2 out of 5 eggsWindows 7 Driver Problem

Pros: I ordered two of these because of the cost. One went in my Linux box and it kindly took to it like a duck to water.

Cons: First time install the card worked, but then after restarting, it doesn't. Then I try to reinstall it and now it tells me to "reinsert" the card. Excuse me? This is not something you pull out and then put back in while it's still turned on!
This system I'm using it in is a Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit machine.

Other Thoughts: After restarting, Device Manager tells me this thing was an "Ethernet Controller". On the contrary, this is a Wireless Adapter, and your unsigned drivers just made this install that much worse! So unless you want one of these cards back, then give us an updated, signed driver!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Thank you very much for purchasing this unit.
We strive to provide the most reliable and highest quality products to our customers.

Please try the following.

1. Plug in your card to a PCI slot on your motherboard
2. Uninstall the wireless utility from Programs/Features (only if already installed)
3. Download the drivers from Rosewill website at www.rosewill.com
4. Extract the files to your desktop
5. Make sure device manager recognizes your new hardware under "Network Adapters" or "Other Devices" category.
6. Right-click on the device and select the "Update Drivers" option
7. Locate the path to the folder you extracted and select the correct driver based on the operating system you are installing it under.
8. Let Windows copy the necessary files over to your computer and make sure device manager recognizes your device.
9. Make sure there are not ? Or ! Marks under the device label
10. Test your device.

If none of the above work please contact our support team to assist you with warranty options.

1 out of 5 eggsNOT Win 8.1 compatible

Pros: + price
+ allows you to use a legacy PCI slot
+ supports b, g, and n standards
+ included driver disc supports XP, Vista and Win 7

Cons: - no Win 8 or 8.1 drivers on disc
- no Win 8 or 8.1 drivers on web
- Windows Update DOES NOT have drivers available for this card

Other Thoughts: Windows could not find drivers via Windows Update during initial installation. So I physically re-installed this card and tried again. No joy. So I went into the device manager, removed the network adapter, rebooted, Windows update could not find a driver. So I went back into the device manager, removed the network adapter, rescanned the system, Windows update could not find a driver. I manually ran a system wide Windows update, not new updates available.

This card is incompatible with Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit. I can't vouch for other versions of Win 8.1 or Win 8 but I wouldn't trust this card to a Win 8/8.1 system.

I gave this a 1 egg rating because numerous Newegg customer service replies to negative reviews clearly state that Win8 drivers are available via Windows update. Lies and falsehoods!

4 out of 5 eggsrange not great

Pros: Installation more or less flawless

Cons: signal strength weak at far side of house

Other Thoughts: Installed on Win XP on two computers and on Vista x86, Win7 x64 and Win8.1 x64. Also works on Linux Mint 17 and Xubuntu 14.04. The Win8.1 and Linux appeared to include a driver. I used the XP(32bit) Vista (32bit) and Win7(64bit) drivers on the Rosewill web site. I don't know yet if the signal strength displayed means the performance is going to be lower than the ethernet wired connection or not. Rogers didn't want to install free wired connections to all my computers with their $99 promotion which is why I purchased these two cards.

1 out of 5 eggsBetter Wireless Adapters For The Price

Pros: Barely works when the adapter decides to.

Cons: This adapter is very spotty. My router is 15 feet away from my PC and the wireless adapter still cuts in and out.
Running youtube is a hassle because the connection just sits there and doesn't want to run. I couldn't even play games online. My latency was averaging about 500. After continuous calls to my internet provider (since I live in a rural area and have a slow connection than those in the cities), I decided it HAD to be this adapter. I upgraded to a TRENDnet (TEW-726EC) wireless adapters and my problem was instantly solved.

2 out of 5 eggsRosewill RNX-N250PC2, Wireless N300 Wi-Fi Adapter

Pros: simple to mount, worked great(for 6 months)

Cons: drops connection or outright refuses to recognize any networks after working fine for 6 months

Other Thoughts: I have owned this card for 6 months, it is my only method of connecting to the internet in my house, have attempted to look into returning/replacing this card many times, the internet always drops out before I can find anything out. lost connection 3 times while typing this.
