4 out of 5 eggsReliable and reasonable price

Pros: This works as promised. Puts out a reasonable signal. I mounted it to a 10ft high ceiling. Pretty blue lights (you can turn off). Used Poe then put it where there is no a/c.
Does not look like an A/P. Easy to setup.

Cons: Sometimes I have trouble connecting to it but that might be my router. The signal meter on my device never registers very high but it could have something to do with my 12 inch concrete wall

Other Thoughts: This was a good deal for me I bought it during a sale. I was able to place it where there is no a/c outlet on my ceiling by using Poe. I should have gotten dual band, I keep buying new gear and 5ghz is better.

5 out of 5 eggsThe best!

Pros: Price, performance, features.

Cons: Doesn't dance the Salsa :-)

Other Thoughts: I've been using these APs exclusively for my clients, you just can't beat the price, performance and neat smoke detector look.

4 out of 5 eggsNot perfect, but good

Pros: Lots of options, great Tx power, simple and efficient.

Cons: Not bulletproof, I still have to reboot it about once a week. But it's so much better than those junk all-in-one router/modem/AP combo things. May not be stout enough for corporate installs, but more than good enough for home/soho use.

Other Thoughts: Aaaah... I have wireless across the whole house again! And the back yard. And the front yard. And the workshop. And...

3 out of 5 eggsWorks, with caveats.

Pros: Looks ok, transmits a strong signal.

Cons: Some of my devices apparently do not put out a strong enough signal to make it through two hollow interior sheetrock walls.

Other Thoughts: This device rarely shows more than 10% received signal strength on connections, even with the devices in the same room. As with most APs, an occasional reboot seems to help, as devices will connect to the AP, but then not get an IP address. The brightness of the blue LEDs on mine are not an issue, even in a darked room. As others have stated, they can be turned off. Some kind of external antenna would probably help, but then the device would not look as neat and unobtrusive on the ceiling.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes support POE

Pros: I don't know what the person in the review below this one is talking about. This device does support POE. No need for splitters or any kind of adapters (provided that you have a switch that does POE), all you need is a cat5/6 cable connected to your switch and this device. Device is 802.3af which means it uses up to 15.4 watts. It idles at around 2.5 to 3.0 watts with no clients requesting data and the highest I've seen it go with 2 clients associated and light use is 4.5 watts. It's been working great for more than 6 months.

Cons: none so far.

4 out of 5 eggsNice Features, Good Range

Pros: I love the fact that it looks like a smoke detector. You can turn the blue lights on and off in the firmware. It makes a really good wireless AP. You can set it to take a dynamic IP and act as a wireless switch. I am planning on buying another one or two and create a wireless bridge for our IPTV customers that want a set top box in a seperate building on their property.

Cons: It is tricky to set up. You have to have something like a laptop and set the wireless adapter's ip address to 192.168.1.21 and make your gateway 192.168.1.1. Engenius boasts the incredible range, and they are somewhat right, but I think they throttled the range back in this one so you have to buy a more expensive one to get better range.

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for. You buy the least expensive one, you dont expect it to be amazing. Gui is pretty straight-forward. Much better than some Ive seen. Doesnt support direct POE, you have to have an injector and a splitter.(I made my own by taking a keystone jack and punching it normally, but cut the brown/white brown pair after the jack and pilled them to the +/- wires of the power adapter, and crimped the other 3 pairs to an RJ45 connector like normal. It fits inside the intended place for a normal poe splitter. And it worked just like any expensive Poe would.

4 out of 5 eggsdecent access point

Pros: The unit is a good looking unit. It blends in well with the commercial building, since it is just a little puck.

I thought it was easy to set up and fairly straight forward. The unit is connected to a Untangle firewall with a capture portal. The setup is to allow free WiFi in a commercial setting. They connect quickly and I rarely hear problems of it not working.

it can be ran off POE, which i have on a 8 port Cisco switch on two separate ~80ft runs.

Cons: minor thing, but the LEDs are bright! I was hoping they would die off a little after some use, but the are still strong as when they first went on line. They are now above the false ceiling tiles, still work fine.

4 out of 5 eggsVery Good

Pros: Easy to configure. Powerful. Design. Price. POE option. Built in DHCP server.

Cons: Admin password length restriction. Needs better controls for WiFi transmitter, and WiFi password

Other Thoughts: I installed this for a restaurant client and the aesthetics of the unit make it nearly invisible to the clientele. Having it powered off the optional POE simplifies installation. It has been running trouble free for 10mos.

Admin interface is basic; setup simple once I got passed a con: the admin password.

The admin interface password is limited to a max of 12 chars. Many of my clients use PWs longer than that. The issue is that you can type well over the 12 char limit into the admin PW setup field. Unless you know about the 12 char limit, you can't login again. For example you can enter "neweggIsReallyAwesome", but it ends up truncated to "neweggIsReal" without warning.

The second & third con have more to do with the ease of use and features for intended customers of this product: "hotels, schools, or public common areas."

* No schedule for deactivating the transmitter during non-business hours to prevent squatters
* No schedule for auto-updating of WiFi PWs

Otherwise a

2 out of 5 eggsDifficult Set Up - Wrong Product

Pros: Nice looking unit... Probably works well for a business.

Cons: My network did not want to recognize device. Had to disable one of my wireless cards before this unit could be seen by Explorer. Phone support did not stay with me once they answered a couple of questions. And that was after I waited for an hour. I never really saw the EnGenius on my monitor as I thought I should. Used iPad and Laptop to test and found no increase in bars. Probably never was synced correctly. So, I just gave up.

Other Thoughts: I am trying to extend my wireless range in a fairly large house. I already added a "booster" antenna which helped a little. If anyone has questions with a similar situation; go to microsoft tips> home > wireless where you will find an informative 5 pg doc.

I am now going to try an Amped Wireless SR300 Smart Repeater. It seems to have better reviews and better customer service. And, is a little different product that might work better in a home environment. I would have gone with DLink as they are the mfg of my router; however, the reviews were not as good and you can no longer call a customer service line. Too bad, as they used to be the best.
