3 out of 5 eggsGreat product, indifferent support, Engrish documentation

Pros: Inexpensive, pretty reliable once they are finally tweaked, pretty good range. Have a lot of potential, DD-WRT capable if you are game for it.

Cons: Poor documentation, not even good for a general reference; you do better Googling info from others. A little fiddly to get everything right; you have to have a lot of patience and desire to make them work. Don't even bother to call tech support; if you ever get to a human, they usually pass you to voice mail--you are better off trying to email them. Probably a language thing. A little fragile for outdoor use, shows weathering/sun discoloration pretty quickly, but that is just cosmetics.

Other Thoughts: I've put up about a half dozen pairs of these (2610, 2611, 5610, 5611) to provide wireless bridging between buildings. Longest distance actually in use is about a quarter mile, most less than 200 yds. I've tested the 5610s up to 3.4 miles, but the data rate was around 1 Mbps or less. 30 Km?...right...take another toke. For a simple AP, not too bad, but when you start trying to do more complicated stuff, it gets more interesting trying to dig out the information on how to "make" it work. Example: I took a pair of 2611Ps, set them up in WDS bridge mode, and got VLAN/802.1q to work across the bridge for a computer and VOIP phone at a remote building. Tried the same thing with a pair of 5611Ps, and it was no go. Tried to work with their tech support and they told me that what I did was impossible and did not happen, I did NOT get VLAN tagging to work over WDS (even though it worked just fine for a year, till a nearby lightning strike took out one AP). A little frustrating.

1 out of 5 eggstry something else

Pros: nice unit packing well and good design

Cons: Extremely poor documentation, examples and explanations
no external antenna if you want to use 2.4ghz you must purchase one separately (in the fine print). did not connect at the range projected. 600ft.

Other Thoughts: revamp the user interface, make the manual more usable instead of in broken English. specify connection ranges, heights and distances you would have a good product.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for a building to building link

Pros: Worked good, does what it is supposed to do. Directional antenna so no extra interference. Also the 802.11a frequency is less used so no overcrowding or extra interference from other ap's and traffic either.

Cons: Some of the settings are a pain and when I changed a range setting I had to reset and set everything else up all over again. There is no printed manual so prepare to read everything on the computer. Also many of the settings do not have a description so prepare to look things up online to see what it does.

Other Thoughts: Don't think of this as an A/P for regular computers. It is mainly for a point to point link or point to multipoint link between like clients i.e 4 locations within 30 degrees of the access point all using the same equipment. I made a connection between two of these devices at about 3/4 of a mile. Signal was perfect and stable. Didn't even loose a connection during a horrendous storm.

Also 802.11A is not good for laptops and the like because the signal is attenuated more than 802.11B/G devices but it has an advantage in links between buildings and other things longer range 1/2 mile plus in the fact that it is not as heavily used so you will pick up less in band interference from other 802.11A devices. If you need 2.4ghz then get EnGenius ENH200 or EOC2611P.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Nice, Affordable AP's

Pros: Cheap, Easy to configure, Great features.
Attractive, weathertight case.
Many configuration options.

Cons: Documentation could use some work and it comes on a mini-cd which I can't use in my macbook.

Other Thoughts: Using these in a point to multipoint configuration with 5.8GHz. Rock solid connections, relatively easy to point. We mounted them using satellite dish mounting arms which makes for a nice application.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat product, but documentation is lacking

Pros: I'm using this to extend a network across the street for a client- 2 buildings about 300 feet apart. Set one up as an access point and the other as a client bridge and it works flawlessly. Running an internet connection and VoIP phone system on it with no problems at all. Very stable- have only had to restart it once in the past year. The 5GHz signal is really strong- no need for an additional antenna.

Cons: Documentation. I had to experiment a bit before finding out that you need to configure one as an access point and the other as a client bridge for best performance. EnGenius could sell more of these if they provided clearer documentation so it wouldn't be quite so daunting for first time users.

5 out of 5 eggsVery easy to configure and install

Pros: Point to point configuration for sharing internet between adjacent properties is very simple. Using the built in 5 GHz internal antenna was a great way to not interfere with existing 802.11 access points. Alignment at 1000 ft was not critical. Great performance.

Cons: Found that it was required to power cycle devices to ensure programming changes took effect.

4 out of 5 eggsNeeds a better GUI and Manual

Pros: Nice enclosure, great of outdoor mounting. Has a ton of options for setup. Love that it is POE. Has external antenna hookups for 2.4ghz or 5ghz.

Cons: The manual is laughable, online resources are worse. The GUI does not explain its own settings well at all. The manual tries to explain the different options, but does a very poor job of it, definitly a translated to english manual as well.

Other Thoughts: I have 4 of these, set up as a wireless backhaul, with a central omni-directional point. They HAVE to be set up in WDS mode (ALL of them) if your gateway is not at the central node. The "WDS cllient" option when set up as a "Client Bridge" does nother besides not allow connection to the remote AP. Overall I really like the product, the speed is great, but the setup was a real hassle.

5 out of 5 eggsEngenuis Rocks (If you pay attention)

Pros: Inexpensive, Durable, High Power, Easy to install, include POE adapter, offers A/B and G. Super easy to configure.

Cons: No 2.4 GHZ Antenna included. This model is designed to be used in a 5GHZ backhaul solution. If can work as a 2.4GHZ ap if you add an atenna. Get the 2611P if you want a great indoor/outdoor 600mW B/G access point

Other Thoughts: Wish i had read the other reviews more completly. Anywho, i ordered up some 2611's to replace the 5611's i cant use.

5 out of 5 eggsEnGenuis Rocks

Pros: Inexpensive, Durable, High Power, Easy to install, include POE adapter, offers A/B and G. Super easy to configure.

Cons: Not enough in stock. Needed two, had to order just one.

Other Thoughts: I read the other reviews and figured I'd post this one to help others make a clear decision. Other reviews I read seemed to not bring justice to the product. There is not better AP / Bridge I have found at this price anywhere. The True value in still having a radios is for back haul links, that’s why we use them. Keeps us out of the range of traditional stuff at 2.4 GHz. Using B/G and 2.4Ghz for client access is the norm and this product does it well. As far as the comment about not being able to use the internal antenna with the b&g radio that I read, not so sure that’s accurate. I run these all the time and have not issues nor need any to add other antennas. Simply put, best radios at the best price I have ever used.
