5 out of 5 eggsIt does what its supposed to do

Pros: its very, very small, cheap and reliable. cant beat the price.

Cons: it wasnt free ;-)

Other Thoughts: I shipped this to my bro. who needed one ASAP to replace a big old rack switch as a temporal solution for his internet cafe, an he liked it so much that he still uses it.

1 out of 5 eggsVery short life

Pros: It worked for about a year.
Cheap.

Cons: Would "hang" occasionally and have to be repowered.
After a year, consistent, extremely slow performance from switch with no way to diagnose it's problems.
Short life means more junk for the landfills.

Other Thoughts: Mine is going in the trash today after about a year. It would have been better if it had quit working completely but it just slowed my small network to a crawl causing me to suspect my new 3 meg DSL connection while doing internet speed tests. I dug out an old 10meg ethernet hub which immediately corrected the problem. With this switch in place my internet speedtest.net download speed was about 1/2 of a 56K modem whereas it should be close to 3 meg (which it is now that the Encore is gone). Beware of this switch if you suddenly get a network that crawls (or occasionally stops). I will not buy anything encore again.

5 out of 5 eggsGood cheap switch

Pros: Cheap, quiet, easy to install.
Very good for quick-and-dirty fixes around the network, temporary use, etc.

Cons: Case feels a little flimsy but what do you expect for $10!

5 out of 5 eggsPerfectly fine 100 megabit switch

Pros: Cheap, 8 ports, runs at its rated speed. It has a power LED and a link indicator for each of the 8 ports, switch feels relatively sturdy compared to other devices in this category. This device starts forwarding in about five seconds, much shorter than the 50 seconds expected for regular spanning tree protocol - very nice.

Cons: nothing in particular

Other Thoughts: Some have indicated that this switch has no webUI. This is true but irrelevant. Personal level switches have no options to change or set up. It is plug and play, so to speak. Only expensive corporate level switches (i.e. Cisco Catalyst) have that kind of stuff.

4 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: Inexpensive
Works well

Cons: 10/100, but I didnt expect 10/100/1000 from a switch from this price range
Broadband modem lagged on any port besides the #8 port
Does not have a web UI, as far as I can see

Other Thoughts: Works for running 4 computers simultaneously, and well too.

3 out of 5 eggsCheap and works...

Pros: Inexpensive, easy to utilize with the PnP interfacing, solid performance thus far.

Cons: None that I've run into.

Other Thoughts: This is connected to a Linksys wireless router in my network. I'm using about three game consoles, four computers a few IP based cameras and a network storage system with about 5 of the ports used on the switch with no issues. Now I'm not pounding it all at once but so far so good...
