1 out of 5 eggsBuy Something Else

Pros: When it worked it worked well.

Cons: WAN port failed, so I changed it to repeater mode to send my Cable Internet signal wirelessly to my wired Home Office. After two weeks the LAN ports failed also. Ended up having to run an Ethernet cable.

Other Thoughts: I've purchased other EnGenius products, especially their corporate Wireless Access Points and they work well. Based on the other reviews, I think it's this specific product that has an issue.

2 out of 5 eggsEnGenius Admin Console Access Flakey

Pros: Usually works in a 2000 sq ft residential house.

Cons: Unable to open router admin console when connected via cable.

Was able to open admin console via wireless connection but even that is inconsistent. In one instance, I was able to log in but as soon as I clicked a tab to go to another admin page, I lost the connection and was not able to reconnect. I've never had that problem with Linksuck, DD-WRT, Netgear, others.

I even tried their Wizard and it couldn't reach their router.

Other Thoughts: Signed up for the EnGenius forum at You have to wait for a moderator to approve you, which for a normal vendor would be immediate. Something is off about this company.

I wouldn't buy another EnGenius product.

[Gave myself average tech knowledge due my network ability although overall I would be higher.]

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: worked great when it worked for just one year

Cons: That was it. It worked for one year and then Wi Fi band width dropped right out of the bottom. LAN Band width cut in half. I have 100Mbps connection with my ISP. LAN side dropped to 56Mbps and Wi-Fi dropped to 15Mbps download and 2.5 upload. do NOT buy this product. it fails right after the warrenty does. I will NOT buy any Engenius products again. matter of fact we have been getting some really bad JUNK from newegg as of late.

1 out of 5 eggsHighly Disappointed

Pros: Basic router functionality worked really well for several months.

Cons: I bought this router based off of some of the good reviews that I had seen. Apparently the bad ones, and truthful for that matter hadn't made it out here yet by then. And truth be told, just like some others experienced, I was very happy with this product for a several months. Then, all of sudden the router would drop connections and when I would log in to the web admin console to poke around I would find that the ISP IP address wasn't been registered. I tried the refresh feature and that wouldn't work either. At first I thought this was a problem with the ISP. But then I would unplug the EVR100 and reconnect my old Linksys router and that would work just fine. I had switched to the EVR100 because I wanted wider Wifi coverage, which the EVR100 was "supposedly" good for. But alas! To say, I am DISAPPOINTED with this product would be to say the least. I barely used this product for 3 months before it started dropping connections and losing IP addresses. I have since unplugged it and contuning to manage with my old Linksys router, which by the way has been very reliable now for over 5 years. My plan now is to buy a cheap bridge to connect the Linksys router to my high powered repeater/antenna that I had previous connected to the removable antennas on the EVR100. Needless to say this is a fancy product that comes in a fancy box that doesn't do the job. Stay away!!

Other Thoughts: Just very disappointed. In this day and age we need products that enhance a customer's experience. This product did the opposite for me. I now have a $119 product just hanging in my home office wall for decoration. I don't consider that a good customer experience. What happened?

1 out of 5 eggsDon't bother!

Pros: Lots of functionality

Cons: Stopped being able to get an IP address from my ISP intermittently after about 6 months. As of this week, completely unable to secure an IP address. A brick in 8 months? Argh!

2 out of 5 eggsWireless works... not so sure about the VPN

Pros: As other have stated, and what primarily appears to have produced the good reviews is the good wireless and basic router functionality

Cons: VPN, inbound which is really the only reason I bought this unit opposed to other manufacturers. I too have a strong knowledge in setting up VPNs, runnin them to my Firebox 500e in the office. However I wanted this one so I could VPN into my house network. No go. I can't get the wizard or even manual settings to turn blue.. always red. I'm using the units defaults for IPs etc. My home connection is through COX cable (Motorola modem, dynamic external interface, although it doesn't matter if I static the IP for testing) straight to the EVR100, nothing fancy, no other subnets or routers.

Other Thoughts: I could live without name resolution on the VPN, but I'm not even getting that far. Wish there was more information on the unit. Manufatur's forum responses are sporadic and not really helpfull

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsWorth the $

Pros: So it costs a bit more than your average wireless router; fine. This device is absolutely worth it -- clean interface, easy to set up, good reliability. Good looking, too!

Cons: Unimportant for many folks (otherwise I'd rate 4-eggs): can't push dd-wrt onto this box \=

1 out of 5 eggsMediocre business router

Pros: Cheap price for a VPN endpoint router, pretty good wireless range and signal.

Cons: Internal network DNS does not work in a workgroup environment. On the LAN IP settings of the router, you are forced to enter a domain name and cannot leave it blank. This in turn makes the router append that domain name to the hostname of any device on the network, which kills all network communication. I can no longer access other devices on my network using the hostname of the device.
VPN tunnel does not work properly. I have plenty of experience setting up router to router VPNs and I was able to get VPN tunnels working to a Linksys RV042 and to a WatchGuard SOHO 6. The issue is that the communication is one way and DNS does not translate through the VPN. I can access remote resources using IP addresses but not hostnames. Computers/servers on the remote networks cannot access any resources on my local network, either by hostname or IP address.
DHCP reservation list lacks a naming feature, so you have to remember which device has which IP address.
Remote management is usele

Other Thoughts: I'm not sure why this has been rated so highly, maybe other users have not tried to take full advantage of the VPN tunnel capability. I purchased this router for my home office because I need to have constant connections to 2 other remote offices using VPN tunnels.
On my home office network, I have 3 hardwired PCs, 2 hardwired IP phones, a hardwired TV, a hardwired PS3, a wireless laptop, an iPad, and an Android phone.
The web interface of this router is very quirky and requires "soft" reboots for every setting change, which takes about 15 seconds. I have dealt with many different routers from the basic offerings from D-Link, Linksys, and Netgear all the way to the low level gateways from Cisco (real Cisco routers), and everything in between. So I was expecting the interface to be different but it should need to reboot for every setting change.
To enable remote management, you have to specify the remote IP address that will be connecting. While this is secure, it is useless.

Manufacturer Response:

Sorry for the bad experience on EVR100. Can you email us your contact through We will assist you on the problem you confronted. Thank you.
