1 out of 5 eggsWorks so far.

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Install driver package and nothing happens. I had to manually pic a generic Realtec driver for the card to install.

This is more than 90% of the user base would be able to do on their own.

Performance is slow, the USB g card it replaced is faster...

1 out of 5 eggsSmoked on Power Up

Pros: Cannot think of any.

Cons: This card smoked in my computer. I wanted to replace my faithful TrendNet Wireless LAN because there is no driver for Win 8.

I installed this in the same slot as I had removed the TrendNet from, powered up my rig, and my rig immediately shut down. No fans, no case lighting, totally silent. Then I smelled smoke. I was not happy.

I pulled the ENCORE card out, and there was a very strong smell coming from under the metal RF shielding can.

Fortunately, my rig powered up after the ENCORE was removed. Hopefully there will be no long-term ill effect to my rig - we'll see.

I guess I'm going to have to eat this one, because the NewEgg refund will only net me 3 bucks after I pay for return shipping using their "discounted" UPS.

Other Thoughts: Bad experience made worse by the inexplicably high cost for return shipping.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks with the Realtek driver

Pros: Works properly after installing the Realtek driver and turning on the system's wireless feature. Speed is topped at 120 Mbps (sometimes drops to 90 Mbps) with the router in the next room. System is Windows 2012 Server as workstation. So I believe it also works with Windows 8.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Free after rebate makes it a good deal. Now waiting for the rebate.

1 out of 5 eggsCareful with XP Pro

Pros: Easy to install

Cons: Installed one of the two ordered in a XP Pro system (SP3) with all Windows updates. Would not recognize the hardware, even with new drivers from manufacturer. Uninstalled and returned for credit.

Other Thoughts: May work fine with Vista/7 but a no-show on XP Pro.

1 out of 5 eggsUseless

Pros: Fit easily into my motherboard.

Cons: Never got this thing working. The included CD didn't work, the drivers from their website didn't work, using the Realtek driver (as listed in a previous review on this page) didn't work for me, and Windows never even recognized that it was plugged in, let alone missing a driver.

Other Thoughts: The price tag is tempting, but you're better off spending a little bit extra on an adapter with a better rating and reputation. You might have better luck than most of the people reviewing the product here, but it's not a gamble I'd be interested in taking again.
