1 out of 5 eggsPoor product, falsely advertised

Pros: Good packaging.

Cons: The product is listed as a dual band wireless adapter. This is misleading and false advertising as this adapter only allows 1 frequency connection at a time. This means only 1 connection can be connected to 2.4ghz or 5ghz. Speeds on device were hardly 144Mpbs right next to the router. Other cheaper adapters connect over 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz at 300Mpbs. This device says its rated at 300Mpbs.

I was also charged a restocking fee from newegg.....not sure how that works since the item was falsely advertised.

Microsoft drivers do not support 5ghz connections. You have to install the drives from their site, not from the CD and then specify the correct driver.

Other Thoughts: Spend the money on a better adapter and stay away from this product.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Thank you very much for purchasing this unit.
We strive to provide the most reliable and highest quality products to our customers.

Please keep in mind all dual-band adapters will only connect to one frequency at a given time, this is not misleading or false advertising.
Thanks for the feedback we will pass it along to our QA and Design teams.

1 out of 5 eggsUnstable hardware

Pros: One of the few Windows 8 compatible USB wireless adapter at the time.

Cons: Does not work at 5GHz in Windows 8. Mysteriously lose connection from time to time. Bandwidth will go up and down. Sometimes the ping will be in the triple digit. I had a Netgear WNR2000 and now a Netgear WNR4700 and the same low throughput appear from time to time on both routers.

Other Thoughts: Very disappointed with this product. Has not been very stable from day one. Should have returned it when I had the chance...

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well. Windows 8.1 a little screwy

Pros: Plug and play. Comes with a neat utility program that allows tweaking of the frequency nodes. Picks up both 2.4 and 5Ghz bands

Cons: device drivers can get muddled when upgrading to windows 8.1.

Other Thoughts: If running on a system with Windows 8.1 you may run into a driver issue that prevents the adapter from picking up 5GHz band. In this case you will need to manually update the driver, then tell windows to let you pick, and make sure to pick the one from RaLink (not the MS one)

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Range

Pros: Fast, reliable, inexpensive, great range.

Cons: Takes up a little more space than smaller ones that I have owned.

Other Thoughts: There is a hotspot right near my apartment but my phone and the built in wireless card on my motherboard cannot reach it. This wireless adapter picks it up clearly and the speed is amazing. Highly recommend!

4 out of 5 eggsWorks with windows 8...just be leary about 8.1

Pros: pushed my old USB wireless adapter till windows 8 said time to upgrade. Plugged it in and windows recognized it without a prob and had no connection probs.

Cons: Having issues with windows 8.1 and this adapter. Worked great under normal windows but when I installed 8.1 it became a head ache. This might not be the case with everyone out there. It could be a combination of a few things or this USB adapter might jut not like 8.1..Just be sure to set a restore point to normal windows 8 just in case it messes up with 8.1

Other Thoughts: Good solid adapter and easy to use....just be prepared with a restore point if the upgrade to 8.1 causes head aches.
