2 out of 5 eggsFragile

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-N250UBE - Wireless N300 Wi-Fi Adapter - IEEE 802.11b / 11g / 11n, (2T2R), Up to 300 Mbps Data Rates, USB 2.0 Interface, Two 5 dBi High Power Detachable Antenna

Pros: It worked out of the box on Ubuntu without installing any drivers.

It allowed me to use the Internet when my laptop's WiFi antenna cords had been severed, which was great.

Cons: The unit is fragile due to its design.

The core is a WiFi card with two antenna ports and a USB connector. You plug the card's USB connector into the included USB stand to keep the antennas (as well as the WiFi card itself) upright. This means that the USB connector must handle the strain of any swaying, moving of the stand, antenna adjustments, and accidental knock-overs.

After a few months of use, the repeated stresses caused the WiFi card's case to come apart at the seams. Superglue fixed that.

After a few more months of use, the repeated stresses caused the USB connector to loosen from the WiFi card's circuit board. Jiggling it around until the connector contacted the board fixed that.

After a few more months, the USB connector was completely disconnected from the circuit board, and no amount of jiggling fixed it.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect, fast, and easy!

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-N250UBE - Wireless N300 Wi-Fi Adapter - IEEE 802.11b / 11g / 11n, (2T2R), Up to 300 Mbps Data Rates, USB 2.0 Interface, Two 5 dBi High Power Detachable Antenna

Pros: Everything. Double antennas make for great reception signal. I'm separated by two rooms from my WiFi box, and I still get 5 bars. Download speed is incredible, based on Century Link's 15 MB/s service, I'm getting a 14.76 Mb/s speed! Easy set-up, Windows 8.1. All I needed to do was plug in the USB and BOOM. Done. Definite must have for Gamers.

Cons: Absolutely none so far! Love everything about it.

Other Thoughts: Very good price for what you are getting, if you're still hesitating, don't. Make the purchase, you won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat For Plug and Play Linux

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-N250UBE - Wireless N300 Wi-Fi Adapter - IEEE 802.11b / 11g / 11n, (2T2R), Up to 300 Mbps Data Rates, USB 2.0 Interface, Two 5 dBi High Power Detachable Antenna

Pros: Plugs in and works with Linux Mint 17.1. Worked with older versions of Linux too.
I have used these to reach where other wireless won't. It works great.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: It is not fancy. It is what it is, a lower end USB wireless NIC. But it works well for wireless.

3 out of 5 eggsNot exactly that "powerful"

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-N250UBE - Wireless N300 Wi-Fi Adapter - IEEE 802.11b / 11g / 11n, (2T2R), Up to 300 Mbps Data Rates, USB 2.0 Interface, Two 5 dBi High Power Detachable Antenna

Pros: Reasons why I bought this wireless adapter:

-Two 5dBi high power antennas: Well, I figure that with the antennas I was gonna be able to get a strong signal on the 2nd floor of my town-hosue, but unfortunately the antennas don't really work that great, the signal was almost always weak and I was getting about 20-25% of the signal. Speeds are 50/50, I was getting 10Mbps-15Mbps, not really happy with those speeds.

-Price, at the time I paid only $12.99. I think it'll be a good idea to invest in a wireless AC adapter instead.

Cons: Antennas not strong enough.

5 out of 5 eggsBuying my 4th one

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-N250UBE - Wireless N300 Wi-Fi Adapter - IEEE 802.11b / 11g / 11n, (2T2R), Up to 300 Mbps Data Rates, USB 2.0 Interface, Two 5 dBi High Power Detachable Antenna

Pros: I bought 2 of them about 3 years ago. One is still rocking, one died because of abuse. I needed to replace the abused one so I'm buying 2 more. They are way big for portable use, but for stationary use with the included USB dock they rock. I do full Windows 7 backup with disk image to a server using these and it's not bad. My Comcast is 50MB and I get 59MB on speedtest.net using these. Until I get GB speeds for my internet I'll keep buying them. People see it and think you are doing satellite communications..:)?

Cons: It is big, It will totally ruin your stylish skinny macbook air look. But if you use the cradle it's just one wire. Not good for mobile usage, but rocks for stationary.

Other Thoughts: For stationary use, and you are not trying to hit GB speeds it rocks! I've used mostly DLink routers with them. 300N and 1200AC with no problems. Windoze OS only.

5 out of 5 eggsNice buy!

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-N250UBE - Wireless N300 Wi-Fi Adapter - IEEE 802.11b / 11g / 11n, (2T2R), Up to 300 Mbps Data Rates, USB 2.0 Interface, Two 5 dBi High Power Detachable Antenna

Pros: Great price, does a great job, looks nice and pretty no non-sense software. I get 5 bars and it didn't drop a connect while transferring over a 120 Gigabytes (Yes Bytes and not Bits) of data and during two netflix movies. Moving files Windows 8 showed 3.9 to 6.4 MB speeds. I'd prefer Wired at 1000Mb. But this is good.

Cons: First install was very different from D-Link. I hit the WPA button on the adapter and my rig crashed. But after it rebooted, it found the it and then immediately asked to push the button again and I did, then pushed the one on the Router and it connected in a seconds. before I could get back down stairs. As I mentioned above, it was at 5 bars and stayed there. Oh and I should have RTM!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent upgrade

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-N250UBE - Wireless N300 Wi-Fi Adapter - IEEE 802.11b / 11g / 11n, (2T2R), Up to 300 Mbps Data Rates, USB 2.0 Interface, Two 5 dBi High Power Detachable Antenna

Pros: Was on sale, easy driver install
Significantly boosted my speed upgrading from a t-link mini wireless usb adapter. roughly 25%~50% faster (this is partially because my PC is about 8 metres aways from router, so bigger atenna becomes more crucial)
More importantly i noticed my stability apparently increased, don't know the reason behind it
Lastly, I absolutely love the extend dock, this product is worthy every cent

Cons: i will figure something out

5 out of 5 eggsRNX-N250UBE

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-N250UBE - Wireless N300 Wi-Fi Adapter - IEEE 802.11b / 11g / 11n, (2T2R), Up to 300 Mbps Data Rates, USB 2.0 Interface, Two 5 dBi High Power Detachable Antenna

Pros: This is a very Power antenna. I tested this antenna both on Windows and on MacOSX laptop. Signal was at 90% strength at over 32 feet away from router. Although you have play around with the positioning of the antenna to maximize the signal. The drivers on the disk work for windows only though.

Cons: On the description here it does not say that it is compatible with MacOSX. But on the Rosewill website it says it is compatible and there are drivers for it. The only problem is that they do not work. You have to go to the Realtek website to download the software for it to work. I did not test every single driver on the rosewill website but if it doesn't work try to download the driver from the realtek website. Look for it under RTL8192CU which is the chipset on the antenna.

Other Thoughts: The drivers for MacOSX are compatible from OSX 10.4 through 10.8 on the Realtek website. I tried the 10.6 and worked.
