4 out of 5 eggsSimple and effective

Pros: Reasonable price.
Prefer having WIFI installed as a "card" and not a USB extra.
Bought this to use on my Linux (Ubuntu) box. Worked without any drama or surprises.

Cons: None. Worked the first time and continues to function as advertised.

Other Thoughts: I was building a DIY computer system bought her on NewEgg to serve as a dedicated Linux desktop. Was doing this on a shoestring so didn't want or need the latest and greatest hardware. Researched which WIFI cards worked and ordered this. Worked on first boot.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent adapter for the price.

Pros: This unit has shown fantastic and seamless throughput between my desktop and Roku. I must have got it on sale as I only paid $x.xx for it. It comes with a 5db antenna as well.

Cons: The wireless utility didn't work for jack. No problem as I uninstalled it and just use the windows one anyway. The driver on the disc is OLD. Definitely visit the manufacturer's website and update.

Other Thoughts: Should I need another adapter in the future, I will re-purchase. Excellent adapter for the $$$

3 out of 5 eggsGreat IF YOU CAN get it to work!

Pros: Free after rebate (FAR) so could not go wrong. Finally went from G to N so I upgraded my HTPC's G USB to this. Could not get it to work with the software that they shipped on the CD. Read the reviews and searched for the correct driver that someone else mentioned. Then it worked.

Cons: Encore website sucks, hard to find the right driver unless you have an idea of what you are looking for. Found the correct driver for this at the link.

Other Thoughts: It would have gotten 5 stars if it came with the working driver. Surfing from my HTPC to find the correct driver was a pain. But thanks for the free N150 PCI-E card.

4 out of 5 eggsGood enough

Pros: PCIe x1
N 150

Cons: drops connection occasionally

Other Thoughts: Bought this because I was hoping that a PCIe wireless adapter would be more reliable than a USB adapter hanging by a USB extension cable from the top of my desk. It's still in my computer, so I haven't gotten angry enough at it to remove it, but I am disappointed with the amount of time it drops my connection during heavy use. I may try to rig a fan to blow on it to see if that helps.

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't Work, Can't RMA

Pros: Was $3 after MIR + shipping.

Cons: Doesn't work. Net loss $3. Due to MIR, I can't return it.

Other Thoughts: Windows 7 (64bit) can't detect the device (says uninstalled/unknown in device manager) after installing, reinstalling CD drivers and drivers found online. Also attempted luck. No tech support number, just a comments submittal section on Encore's site.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat adapter for the money

Pros: Setup was quick and easy - when I booted my PC after inserting the card, I instantly had access to Wi-Fi right out of the box. I didn't even have to configure drivers (this was on Windows 8). I've been using it ever since then (about 2 months at the time of this writing).

Cons: Signal strength isn't the greatest compared to other Wi-Fi devices I own. The quality sometimes drops down to 65-75% for no apparent reason but doesn't seem to impact my performance. My Wi-Fi router is about 20 feet across the room from where I'm using this adapter, so the signal strength should be practically perfect at this close range.

Other Thoughts: Only lost an egg because of the aforementioned signal strength thing. I've never had it drop a connection on me, and so far this adapter has worked quite well. It goes a long way toward decluttering the mess of cables surrounding my PC setup!

1 out of 5 eggsDon't bother

Pros: Nothing

Cons: The wireless aspect of the card does not work. I installed the drivers from the disk and only the LAN works. Tried installing the drivers from the site(using a wireless USB adapter) thinking the drivers may have been updated online or whatever. Still won't work. I even read the manual but it was useless. Bought a WIRELESS card to use WIRELESS internet and the drivers won't allow it. From what I read on here even when it does work it is remarkably slow. Wanted a cheap wireless card and I guess I got what I paid for.

1 out of 5 eggsWorks so far.

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Install driver package and nothing happens. I had to manually pic a generic Realtec driver for the card to install.

This is more than 90% of the user base would be able to do on their own.

Performance is slow, the USB g card it replaced is faster...

1 out of 5 eggsSmoked on Power Up

Pros: Cannot think of any.

Cons: This card smoked in my computer. I wanted to replace my faithful TrendNet Wireless LAN because there is no driver for Win 8.

I installed this in the same slot as I had removed the TrendNet from, powered up my rig, and my rig immediately shut down. No fans, no case lighting, totally silent. Then I smelled smoke. I was not happy.

I pulled the ENCORE card out, and there was a very strong smell coming from under the metal RF shielding can.

Fortunately, my rig powered up after the ENCORE was removed. Hopefully there will be no long-term ill effect to my rig - we'll see.

I guess I'm going to have to eat this one, because the NewEgg refund will only net me 3 bucks after I pay for return shipping using their "discounted" UPS.

Other Thoughts: Bad experience made worse by the inexplicably high cost for return shipping.
