5 out of 5 eggsJust What I Needed

Pros: It does exactly what I needed it to do. It provides a land line internet connection to my two computers and switches automatically from one computer to the other.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Works really well, no problems, plenty of ports. Good quality product.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Don't want to blame it on the switch, cause I really don't know for sure, but my PC transfer speeds to a media player are a bit slow.

4 out of 5 eggsRosewill Works

Pros: Lets face everyone needs more network ports to add all the equipment we use these days. Why not go with a professional grade with a homeowner priced network switch. This Rosewill 8 port 10/100 switch is high quality and will give you years of reliable use. I recommend this to any person that needs expansion on their home/small business networks.

Cons: Its not gigabit don't know why not.

Other Thoughts: Best priced switch for your bang.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent Switch but has intermittent connection issues

Pros: Priced roughly at sub-$20 dollars with a 3-year warranty, Rosewill has the right idea for a network switch. The build quality is excellent; unmanaged, plug-in-play, full metal (doesn't feel like aluminum) and it is very sturdy. I've had this switch plugged in from day 1 and stress tested it several times. Even under stress, it doesn't heat up too bad. At worst, it feels warm to the touch. Performance is exactly what you would expect from a 10/100 switch. No more and more importantly, no less. Copying over 10GB worth of video files from computer to computer through this network switch using TeraCopy v2.27 produced consistent copy speeds of 9.3MB/s to 10MB/s and it took around 17 minutes. The LED activity lights per port aren't too bright and I'd say it is dimmer than a lot of other switches I've worked with.

LAN Speed Test (Lite) has reported the following results:

Writing (Upload)
Packet Length: 200 MB
Time to Complete: 17.70 sec
Mbps: 90.378

Reading (Download)
Packet Length: 200 MB
Time to Complete: 17.78 sec
Mbps: 89.964

Cons: During my stress testing, this switch has dropped connection to all plugged in devices connected to the switch occasionally. Normally, it fixes itself after a minute or two, only once did I have to power cycle the switch to get everything working again (changing ports did not help). I am not entirely sure what is causing the issue, but simple activities like Remote Desktop, TeraCopy, LAN Speed Test and web browsing (SpeedTest.net) have caused intermittent connection issues. This has never been a problem before, and upon reconnecting my test machine back to my other switch, none of the issues occurred.

For a 10/100 8-port switch, $25 dollars for retail price seems a little expensive. You can easily get a 5-port Gigabit switch for $30 and most computers (if not all of them) all come with Gigabit Ethernet adapters. While most people might not have an internet connection that can even come close to saturating 100Mbps, a Gigabit switch is still very beneficial for file transfers between computers and NAS environments.

Other Thoughts: For my test machine, the network adapter used is "Intel 82579V Gigabit Network Connection". My main router is an ASUS RT-N66U. All cables used were CAT6, and the entire network fabric is Gigabit, minus the Rosewill RFE-108.

Maybe I got a bad switch, I am not sure. It seems to work well at times and then not well in other instances.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes what it is intended

Pros: Design: It seems to be made of good quality, mostly metal and very minimal with plastic. Design is typical of a standard network switch, not fancy but with a minimalist design. It is also small and portable which is also typical of a common network switch. Very handy for lan parties.

Functionality: It does what it is meant to do. No hitches or problems with this device. I managed to get a few friends over and lan up 8 Xbox 360's to see if it worked well or not. Met my expectations thoroughly. The good thing about using this is being able to lan up to more than 4 devices to allow more people to play. You aren't restricted to the basic 4 ports that you have on a typical router. No network problems while lanning, no connection errors. As a second test I hooked up my Actiontec router provided by Verizon (Fios) to test the distribution of speed amongst the devices. My current ISP speed is 50 Mbps down and 25 Mbps up. Managed to pull the exact same numbers from my desktop and laptop while connected.

Price: Decently priced.

Cons: Does not support gigabit ethernet!!! Gigabit ethernet seems like a must these days but most consumers do not utilize the full potential. Gigabit ethernet is a must for me do to the fact that I have multiple computers networked together sharing files. Unfortunately this unit will not suffice for my needs. Having gigabit ethernet speeds is a must for fast file transfers.

Other Thoughts: Though this is a good device, handy and set at a decent price point, I cannot recommend this to power users looking to for maximum speed with regards to networking. It suffices for small file transfers, lan parties etc but not for heavy networking. Don't really know how the 802.az power saving will benefit me and it really does not seem to be a important selling point for this device.

5 out of 5 eggsRosewill RFS-108 Fast Ethernet Switch

Pros: Not bad at all. Small, convenient, lite, energy efficient, 8 port ethernet switch. I've been using it in the office environment 8 hours plus each day and have had no issues. 802.3az power saving. Everything else standard.

Cons: Its not gigabit.

Other Thoughts: Good switch for $15. Rosewill makes quality products.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as designed but......

Pros: The price is right, good quality, made of metal, pug and play, small size, easy to setup and use. This unit will work great to expand a internet connection, I hooked it up to my Time warner cable modem and instantly had extra ports to share my internet connection. This is actually the only reason I would buy one of these units is for internet connection sharing as the price for a faster switch is only a few dollars more. The unit is very advanced for the price, supporting power saving, full and half duplex, MDI/MDI-X auto crossover, plus much more check the details under the listing.

Cons: ...why would you spend $20 for this when for a few $ more you can get 10 times the speed with a gigabit unit? I am a Newegg Expert Reviewer so yes I did not bye it with my own money.

Other Thoughts: As I said before I was given this to review by Newegg as such I would only use this for slower uses such as internet sharing. I would bye a gigabit switch for everything else but this is a well built product and it delivers everything it promises and is very inexpensive anyone can afford this.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat With Time Warner or Uverse

Pros: Good quality, made of metal not plastic. Plug and play. Small size, fits right on top of my desk. Plugged right in the Time Warner modem and worked right away with no issues. I'm really starting to like Rosewill products. Price is great for what you get!

Cons: I wished I had gotten the 1GB one but thats my fault not Neweggs or Rosewills. I really cant think of any cons.

Other Thoughts: I actually bought this initially when I had AT&T Uverse. Theres only 4 plugs on the back of their 2Wire router and I needed more, so I thought let me try one of these. Worked right out of the box! I switched over to Time Warner cable, and I got one of their leased modems until I can get my own, and I hooked it up and worked right away with no issues at all. I'm pulling 50MB+ speed thru it from the internet on several computers, Tivos, and an HTPC and it never flinches. Transfers between computers and Tivo's fly like the wind too. I might upgrade to the faster one but I'm trying to think of a reason why, and I cant at the moment. I've bought several different Rosewill products in the past and I'm really starting to like them a lot. By their prices you might think its low quality, but its not at all. At the time I got this I paid a little bit less, but I'd definately pay current price for it or more now. When I got it I was kinda surprised at the quality and how good it is and how well it works. Does not even get warm to the touch either. I'm really happy with my purchase.
