2 out of 5 eggs$1.49 Generic USB N from a very popular auction website works better

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-N150PCe - Wireless N150 Wi-Fi Adapter - IEEE 802.11b / 11g / 11n, (1T1R), Up to 150 Mbps Data Rates, PCIe 2.0 Interface, WPS Supported

Pros: PCI-e x1 150Mbps Card for under $20. Comes with both normal and low-profile brackets. Low power consumption.

Was only about $12 at the time I purchased one and when my family member purchased one in Nov. 2014.

Cons: Loses connection to my router at least once every 20-30minutes depending on what I am doing at the time.

I've tested it in three different desktops sporting all different ranges of power supplies with the minimum rating being 425w and maximum being 750w. Same thing happens on all of them: starts out great at 5 bars, then drops to 1 or 2 after just a few minutes of the computer being booted. I am roughly 8 feet from the router.

It's not my router as I have a couple laptops that stay 100% connected and 5 bars within 30 feet at all times regardless of what I am doing with the internet.

I have a family member that also had the same issue with this Rosewill card but his purchase was November 2014. This tells me that there is an issue with the card itself.

It's not worth the RMA as it's a $10-ish disposable card.

Other Thoughts: As a quick solution for fixing some laptops, I ordered a couple generic USB Wireless N cards from China on very popular auction site for $1.49 total price. They work flawlessly and never drop the connection nor go below five bars.

Just saying that a $10 pci-e card should function much better than a $1.49 usb no-name card.

I don't understand all these positive reviews. My chances of having experienced two bad cards that were purchased 8 months apart and have the same issue is extremely high. I should be playing the lottery with these odds instead of spending the money on these cards.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little adapter.

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-N150PCe - Wireless N150 Wi-Fi Adapter - IEEE 802.11b / 11g / 11n, (1T1R), Up to 150 Mbps Data Rates, PCIe 2.0 Interface, WPS Supported

Pros: Works as intended
No noticeable loss in speeds over hardwired

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I may be one of the lucky ones, but this adapter worked fine once the drivers were installed.

I have it working fine on Windows 10, with no drops in speed. That being said, my wireless router is in the same room.

3 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-N150PCe - Wireless N150 Wi-Fi Adapter - IEEE 802.11b / 11g / 11n, (1T1R), Up to 150 Mbps Data Rates, PCIe 2.0 Interface, WPS Supported

Pros: It works fine on my Linux box. No problems connecting.

Cons: Connection is not very strong. Perhaps I have a lot of USB and other cables attached, but the wireless router, which I bought new in 2011, is less than 30 feet away. I snitched an Ethernet cable from work and have it draped through the doorway after all.

2 out of 5 eggsVery Meh

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-N150PCe - Wireless N150 Wi-Fi Adapter - IEEE 802.11b / 11g / 11n, (1T1R), Up to 150 Mbps Data Rates, PCIe 2.0 Interface, WPS Supported

Pros: It works, fairly cheap(Caught it on sale), PCIE

Cons: Provided drivers are trash for windows 7. Latest drivers on manufacturer's website also yield poor performance compared to the $3 no-name usb adapter i have.

Other Thoughts: as noted, the provided drivers and latest drivers on the Mfg.website are pretty bad. Using generic Atheros drivers for the AR9485 chipset yields substantially better transfer speeds on windows 7 than the manufacturer provided drivers.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks in Win8.1 with caveat

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-N150PCe - Wireless N150 Wi-Fi Adapter - IEEE 802.11b / 11g / 11n, (1T1R), Up to 150 Mbps Data Rates, PCIe 2.0 Interface, WPS Supported

Pros: Strong signal and stable connection in Win8.1 at low cost.

Cons: Very difficult to get it working in Win8.1

Other Thoughts: I tried 4 other PCIe wireless that were supposed to work that even had Win8.1 drivers via download, but this one is the first one I got to work. The manufacturer's tech support was no help and told me the adapter doesn't support Win8.1. I did fresh install of Win8.1, and wireless was automatically detected without need to install drivers or the Rosewill utility, and I only needed to enter network pass phrase. but I didn't want to reinstall all apps. I restored a backup image of the system and spent many hours trying things until I finally found my Win8.1 system won't recognize any wireless connection if Zonealarm is installed. With Zonealarm uninstalled wireless was automatically detected just like it is for the fresh install. Reinstalled Zonealarm and was dome. In my search for a solution I found many similar incidents with Win8.1 and a few for Win7, and I wonder if Zonealarm may have been the problem for a large number of those issues.

You'd think the maker would include this issue and solution in documentation sent with the product, or at least their tech support would have this important info. Would have given 5 eggs rating if not for enormous difficulty getting it to work in Win8.1.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat for browsing and downloading. Awful for online gaming.

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-N150PCe - Wireless N150 Wi-Fi Adapter - IEEE 802.11b / 11g / 11n, (1T1R), Up to 150 Mbps Data Rates, PCIe 2.0 Interface, WPS Supported

Pros: Great price. Download and browsing speeds are great, didn't had a problem with that.

Cons: Online gaming with this adapter is awful. My ping shoots up and down all the time when I'm playing games like Counter-Strike. It's such a shame for such a great adapter like this. But that's probably why it's worth 12 bucks.

4 out of 5 eggsIf you have Windows 7, don't bother with their driver. Otherwise, a good card

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-N150PCe - Wireless N150 Wi-Fi Adapter - IEEE 802.11b / 11g / 11n, (1T1R), Up to 150 Mbps Data Rates, PCIe 2.0 Interface, WPS Supported

Pros: -haven't had any problems with it.

Cons: -driver from rosewill website didn't work
-go here instead- https://www.atheros.cz/getfile.php
-not sure if thats the right site, i just copied it from
another review here

Other Thoughts: Before i got this, my internet would randomly fail and restart again (maybe like once or twice a week). it's still happens with this card, so i'm not going to take off an egg for that, since its probably my internet providers fault.

What i did take out an egg for was the driver they had online. I bought this for my new pc build, and i didnt include a disk drive, so i needed to install the driver via usb.

I'm running a Windows 7 home basic 64bit, and it seems others were having problems with the drivers for Windows 7.
I forgot which website i used to get the driver from, but some people have left it here. It might be this one, https://www.atheros.cz/getfile.php
if it's not that one just browse around the reviews here for the correct link

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-N150PCe - Wireless N150 Wi-Fi Adapter - IEEE 802.11b / 11g / 11n, (1T1R), Up to 150 Mbps Data Rates, PCIe 2.0 Interface, WPS Supported

Pros: This is a very nice and cheap wifi adapter. I expected to have to move a biit close to my router but that was not the case at all. My computer sits on the other side of the apartment (pretty much my pc is about 1 full apartment length away from the router and it still has pretty nice signal. works really well for my internet speed. Im very impressed overall with how fast it is compared with ethernet

Cons: Sometimes the internet will drop or it even wont detect my internet. This has happened once or twice but it shouldnt happen too often.

Other Thoughts: IF your internet speed is above 150mbs or even at that exactly or approaching it id recommmend something stronger( like 300mbs or higher.) mine is fairly slow at around 10mbs a second so.
