The ENCORE ENEWI-1XN42 Wireless N150 PCI-E Adapter is fully compliant with IEEE 802.11n 2.0 specification; it allows users to connect to 802.11n wireless networks up to 150 Mbps. It is also backward-compatible with IEEE 802.11b/g wireless network at 11/54 Mbps respectively. This PCI-E adapter includes convenient utility software for scanning available wireless networks and an option to save profiles of preferred networks at user’s choice. Configurable wireless security and encryption software are also included.

802.11n Support Compliant with 802.11n, the ENCORE ENEWI-1XN42 delivers wireless speed up to 150Mbps and remains backward compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b wireless networks. It automatically prioritizes wireless traffic to reduce time lags during Online Gaming, Video Streaming, and VoIP, ideal or Surfing the Web, Sharing Files, Streaming Video, and Playing Online Games.

I had to manually pic a generic Realtec driver for the card to install. This is more than 90% of the user base would be able to do on their own. I wanted to replace my faithful TrendNet Wireless LAN because there is no driver for Win 8. I installed this in the same slot as I had removed the TrendNet from, powered up my rig, and my rig immediately shut down. No fans, no case lighting, totally silent. Then I smelled smoke. I was not happy. I pulled the ENCORE card out, and there was a very strong smell coming from under the metal RF shielding can. Fortunately, my rig powered up after the ENCORE was removed. Hopefully there will be no long-term ill effect to my rig - we'll see. I guess I'm going to have to eat this one, because the NewEgg refund will only net me 3 bucks after I pay for return shipping using their "discounted" UPS. Speed is topped at 120 Mbps (sometimes drops to 90 Mbps) with the router in the next room. System is Windows 2012 Server as workstation. So I believe it also works with Windows 8. Cons: None so far. The included CD didn't work, the drivers from their website didn't work, using the Realtek driver (as listed in a previous review on this page) didn't work for me, and Windows never even recognized that it was plugged in, let alone missing a driver. Other Thoughts: The price tag is tempting, but you're better off spending a little bit extra on an adapter with a better rating and reputation.
