ZyXEL GS1100-16 Unmanaged 10/100/1000Mbps 16 Port Unmanaged Gigabit Rackmount Switch

Pros: None. Unmanaged switches are plug and play. This one actually gave me difficulty from the start. Ports were not detected and after several startups it finally recognized my devices. Would eventually have to power cycle the switch routinely to get everything working again. See below:

Cons: After two months, ports were going bad. Network slowdowns, my routers, IP cameras, everything started to go into slow motion and then resume normal speeds; cycling like this every 10 to 15 minutes. Multiple ports affected.

Other Thoughts: Tried to save a little money. Giving this Zyxel product only ONE egg because they don't offer anything lower. Ended up spending what I should have on 16 port Cisco Small Business switch. It works. The Zyxel does not, and judging by a lot of the comments here, and looking at their legal mumbo jumbo on their RMA process, a lot more than just mine don't work either. Lesson learned.

Pros: Nice Price, Works

Cons: Never regestered above 100mb/s speed, on 8 computers with Gb/s cards. A few days over 4 months all of a sudden ports start failing.

Other Thoughts: Time to look for a replacement

Pros: Works great. no problems. Three months and still going fine.

Cons: None

Pros: Bought on sale at a good price from Newegg! One of the two is working fine at work for the last 4 months in a server room (where temp and humility is controlled).

Cons: The one I have at home is dying. 5 ports are now bad and several others are flaky and loosing connectivity intermittently.

Pros: Not much to say.
Very fast.

Cons: Nothing really.

Pros: Low price, compact, no fan, runs cool.

Cons: lights are not at the port, they are all off to the side. Not a problem when everything works, makes it a bit more difficult to determine if a port is actually sensing a connection.

Other Thoughts: This is the second one have bought and both are working fine after a couple months. I have used both with all 16 port connected.

Pros: Compact design. Not overengineered. Comes with rackmount ears. No external power supply. Best price I could find anywhere!

Cons: None. Does exactly what it claims.

Other Thoughts: I saw immediate improvement in network speeds after installing in my rack. 5X faster transfers inside the rack...2-3X faster transfers across the house. And I haven't even swapped out the Cat5e cabling yet. Very nice performance for the price.

Pros: Great unit while it worked. What else is there to say, it is an unmanaged switch.

Cons: It died exactly 1 month in-service. Took the business network down.... :-(

Pros: Cool operation, seems to be just a bit warmer than room temperature. Compact, so it fits on a desktop, workbench or small shelf if you are not mounting in a rack. Fantastic price for a 16 port gig switch when I bought it on sale at Newegg.

Cons: No lights on each individual port. Lights are in an array of 16 on the left side of the front panel. Not a real "con" as long as everything is working well and you don't have to tell which ports are active at a glance.

Other Thoughts: I connected 12 laptops and used multicast to copy an image of Windows 7 with Office 2010 to all of them in about 12 minutes.

Pros: Rack mountable which I needed in my basement rack.
Plugged it in, and it worked.
No external power brick, everything contained.
Never had to reboot.
No bad ports after 1 year.

Cons: The price goes up and down. I got mine on sale at newegg daily special for something like $70

Other Thoughts: Never used Zytel in the past, but happy to say I'd buy again.
