3 out of 5 eggsIt is acceptable.

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-AC1200UBE, Dual Band Wireless AC1200 Wi-Fi Wi-Fi Adapter, IEEE 802.11AC IEEE802.11a/b/g/n, Up to 867Mbps(5.0GHz) + 300Mbps(2.4GHz) Wireless Data Rates, USB3.0 Interface

Pros: When working this card was working pretty fast. I was getting 200+ Mbps, which is right about what I was getting from a hard line.

This was easy to use and install.

The problems were easy to fix and just mostly irritating.

Cons: Right about half of the time the device would not work. Wouldn't even display on the computer that it was there. The fix for this was pretty easy. Just unplug and plug back in. This was very annoying but not a large issue.

Some times I would have to unplug it multiple times or have to restart the computer. Again, minor fixes but still irritating.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Well Enough - No Frills

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-AC1200UBE, Dual Band Wireless AC1200 Wi-Fi Wi-Fi Adapter, IEEE 802.11AC IEEE802.11a/b/g/n, Up to 867Mbps(5.0GHz) + 300Mbps(2.4GHz) Wireless Data Rates, USB3.0 Interface

Pros: dual band AC1200, USB3 and Win8 compatible
works on USB 2.0 for me as well

***note: I did not test the actual throughput, but my best 5ghz link speed was around 460Mbps. This was through 1 wall.

Cons: -utterly monopolizes USB port so that you cannot use any adjacent ports (common for dual band USB wireless adapters)
-no dongle included to deal with above issue
-because the adapter is so large and sticks out so much, it's liable to be damaged while attached to a notebook

Other Thoughts: I bought this for my mother's laptop, which she uses frequently throughout the day (usually on the sofa) and brings with her upstairs (desk in her study). I was nervous about the exposed stick from the getgo and warned her about treating it delicately and that she should just pull it out when not in use. I don't know what happened, but within a week, the thing was bent about 35-40 degrees at the connector housing. It still seems to function (so far), but these things are just not quite up to the task of everyday, mainstream laptop use; they're too darn big. I have an AC1200 D-Link, and it's almost as large. I'm more "caring" with my equipment than the average bear, and I don't move that particular laptop very much, and I always remove the stick, so that one is in mint condition.

TL;DR: Large form factors are not mainstream ready. Smaller housings (closer to that you'd find on wireless mice) are beginning to hit the market now. I'd look at them first, but this guy is inexpensive and does what it's supposed to do.

1 out of 5 eggsworks for a while.

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-AC1200UBE, Dual Band Wireless AC1200 Wi-Fi Wi-Fi Adapter, IEEE 802.11AC IEEE802.11a/b/g/n, Up to 867Mbps(5.0GHz) + 300Mbps(2.4GHz) Wireless Data Rates, USB3.0 Interface

Pros: cheep for the speed. Umm... It was fast as hell at first. But it began to feel groggy.

Cons: the antenna was not attached. and the build quality was not that good for the price. Don't get me wrong I paid for cheep. and I guess I got Cheep.

Other Thoughts: I have opened up the adapter to make sure it wasn't a lose plug. and what do you know. the plug for the antenna was not attached. way to go on the quality control Rosewill! But about a month later the adapter slowed down and began to feel groggy. I opened it up again and the antenna was still attached. so I put it aside for now. I really do like Rosewill products. But lately there quality has really gone down hill.

this is my previous review on this adapter.

Pros: This wireless adapter is by far the Best adapter I have Had. It has never disconnected on me and has a much beter connection then my last adapter.(Linksys Dual-Band wireless-N Network Adapter(WUSB600N))Not a good comparison though. I am about 50 feet away and have 6 walls between me and my linksys 1900ac router and still have4 bars or 85% connection.

Cons: The disk that came with it has a major scratch in it and doesnt work so I have to go to the Rosewill website to download the driver

Other Thoughts: The driver download sight is http://www.rosewill.com/products/2487/ProductDetail_Download.htm
Overall This is the only adapter I will currently suggest to anyone.

2 out of 5 eggsWorks great!...for a while

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-AC1200UBE, Dual Band Wireless AC1200 Wi-Fi Wi-Fi Adapter, IEEE 802.11AC IEEE802.11a/b/g/n, Up to 867Mbps(5.0GHz) + 300Mbps(2.4GHz) Wireless Data Rates, USB3.0 Interface

Pros: High speed, affordable, physical appearance

Cons: Poor longevity (less than a year)

Other Thoughts: I had occasional disconnects upon initial installation, but after a router reset it worked great! I bought it because it was cheap, and I wanted to make use of the speed increase from my new AC-compatible router. High speeds, rare drops.

For four months, it was smooth. But it didn't last. The the device would occasionally stop detecting all wireless signals for brief periods. I thought it was a router problem, but no other device in my home had any connection issues. Two weeks later, it began dropping every thirty minutes or so. I reset the router, unplugged and plugged the device, and would get a relatively stable connection. For a while.

For whatever reason, the drops became more frequent -- once every five minutes or so. Gaming became out of the question, and streaming videos--which had been effortless in the previous weeks--became a tedious chore.

I updated the driver through Rosewill, but it only seemed to make things worse. Connections rarely last longer than a couple minutes before dropping and resetting. Again, no other device in my home experiences an outage. Sometimes I'd have to unplug it and plug it back in just to get another few minutes of connection. I thought maybe it was my own lack of tech savvy, but I have no problems with my old Linksys wireless-n v1 USB fob from 2009 (which I'm using now to post this review). I'm therefore convinced the Rosewill device is faulty.

I understand that tech doesn't last forever, but 7 months is pretty short-lived even for a budget device. A shame -- it was great while it lasted!

Rosewill has a one-year warranty, and I just filed an RMA with them to get a replacement. I will adjust my review based on their response. Maybe the new one will last a while.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-AC1200UBE, Dual Band Wireless AC1200 Wi-Fi Wi-Fi Adapter, IEEE 802.11AC IEEE802.11a/b/g/n, Up to 867Mbps(5.0GHz) + 300Mbps(2.4GHz) Wireless Data Rates, USB3.0 Interface

Pros: Drivers easily install with the provided CD.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I get 16Mbps download speeds with this adapter, and it's the same speeds as my Sony VAIO vpcf237fx/b. ...pretty sad download speeds, but that's just my router's issue. I let a buddy borrow it for a couple of weeks and he's pushing 23-24Mbps.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate to a previous review

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-AC1200UBE, Dual Band Wireless AC1200 Wi-Fi Wi-Fi Adapter, IEEE 802.11AC IEEE802.11a/b/g/n, Up to 867Mbps(5.0GHz) + 300Mbps(2.4GHz) Wireless Data Rates, USB3.0 Interface

Pros: I had only tested this device on windows 7 machines. It was working great, I just thought it odd that I had to use the driver CD as opposed to windows auto-installing the device. Now I am using it on a Windows 8.1 machine. The WIFI is running just as great as before. Plus, Windows 8 was able to auto-install the drivers. I didn't need the CD this time.

Cons: It is kind of wide. Makes it hard to impossible to use adjacent USB ports. I'm considering getting a USB 3.0 extension wire.

Other Thoughts: I saw some reviews either asking about windows compatibility or knocking it. I can say that it works well on both 7 and 8, and I have been using this for over a month now. So if there were any driver issues at one time they seem to be cleaned up.

5 out of 5 eggsworks perfect on all w 8 platforms, +linux, +mac

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-AC1200UBE, Dual Band Wireless AC1200 Wi-Fi Wi-Fi Adapter, IEEE 802.11AC IEEE802.11a/b/g/n, Up to 867Mbps(5.0GHz) + 300Mbps(2.4GHz) Wireless Data Rates, USB3.0 Interface

Pros: RTL8812au chipset. The drivers are all over the place, and have been from months. Edimax and Engenius have all the mac drivers.

Edimax has all the windows mac, and linux drivers.

RealTek has them also, but unless you are a tech level 6 or higher , you wont find them.

Cons: tech level pinocchios

Other Thoughts: working great on w 8.1 x64 pro

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well on OS X 10.9, but needs newer driver

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-AC1200UBE, Dual Band Wireless AC1200 Wi-Fi Wi-Fi Adapter, IEEE 802.11AC IEEE802.11a/b/g/n, Up to 867Mbps(5.0GHz) + 300Mbps(2.4GHz) Wireless Data Rates, USB3.0 Interface

Pros: This unit works well. About 15 feet from an Apple Airport Time Capsule, I get 867MBps with the included Wireless-AC Network Utility. Couldn't ask for better with a network card. Gives way better performance than the built in Airport Extreme.

Cons: * Had to get the 802.11AC OS X 10.9 driver for the Edimax EW-7822UAC to make this work. The latest one on the Rosewill support site will not install in 10.9 (it's from Fall 2013.) The Edimax OS X driver version for the
EW-7822UAC (same chipset, same adapter, just different color) is from January 2014.
* This is a wide adapter. Make sure you put it in a USB hub. It'll block two spots easily on a laptop or desktop.
* Wish they (RealTek) could somehow integrate this with the Airport network status widget at the top of the screen instead of a stand alone Wireless AC Network Utility program.

Other Thoughts: Removed one egg from the review for Rosewill not having an updated RealTek driver on their site and me having to hunt down a more recent version.

5 out of 5 eggsWorking great

This review is from: Rosewill RNX-AC1200UBE, Dual Band Wireless AC1200 Wi-Fi Wi-Fi Adapter, IEEE 802.11AC IEEE802.11a/b/g/n, Up to 867Mbps(5.0GHz) + 300Mbps(2.4GHz) Wireless Data Rates, USB3.0 Interface

Pros: I just wanted to pop in real quick and give this device the 5 eggs it deserves. I'm getting great connection speeds thanks to USB 3.0. No network drops. No problems. And I'm very surprised with the range.

Cons: There really isn't any issues with this device. Yes, the driver CD was a bit off. The autorun failed, so I had to go into the CD with windows explorer, navigate to the Windows driver folder, and manually launch the installer. But that doesn't deserve docking an egg.

Other Thoughts: I'm running on Windows 7. I can't say anything for windows 8.
