4 out of 5 eggsI really like this router

Pros: I bought one of these 6 Months ago which I gave a positive review because it has been running ever since. It still runs and I dont have to reset it periodically as others here have had to. I think that problem is a lot to do with your modem and provider [I used to have this with dsl before I went cable with various routers].
Anyway I bought another one as a backup [I work from home so I need to recover fast if something goes wrong] and had a problem while trying to update the F/W to 1.03 - it just hung saying it was updating so I had to disconnect. Now everyone knows this is a worst case scenario and that the router is now probably "bricked" and it was, it was dead.
Now comes the part that turns this negative into a real positive, when I tried to access the now dead router [default IP] there pops up a boot recovery routine saying "Choose file for DSL router and press Start Upload once". I was able to choose the F/W file and press "Start Upload" button and it flashed the bricked router, all was good! Brilliant!!
I should also say I used a different laptop to do this as my PC had acted weird during the original flash.
I think this undocumented feature is a really good foresight from whoever wrote the F/W and all routers should have this.
I now love this router which supports 2 folks working from home [wired] and all the Roku and Samsung TV I can take over the 5GHz band at very fast speed.
The only downside I would say is the 2.4GHz band which seems to go slow sometimes and Im not sure why. I have 2 printers on that as well as a tablet and suspect the Samsung printer the most but cant prove it and dont really care enough to dig into it.

Cons: The 2.4 band can go slow for some reason but recovers on its own.....

5 out of 5 eggsNo Problems

Pros: The pro for me is that I hooked it up about a year ago and have never had an issue. I have seen many mixed reviews, but for me this router has and does what it is suppose to do, period.

Cons: The only con might be setting up the security, but that is always an irritating process for me.

Other Thoughts: None

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable - 2 Have Failed

Pros: None

Cons: Unreliable

Other Thoughts: The 1st died; the warranty replacement was DOA. Complete waste of time and money - if this works reliably for anyone, it's out of sheer luck - would have more fun gambling on slots!

1 out of 5 eggsReplacement Died in 1 Day

Pros: None

Cons: Unreliable

Other Thoughts: First died; the warranty replacement that was sent to me lasted for a few minutes and died - waste of money and time. If this worked reliably for anyone, it was because of luck - if you like to gamble, probably will have better odds and more fun playing slots.

4 out of 5 eggsGood product for the price.

Pros: The price was right, fast throughput, 5GHz support.

Cons: Can't block/filter specific MAC/IP addresses. Have to reboot this about every 2-3 weeks (not sure if it's our DSL).

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace an old Airlink N150 router that I thought was failing (problem was with our DSL). Has a lot of features except working as a repeater (most consumer routers don't have this) and MAC/IP blocking/filtering. Has a USB port to add as your own file server.

2 out of 5 eggsI'd keep looking...

Pros: 1) Great price for a simultaneous dual-band router
2) External antennas

Cons: 1) Some settings do not persist across resets
2) Flaky. Sometimes both wired and WIFI work. Sometimes only WIFI works. Sometimes only ethernet switch works.

Other Thoughts: Bought a little more than a year ago for my parents. They live some miles away and aren't tech-savvy so I needed something I could configure and forget. Everything worked well for about 6 months.

Their first issue happened after about 6 months. Their desktop machine (ethernet) could not resolve any hosts. Fired up wireshark and watched the DHCP negotiation. Sure enough, the router's DHCP ACK packet did not list any DNS addresses. This was confirmed by logging into the router and looking at the router state page. No DNS server. Connected the machine directly to the DSL modem and confirmed that the ISP's DHCP ACK contained DNS servers. So the problem was with the router. Now, mind you, their machine worked without incident for around 6 months so I have to assume (though I have no way to prove) that the router was delivering DNS info earlier. Anyway, hard-coded their ISP's DNS servers into their desktop's network config and all was well.

Second issue happened about a month later. This time, their Roku (WIFI) stopped streaming but their desktop (ethernet) continued to work. Bad Roku? Bad radio? Nope. Turns out the "enable radio" checkbox on the router's wireless configuration page was unchecked indicating that the radio was disabled. My parents insist that they didn't change any settings (they didn't even know how to log into the router). Re-enabled the radio and all was well.

Later that week, same thing happened. Hmm. On a whim, I re-enabled the radio and then briefly unplugged the router to simulate a power blip. Bingo. Radio was again disabled once the router booted. So this setting is no longer getting saved across resets (other settings like the WPA passphrase do persist across resets, however). So I showed my parents how to log in and enable the radio should this happen again.

The final issue was an odd one. Parents called to report that the Roku (WIFI) worked but the desktop (ethernet) no longer connected. Another DNS issue? Nope. DNS was still hard-coded from before. Reset the router and re-enabled the radio and ethernet started working again.

That was the last straw. I set the Rosewill router aside and replaced it with my old Cisco E2000 running Tomato.

It's too bad this Rosewill router is so flaky because it's a pretty nice router when it works. But the $20-$30 that you save versus other N600 routers isn't worth the hassle.
