5 out of 5 eggsVery solid little NIC

Pros: I picked up a couple of these so I could get rid of some cables runs and have a backup in case a NIC ever died on me. The installation was very easy and the ZyXEL drivers installed no problem on both Vista and Windows 7. Transfer speeds are fine, nothing that will blow you away as the standard is only 150Mbps, but for an intro level NIC like this you could do far worse. Most importantly, after over a year I haven't had any of these fail on me.

Cons: The size of the adapter wouldn't be idea if you want to leave it plugged in to a laptop all the time as it sticks out just enough to be a pain. This isn't really a problem though as they include a short USB extender that you can use.

Other Thoughts: You're probably better off buying something like this than one of the really cheap adapters, as I doubt they would have the same longevity.

1 out of 5 eggsOS X issue

Pros: None

Cons: Details state that this will work with mac OS X 10.3 - 10.5, it will not work with 10.3,10.4 - device is only supported for 10.5-10.7 - I know that's an old OS and probably shouldn't be used. But for a customer who wanted an easy wifi upgrade for an old pc - what a hassle!

2 out of 5 eggsSlow - not N speeds

Pros: Unit was priced right, and connection strength is good even in a closet on another floor.

Cons: SLOW. connects to my windows 7 machine and reports 54mbps, and never goes higher. checked router settings and confirmed it wasn't the router, still same results.

Other Thoughts: considering the price, not a bad deal. but my generic-name hongkong import wireless card outspeeds it handily.

3 out of 5 eggsTiny, uneven signal strength, high power draw

Pros: Very small USB dongle, good software package if you want the extra features.

Cons: Though this is common to all USB dongles, I'm constantly afraid I'm going to reach behind the computer and snap it off.

The bigger problem is that signal strength and power draw are sometimes issues. Placement in the front vs. the back of the computer can be a real issue. Also on some computers (usually low power Atom based models) I've found the USB ports can't supply enough power to run the dongle consistently. That could be an issue with the computer motherboard, but keep it in mind.

Other Thoughts: For an inexpensive USB WiFi dongle it isn't a bad choice, but it does appear to have some issues which, to be fair, may or not be it's fault and may be common with other USB dongles.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks good

Pros: Works on Mac OS X the entire reason i got it was to give wifi to my iMac Tray Load system i am restoring. This card is excilent on Windows 2000 until my iMac is restored i am using this on a DELL Optiplex GX260 with Windows 2000.

Cons: DOES NOT WORK WITH LINUX! if you are wanting it for that reason get something else this uses the Ralink RT2870 Chip which does not work on Linux.

Other Thoughts: Oddly using this on OS X this card is not detected as a AirPort instead in the Network Utility it shows as a Eathernet Card and you need to use the Utility and drivers on the Zyxel website to make it work the Driver CD Provided DOES NOT provice OS X Drivers the CD only has Windows Drivers. It works on Mac OS X 10.3 to 10.6 using the 10.5 drivers on 10.6 there is no drivers (as of this review) for OS X Lion (10.7)

1 out of 5 eggsVery Inconsistent Performance

Pros: Price (on sale), size

Cons: Connection speed, reliability, pretty much all of the things you're looking for in a wireless adapter

Other Thoughts: I bought this adapter since my motherboard was having issues with my Belkin PCI wireless N adapter so I figured I'd try USB. First off I wasn't a fan of the software that came with is so I uninstalled that and just used the drivers. Ever since I started using is product I've had nothing but problems with my internet connection. It usually connects at 11 Mbps and I've yet to see wireless N speeds. When I wake my computer from being suspended it fails to reconnect about 80% of the time so I have to repair the connection each time to connect. I use Skype a lot and the connection is so intermittent I just have to end calls. I've watched the pings and the adapter just starts loosing packets then it works fine again... Non-the-less I'm shopping for a replacement.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

Pros: Works on Windows 7 64 bit, 32 bit, and XP. Strong signal.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Leeched from few apartments away. Unbeatable for the price. With XP, had to install drivers only, no utility. BUY IT!
