during configuration. Supports WPA2. Great price!
- Cons: G connections are more unstable, particularly if the router is set to operate as a G device (it is pretty much unusable in this configuration). If you're looking to run a mostly G spec wireless network, look elsewhere. Minus one egg for this.
Does not have gigabit RJ-45 LAN (I would probably add the last egg if it did). Router web interface does not seem to have a way to change the login account name, reducing security (overall, the router configuration page seems like it could use some polishing). Router configuration interface should mention that WPA is not compatible with most N devices.
- Other Thoughts: I have not tried a number of pieces of functionality, such as using the router as a wireless bridge, the configuration Wizard, or WPS.
Helpful configuration Hints (from my school of hard knocks): 1) Most N devices cannot connect using a WPA type of encryption: use WPA2 (I cannot recommend using WEP, though it is supported). 2) When changing the password, do not change the user name...I had strange experiences with this that eventually required me to reset the router to factory defaults since I could no longer connect. 3) Always use the 2.4GHZ (b+g+n) band. All other types are unreliable. 4) Don't forget to change the default router configuration password since the dialog states the default value. 5) If you're looking for added security, be sure to limit connections to the network to MAC addresses for only your devices in addition to running WPA2 encryption and using a network passphrase 12+ characters long that includes lower case and upper case letters, numbers, and symbols.

Rosewill Customer Support Review
- Pros: Recently had occasion to contact Rosewill tech support by email regarding 4 laptops connected to this router and showing only 150Mbps. The first response was in less than 24 hours and requested actual adapter model numbers. Less than 24 hours again came the 2nd response with a working solution for all 4 laptops. Very fast and very accurate support here. Thanks Rosewill !!
- Cons: Lights a bit bright for my bedroom location. I guess I'll have to move my network rack one of these days anyway or find another place to sleep.
- Other Thoughts: Very small and light. Runs real cool.

Older PC/NB may have problems connecting (slow or fail to open the network) with RNX-N4/N4PS. This is due to a driver issue of your wireless client trying to connect to new N router. Please update the wireless driver of your PC/NB to solve this issue. |
