ESR-9850 300Mbps Wireless N Gigabit Router was designed with range and speed in mind. With expanded bandwidth, multiple users can wirelessly go online, make large file transfers, print to networked printers, and stream multimedia – at the same time.

Gigabit switches are for delivering optimal throughput speed and ample bandwidth for other Ethernet-capable devices such as game consoles, HDTVs, VoIP, phones, Blu-ray players, set top boxes, or DVRs.

With QoS technology, it essentially avoids lags for hardcore gamers while playing online game. The ESR9850 also supports all the standard WPA / WPA2 security features contained in routers today. Multiple guest SSIDs, advanced SPI firewall, Denial of Service (DoS) attack blocking, MAC and URL filtering, etc. further secure your network connections.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent Value

Pros: Get's the job done.

Cons: Seems to cut out if left on for more than a few days. We have gotten in to the habit of unplugging it at night when we aren't using it anyways. Just a minor inconvienience.

5 out of 5 eggs3 Years & 6 months later...

Pros: Still working flawlessly...No hangs, reboots, etc. Price/Performance.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: If you can find a more reliable, set and forget Wireless Router at this price point, buy it.

5 out of 5 eggsPleased

Pros: 1. Has never ((needed)) a reset.
2. Has an effective broadcast range of over 160ft (this is in a wifi-heavy apartment complex).
3. Doesn't get as hot under load as most competing routers.
4. Thorough and feature filled web lobby.
5. Easily hits and sustains 300Mbps speeds for at least an hour (as long as I've tested it) without failing or needing a reset.

Cons: My only complaint is the router color. I can't be the only one that prefers black or gray.

Other Thoughts: I've tried numerous routers by competitors at a range of price points, and this one has easily been the best one. Almost 3 Years of flawless service. Worth every penny.

5 out of 5 eggsI have now purchased 2 of these... Great!

Pros: Easy to setup and is definitely a "set it and forget it" product. I have not touched either of these since they were put in. Also run guest wireless on one which seems to be working without issue as well.

Cons: None so far

5 out of 5 eggsSimple & Reliable router

Pros: My friend recommend this particular router for a job that I was doing. I had placed the order and received the router within 3-5 days during the Christmas season. Great! Installation was very simple. After fixing the home phone wiring mess, the router was unwrapped and working within about 10-15 minutes. I took my smaller Laptop outside into there back yard and still registered 3 out of 4 on the strength bar meter. This was about 50 feet outside there house. So far no problems.

Cons: There are no cons as of today with this router.

Other Thoughts: My friend had used this exact router along with a few repeaters in a machine shop/ office environment about 4 years ago and still no problems there either.

5 out of 5 eggsGood value, good performance

Pros: Great performance for wired connections, and decent wireless performance.

Cons: Minor stuff: This product is now on the end-of-life list at EnGenius (the V2 version is current). This router responds to pings even if told not to.

Other Thoughts: This router got a good review due to great price/performance at SmallNetBuilder, and my experience matches: Excellent wired performance, handles LOTS of connections well with 3x the net wired throughput of my old router. The wireless performance seems about the same as my previous, five-year-old router, which is fine, I mainly have a wired home network.

I would have liked to have known that this model is end-of-lifed, but it's still a good deal.

I debated dropping an egg from the rating due to the router returning pings, but that's pretty minor as security problems go.

5 out of 5 eggsMy GoTo Router

Pros: Setup - Price - Speed

Cons: None as of yet

Other Thoughts: Android Issue - I had a connection issue and changed security to WPA(TKIP) on a separate SSID and this resolved all problems. WPA2(AES) and WPA2 Mixed modes seem to have an issue but for the price this is an excellent router, I did not buy it to use my cellular phone on.

If you don't have at least an associates degree in IT and can do programming you are NOT tech level 5!!

3 out of 5 eggsgood router and wap but not much of a bridge

Pros: Good router, wireless access point and wireless repeater. Easy to use web interface

Cons: no security when used as a bridge, need to have a static ip on your computer when configuring as a repeater

Other Thoughts: I though to use this as a wireless bridge in its repeater mode but dhcp and firewall were disabled so I couldn't set up a secure subnet.

2 out of 5 eggsCrashed in less than 24 Hours

Pros: Lots of options and good range.

Cons: Its been running for less than 24 hours and I suddenly lost connections to all computers. LAN and Wireless connections to the router almost like it crashed or rebooted. About 30-60 seconds it came back and all was fine. If this continues I am going to have to RMA.

Other Thoughts: I thought I was getting a nice upgrade from my Netgear N300 which keeps crashing once a week, brand new piece of junk. Does anyone make a reliable router now days?

I have surge protection, APC Backups XS 1500 so it can't be dirty power.

3 out of 5 eggsNot as great as I thought it was going to be

Pros: * Easy to setup
* Allowed three Xbox 360s to negotiate a proper NAT setup for Halo.
* Separate networks, which keeps the kids off the network where my "important" data is, and I can now allow guests on my network very easily.

Cons: * Constantly restarted. Thankfully I found on their forums a few people having the same issue. The cause of the issue was android devices of which I had three in the house. The fix was beta firmware.

* The current problem occurs only when I have an IPSec VPN opened through the router. When that happens, the other devices are affected. For example, there is significant delays in gaming on the Xboxes while I"m VPN'd in. As soon as I drop the VPN, the other device resume proper operation.

Other Thoughts: I had bought this router after four friends had bought it, and recommended it. Afterward, once I started having issues, I found that they do not do anywhere near as much with their router as we do here.

Manufacturer Response:

Please contact our customer support at 888-735-7888 ext. 516 if the restart keeps happening. Thank you.
