4 out of 5 eggs3 year Update

Pros: Excellent little wireless adapter with the right driver.

Cons: Plastic casing is flimsy and may separate at the seam. Easy fix is to wrap a small piece of Scotch tape around it and rock on.

Driver (2012?) supplied on CD and Encore web site is old and will cause BSOD when running peer to peer or anything that causes many connections at once. See other thoughts for fix.

Other Thoughts: Get the newer (and rock solid) drivers from Realtek. You want the "RTL8192CU" driver, that is the chip that these use. > Downloads > Communications Network ICs > Wireless LAN ICs > WLAN NIC > IEEE 802.11b/g/n Single-Chip > Software > RTL8192CU

4 out of 5 eggsA couple arrived damaged

Pros: Works fine. I took off 1 egg due to receiving damaged ones at first. See cons.

Cons: The first two I received arrived damaged. The plastic casing was cracked. Did not appear to be shipping-related. Newegg was very helpful in getting them replaced promptly. Third one arrived with no damage.

Pros: Great reception for such a small antenna

Cons: Mounting base suction cup is a bit hard to get to attach to anything but a super slick surface

5 out of 5 eggsDoes the Job.

Pros: Simple set up. Stays connected. Small.

Cons: None that I have encountered.

2 out of 5 eggsIt worked for a little while

Pros: -Only reason its getting 2 eggs and not 1 its because of the cheap price
-Low cost
-Easy to set up

Cons: -It died after 5 months of modest use
-Contacting the company was difficult, never responded to my RMA submission. The other reviewers are not lying.

Other Thoughts: -Buy a different WIFI adapter even if slightly more expensive from a different company so at least you know you'll be able to RMA it if you have issues.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This thing is great! It picks up more wifi networks than any other adapter I've used. I also managed to get the thing to work with a Debian (wheezy) server that I scraped together.

Cons: I have had no problems with it.

4 out of 5 eggsaffordable adapter

Pros: Adapter got from newegg to me i 2 days. I paid 11.00 dollars counting shipping for it. it works pretty good. have not done any speed tests to see how well it works but i cant see a performance change from switching from the onboard wireless. the adapter is actually for my new computer which has not arrived yet (still waiting on the MOBO, CPU and video card.

Cons: should have paid the extra for the 300mbps one. but not really this devices fault. o and of course wish it was smaller but seems good for what it is so far. more testing will conclude once i have my new build completed next week.

Other Thoughts: After the adapter arriving 6/19/2013 i have played around with it. currently connects to my laptop just as well as the onboard wireless does. just make sure you use the cd to install the drivers as Windows 7 does not seem to find the drivers on its own.

3 out of 5 eggsalmost made it 2 years before it crapped out

Pros: cheap, effective (while it lasts). When it worked, great speeds, good signal and distance.

Cons: after about 20 months of use on a stationary desktop system, it started having daily issues. Had to uninstall/reinstall the driver almost every day. sometimes the computer wouldn't recognize anything plugged in. sometimes it saw it and said it was disconnected????? right-click and choose the option to connect (this is in the network interfaces menu) and nothing happens. Already ordered a rosewill wifi pcie x1 card and it is on its way. Not getting one from this brand again.

Other Thoughts: Unit never had a heat issue, but seems SLIGHTLY better now that i open the plastic shell around it. Now it is just the naked microchip and the antenna, soldered to the usb male connector. Hopefully it will last 3 business days til the new and different card gets here.

4 out of 5 eggsGood bang for the buck.

Pros: Easy to install driver. You can have Windows manage wireless connections and avoid bothering with the included software. Decent range. Functions well for your average home internet user.

Cons: It's a cheap and easy wireless option with semi-shoddy software, should you choose to use it. Handy, but don't expect the world for under $20 ;)

Other Thoughts: I worked in a store for a couple of years where we fixed PCs and sold these adapters because they work well and are cheap, which is why I snagged one when we moved into our new place and had use for it.
