4 out of 5 eggsWorks alright with the usual once in a while reboot

This review is from: EnGenius ERB9250 IEEE802.11b/g/n Wireless-N300 Smart Repeater

Pros: - great deal at ~$20
- can be a completely wireless access point/repeater or a wireless Ethernet extender (gives you an Ethernet port somewhere else away from your router/hub) or you can use an Ethernet cable to extend your wireless coverage (most stable)
- Wireless protected setup is fast and convenient
- Smallish size

Cons: - like most lower price/budget/non-main stream wireless routers/modems/hubs, it needs a restart once in a while. Not too big a deal, but can get annoying if it's mounted somewhere difficult to access (quick power adapter pull will have to do)
- Smallish size, could be smaller still like some that extend slightly from a wall plug adapter

Other Thoughts: Works great to bring Wi-Fi to the other corner of a larger house.

1 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: EnGenius ERB9250 IEEE802.11b/g/n Wireless-N300 Smart Repeater

Pros: Low Price

Cons: Did not work, I have returned it.

Other Thoughts: Would not stay connected to the wireless router for more that 3 minutes, when only 3 feet from the router and using the WPS button to program it, and then manually programming it. I have asked and received an RMA, and bought a Amped Wireless SR1000.

1 out of 5 eggsEnGenius ERB9250

This review is from: EnGenius ERB9250 IEEE802.11b/g/n Wireless-N300 Smart Repeater

Pros: None that I can think of.

Cons: Doesn't work, orange light will only stay on for about 3 minutes then goes off, Wireless modem/router device list indicates it is connected, repeater software states it connected successfully, but it's not repeating anything. I set it up with WPS and manually.

3 out of 5 eggsengenius repeater

This review is from: EnGenius ERB9250 IEEE802.11b/g/n Wireless-N300 Smart Repeater

Pros: Unfortunately, I am unable to use this item. And can not fairly rate it. It is not compatible with the technology I intended to use it with.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: It did connect faster than the others I tried and stronger.
although it dropped out of service just as fast.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes what it is supposed to

This review is from: EnGenius ERB9250 IEEE802.11b/g/n Wireless-N300 Smart Repeater

Pros: Small case with a load of LEDs on the top of the case. The quick setup was extremely easy, my 12 year old Grandson was able to set it up by himself and he's no tech wiz. Two detachable antennae, power socket, recessed reset switch and a single RJ45 port make up the rear panel of this little device. The wall wart is small and does not occupy more outlets than it needs to on a power strip! Throughput is good but limited obviously by the Wi-Fi. With wireless n I was getting circa 8 Mbps on my laptop via this item, see cons and other thoughts about this.

Cons: Using something like this comes at a price, and the price is that your overall throughput on your wireless network will be affected. If you have lots of wireless clients then this will become apparent fairly quickly, at last count I have 12 (where did they all come from??). Also this device needs to be put into an area that has a relatively good signal which it can then rebroadcast, this tends to cut down the range that a user will think they can possibly get from one of these. I know using ERB9250 to stream video, severely affected my Fire Stick and Chromecasts ability to do the same simultaneously, but then Wi-Fi does have a limited bandwidth!

Other Thoughts: As a quick fix, and the simple setup is very quick, this is a good solution to a dead spot or somewhere that is just out of range for your Wi-Fi network, for heavy bandwidth applications it may be a bit too much of a limiting device. I’ve just changed my home environment to a wireless ac setup and I did notice the effect of this device on the network as a whole. As to its design it is a bit out of step with EnGenius’s other wireless products i.e. it’s not a white hockey puck, but it is functional but not what I would call attractive. Overall 4 eggs, not for any real defects but just because it’s not WOW.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well, great customer service!

This review is from: EnGenius ERB9250 IEEE802.11b/g/n Wireless-N300 Smart Repeater

Pros: Works well, strong signal.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I received a blu-ray player with wifi for Christmas, so was eager to watch Netflix, etc.. Unfortunately, my wireless router is located about as far as possible from my TV and blu-ray player, so I was getting a signal between 10% and 15%, which basically makes watching streaming programs impossible, so I bought this repeater. Initally, it would link to my router, but would not hold the signal. I contacted technical support for help and a technician named Mike figured out the problem and walked me through the fix. I can't say enough about his help and the quick response to my questions.

5 out of 5 eggsNo Problems with Install

This review is from: EnGenius ERB9250 IEEE802.11b/g/n Wireless-N300 Smart Repeater

Pros: Does what I bought it for and had no problems with installation, saving the battery life on my phone is what counts.

Cons: The instructions leave a lot to be desired, but the WPS button took care of that issue.

2 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: EnGenius ERB9250 IEEE802.11b/g/n Wireless-N300 Smart Repeater

Pros: easy setup

Cons: I have had trouble with this unit consistently sending out a signal. More often that not my devices pick up my wireless router instead and receive a very weak signal. When this unit it working properly I can stream Netflix continuously, but more often than not my tv does not pick up the repeater and makes for a very frustrating experience.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Jonathan A.,

We appreciate your time in posting your comments and feedback.

We are sorry to hear about your experience. Repeaters need very good wireless signal from the main wireless router to work properly. Perhaps some adjustment with the setup will resolve your issue.

Please allow us to do some troubleshooting with you. You may reach us through our number at 1-888-735-7888 (Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm PDT) or e-mail us at support@engeniustech.com

Thank you for your patience and we look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Mike

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate to Previous Review

This review is from: EnGenius ERB9250 IEEE802.11b/g/n Wireless-N300 Smart Repeater

Pros: This has now been up and running for almost a month without a single disconnect. Maybe I got the good one off the assembly line.

Cons: None at all.

Other Thoughts: I can't explain the problems others have had, except for maybe some compatibility with other hardware?

1 out of 5 eggsGave me headaches

This review is from: EnGenius ERB9250 IEEE802.11b/g/n Wireless-N300 Smart Repeater

Pros: Worked fine for about an hour or so...

Cons: Then everyone on wireless could either connect and not get an internet connection or they simply couldn't connect at all. Created a lot of chaos until I realized that it had something to do with the ERB9250. The wireless on it was pretty powerful because people that were much closer to our Aerohive access point were having trouble as well. Once I disconnected the repeater, everyone was back online in less than a minute.

Other Thoughts: I bought two of these for our practices to help eliminate dead zones in our wireless coverage.
