4 out of 5 eggsFull Featured Switch

Pros: Full Featured Managed Switch. Really quite nice -- I'm using SNMP with it and the company makes getting firmware updates reasonably easy.

Over all a good switch -- EXCEPT (read on)

Cons: The Fan on it died within a few months of operation.

However, contacting support was easy and getting a new fan was just a matter of talking with the reps via email.

They sent me a new fan for me to install rather than making me send the unit back for an item that can and should be replaceable by a knowledgeable admin.

Other Thoughts: NOT surprisingly, the unit does generate some heat -- so make sure not to enclose it in a space without adequate ventilation.

If you're not sure how warm it gets -- you can always monitor from the web management screen ( excellent! ).

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Switch - but 4 Months later, Fan Fails

Pros: This is a really nice managed switch with everything you'd pretty much want from a smart, managed switch.

The menus are reasonably designed and I haven't found any terrible HTML bugs yet.

Cons: After 4 months of very sporadic operation (i.e. wasn't plugged in 24/7) the internal fan has already failed.

I've contacted support for a new fan.

Replacing the whole switch would be silly -- so we'll see how they handle it.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent value, features, and warranty.

Pros: Finally, a small POE switch with solid construction. Zyxel offers a LIFETIME warranty on these. We have installed a half dozen of these (and it's bigger brother, the ES2024PWR) at hotels for powering the access points. VLAN can be done per port or per trunking, very useful. Temperature sensors tell you how hot the switch is running, and POE can be toggled on/off per invidividual port. Very useful for remotely rebooting POE access points. Also, this is a small thing, but I like that in the GUI you can type a label for each port. It's nice to see what port goes where when you're changing VLAN setup or needing to toggle on/off POE power to a device.

Cons: Only minor drawback would be that there's only one Gb port. I'd like to see 2 on here, but I guess that would increase the price. Same complaint about the bigger model (ES2024PWR) - there's only 2 Gb ports, and it would be nice to have 4. Comparable DLink and Linksys switches have more Gb ports.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat option for getting rid PoE adapters

Pros: Enterprise features in a tiny switch -- the vlan/trunking features none the less management features bring nice value to a tiny PoE switch.

Cisco-like CLI without the Cisco-like price

Haven't had a single one fail yet and have somewhere around 10 of them.

Cons: none really

Other Thoughts: I used this product for spreading out PoE to Polycom phones in employee pods. Perfect for small incremental phone deploys. I can see using these to power PoE based wifi units as well.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat PoE switch for incremental deploys

Pros: Small density/low cost, Cisco IOS like interface, managed, uplink ports!

Cons: You can do better on per port costs on bigger switches

Other Thoughts: These are great little switches for shoving under clusters of desks. Perfect for smaller VOIP setups and/or adding incremental numbers of PoE ports.

This products non-PoE sibling is also worth checking out.
