2 out of 5 eggsDisappointing compatibility

Pros: Decent aesthetics...

Cons: Did not work at all for the purpose I bought it for.

Other Thoughts: I bought this kit because the price was great and I wanted to try to get Netflix working on my ethernet-only LG Blu-ray player. Sadly the player could never get an IP address even when everything else worked fine. Ended up going with a Linksys Wireless Bridge instead, which has its own quirks but at least functions properly once configured.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent for price!

Pros: Cannot beat the price! Powerline adapters are nowhere near this price right now for just the adapters let alone a built in wireless router. The router firmware is actually somewhat decent. Shows average speeds, CPU and RAM usage, and easy to navigate menus.

Cons: Some manual configuration necessary. You must log into the router and plug in the MAC address and another code from the other powerline adapter. Hardly difficult, but not exactly plug and play.

Other Thoughts: For those wondering, the powerline adapter works JUST as if it was an ethernet. For example, I have my primary router (not ZyXel) in the back of my house. I have the powerline brick connected to the primary router and have the ZyXel router near the front of my house acting as an access point (no DHCP). So the powerline does not work necessarily JUST for accessing the router. It works connect the router to existing equipment as well. Hope that helps!

2 out of 5 eggsTaking a gamble if you purchase...

Pros: Great price.

Cons: Gamble; you may receive a kit that works perfectly fine, or one that comes with a defective router.

Other Thoughts: I purchased one of these kits a few months ago for my personal use, and that kit works GREAT to this day.

Going off the satisfaction of the first kit, I recently purchased another kit for another household.

Not such a good experience this time. The router reboots randomly, usually within 20 minutes. I cannot find a specific "trigger" for the reboot; its does it eventually no matter the load/use of the router. I tried everything to fix or at least alleviate the problem to bearable levels, including firmware updates, and numerous configuration settings. Nothing seems to work as it always reboots eventually.

Possibly there are bad batches of this router?

Regardless, I say its not worth the gamble. Thanks to this bad router on my 2nd order, I feel like I can't trust the one I'm using personally anymore.

Stay away. Pay a little more for piece of mind at least.

2 out of 5 eggsCrashes

Pros: It works great out of the box and setup is a breeze.

Cons: I have it setup with wireless, wired, and power line. Seems to crash when I'm watching HD video between one computer and another while using the internet. I'm not even using bittorrent when it crashes.

Other Thoughts: I don't think I'd buy it again if I knew that it would be crashy.

5 out of 5 eggsRock Solid

Pros: Up to 40 Mbps, rock solid connection. Excellent Tech support by phone. Streams HD content to my XBOX 360 flawlessly. Low Price. Powerline adapter function is plug and play.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I called tech support to configure the router as an access point. They walked me through the settings in no time. With this kit you get a wireless router and powerline adapter for less than a powerline adapter kit. Great Product.

4 out of 5 eggsNifty but not intuitive

Pros: Price, speed

Cons: Setup is not intuitive and options not clearly detailed in instructions. I got the setup info I needed by reading another review. I have an existing (non-powerline) wireless router plugged into my broadband modem. Bought this router and put on other side of house, turned off wireless and dhcp, changed the router config to connect to the internet through the AV adapter which I plugged into my existing router. Seems to be working fine. Now I have 100mbps connection througout my house that I can stream though. Worried about other reviews, though, saying product dies after a while

Other Thoughts: Don't upgrade the firmware. I tried flashing to "v2" thinking it was the latest, then the AV adapter wouldn't connect until I flashed it back to original "v1" firmware version

5 out of 5 eggsWorkds Great!

Pros: Worked very well. Easy to set up and have not had any problems with it.

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: I am only using this for a phone that requires a wired ethernet port to do CAPTEL services so I have not used it for web surfing and did not speed test it etc. When setting it up i did have my laptop hooked up to it and was able to surf just fine but I did not thoroughly test it. Worked perfect for my uses and saved me from the hassle of drilling holes in the floor and running hundreds of feet of CAT 5 cable. I am also not using the wireless router I use another one and have this hooked up through that. Definitely recommend it.

1 out of 5 eggsDissapointed at best

Pros: Simplicity, should be a great solution, unfortunately my original 'new' unit was bad, spent hours working with it but it bricked and could not reset or allow any logging in....so

Cons: RMA'ed to Zyxel because I was beyond Newegg window, they did provide a shipping label, but it was a couple weeks before the replacement unit arrived..which was dirty, and a little scuffed, obviously a refurb....not the end of the world except.....

Other Thoughts: The replacement router died in literally 10 minutes, first power on, booted, off in 2 then on for a bit. Tried again last weekend, green light blinked for a couple minutes... then went out, a strange hissing sound coming from the router... wanted this to work but about to go to Amex warranty claim for defective goods. I want a new unit that works!!! We will see how round 2 goes with Zyxel...have to decide chance another RMA or allow Amex to take care of it....

5 out of 5 eggsBest Networking Equipment Invented

Pros: extemely fast connections, anywhere with an outlet, this means in cabinets, behind av equipment, in basements, just amazing

Cons: more cables, units get warm

Other Thoughts: I have tried for months to get two wrt160n to stream high speed HD video to each other from one end of my townhome to the opposite end in the basement. I don't have a big place. N is soo picky and unreliable. I used DD-WRT and tweaked until I just decided to use these kits. I bought two of these kits so I could use the multiple ports on the routers. I have a wrt160n with ddwrt in repeater mode which picks up my neighbor's wireless signal ( we split the bill) and then broadcasts it in my house. I plugged the remote powerline adapter into the repeater and then placed two of the routers behind my AV equipment upstairs and downstairs. Put everything on the same subnet (xxx.xxx.2.xxx) and set the repeater as the DHCP server. Turned off the wireless capabilities and DHCP in the two powerline routers. I now have 2 directv boxes, 1 HTPC and a PS3 networked. I get full speed on the PS3, no latency (10ms), and stream full 1080p HD video from one directv box to another. It is amazing.
