1 out of 5 eggsWon't last - look for something else

Pros: Good prices, somewhat easy setup, good mounting hardware

Cons: Don't last long. Bought 5 units and initial setup worked fine. Only one of the units is actually outside in the weather. All are grounded and on UPS. Three units have failed within 5 months. Engenius tech support is RMA'ing the units but how can I depend on these units. Tech support said the power supplies might be the problem and is sending out new ones this time. Power supplies are considered accessories and only have a 90 day warranty.

Other Thoughts: Units came highly reviewed but they have been a big disappointment.
Three out of five failures.

1 out of 5 eggsTwo of my Five units failed out of box

Pros: Well built, good case, easy to install. Great 802.11a range with external antenna and fairly stable when working.

Cons: Two of my five units were out of box failures on Radio 1 (the 802.11a radio).

I set up one unit as a main access point broadcasting 802.11a as a backhaul on Radio 1 and then set up one unit to act as a repeater with the 11a backhaul on Radio 1 and a local 11g network on Radio 2. I backed up the repeater configuration and deployed it to my other three units, changing addresses and names when necessary to prevent conflicts. Immediately two of the units with the cloned configuration had no connection on Radio 1 and wouldn't recognize 802.11a as an option. After resetting the units and setting them up manually I experienced the same issue. There was no ability to correct this and I have not been able to get either Newegg or EnGenius support to respond to my request for an RMA.

Other Thoughts: The interface is clunky as others have described and documentation is practically useless but configuring these units was fairly easy as long as you set them up on your bench before deploying them in the field. I'd probably rate it a solid 4 eggs if it weren't for the out of box failures and difficulties getting support.

It is worth noting that the three units I was able to successfully deploy have been operating trouble-free since the beginning of the year and all of them are installed outside.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Product!

Pros: Weather-proof, 2.4 or 5ghz antenna connectors, multiple uses, POE, great range, stable.

Cons: The interface for this is clunky. Not worth losing an egg for - but still...

Other Thoughts: I have a few of these units bringing in signal to some of our steel out buildings. We used outdoor antennas and mounted the units inside. This works great as a repeater and excellent as a bridge.

3 out of 5 eggsAntenna not included

Pros: Water proof, hi power

Allows you to connect to a current wireless network and rebroadcast it as a different wireless SSID with different security settings.

Cons: From EnGenius website:

Note: Antenna for radio 1 is not included with the EOR7550. You will need to purchase an antenna with an N type male connector. Radio 2 has a built in antenna that only operates at the 2.4GHz

Annoyingly the antenna Engenius sells EAG-2408 has an N-Type Female and this repeater has an N-Type Female so to connect them you will need a N-Male to N-Male Adapter. As far as I can tell Newegg does not sell an N-Male to N-Male adapter.

Other Thoughts: Default IP address:
user: admin
password: admin

This device is made to be a repeater. Radio1 is a client bridge A/B/G radio that connect to the wireless SSID of your current network and uses the external antenna connectors.

Radio2 is B/G/N and uses the internal panel antenna and can only be used as an access point.

I have used the less expensive EOA3630 as a repeater. The EOA3630 takes the same SSID and repeats it as the same SSID with no choice in changing it because of it's single radio.

If you need an access point buy the EOA3630. If you need a basic repeater I'd also recommend the EOA3630 for it's ease of use and included antenna.

If you need a high end repeater that is difficult to find an antenna for the client bridge buy the EOR7550.

2 out of 5 eggsGet a radio tech

Pros: It does act as a two radio repeater to extend a wireless network.

Cons: The package DOES NOT include the external antenna necessary for radio #1 to work.

Other Thoughts: If you're not a radio tech you're not going to know the ins and outs of this without getting tech support on the phone. I did and they stated point blank that radio #1 does not have a built in antenna, nor is one included in the package.

3 out of 5 eggsGood Product but...

Pros: I bought this to extend my wireless network. It is well made and has decent power. It seems that it will do everything I need. Hardware included is excellent.

Cons: Can not find antennae as I have seen in pictures.
Connectors only lead to using long cabling, 30' in length.
Instructions are not that clear nor user friendly. The minus two eggs is for the lack of documentation, user interface and features to set-up the hardware.
Could have done a better job on how you configure it. I had to change my network since I did not use the standard IP addressing.

3 out of 5 eggsI would Buy Again

Pros: Dual Radio does as advertised

Cons: This is my 2nd one I have the previous version before this one and now I got this EOR7550 I would by it again BUT not the VER 1 Firmware... Kinda flakey to get up and going but once established it is reliable.

4 out of 5 eggsexcellent hardware

Pros: Excellent hardware, commercial stainless screws, bracket, clamps. POE injector included. Proper outdoor grounding equipment with separate ground for POE injector. Reliability is outstanding, fast, reliable.

Cons: The engineer who thought it would be a good idea to force a switch to when changed to AP mode should be punched in the nose. IP address are changed from .1 to .2 based on the mode the unit is in. This can complicate setup. Set up locally and then install in final place once it's working and save trips to the roof. No dd-wrt support.

Other Thoughts: An excellent 'commercial grade' 5ghz bridge solution out there currently, but also the best dual-radio AP/router available for the money. Currently using two of these devices with a 5.1-5.8 ghz patch antennas from l-com and r-shack antenna mast/hardware. Excellent ethernet bridge through a small forest ~1000ft, 32 mbit throughput using patch antennas (HG5158-23P, CA-NMNMH005 )

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent piece of equipment

Pros: -Easy outdoor mounting
-Outstanding signal strength from internal antennas
-Superior signal strength to anything in it's class when used with a good external antenna
-Configurable to almost any application

Cons: My one and only knock would be that it's 10/100 ethernet instead of gigabit. I use 802.11n to bridge two networks about 500 feet apart and can reliably link up between 212 and 265 Mbps. So that means the 10/100 is the bottleneck in the connection.

Other Thoughts: Someone gave this product one star because doesn't sell N-Type antennas. Just goes to show you cannot trust user reviews.
