16-port Web Managed Gigabit Switch with Auto-VoIP Optimization and Auto-DoS Protection

The ZyXEL GS1510-16 is a user-friendly solution aiming at office network environments demanding silent operation and green technology. It provides security and plug-and-play simplicity for sustainable high-bandwidth connectivity.

The GS1510-16 is a 16-port 10/100/1000 Mbps Web-managed switches. It not only provides Layer-2 switching capability at wire speed over the current CAT-5 cabling to desktops following the IEEE standards, but also features high performance, ease of use, flexible deployment and enhanced energy efficiency. It is ideal for small businesses to protect the existing network investments while extending managed networks.

  • newegg Secure your network To address security needs, The GS1510-16 not only supports 802.1X port-based authentication that allows the network to be authenticated through external RADIUS servers, but also enables Web authentication to provide enhanced, secured collaboration with ZyXEL's NWA3000 AP Series.
  • newegg Easy installation The GS1510-16 offers plug-and-play connectivity and easy installation. The Auto MDI/MDI-X feature eliminates the need for crossover cables when connecting to another switch or hub, and the Auto-negotiation feature senses the link speed of a connected network device then intelligently makes adjustments for compatibility and optimal performance.
  • newegg Easy management The GS1510-16 offers easy management through SNMP, and the Web-based GUI provides two modes: Smart Mode and Advanced Mode. Smart Mode enables IT administrators to quickly set up important features such as basic IP settings, Energy Efficient Ethernet, Web Authentication, DHCP Snooping, and the Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) while Advanced Mode provides more comprehensive options for users to configure more advanced settings. In addition, the GS1510-16 provides Auto-discovery for topology management. Auto-Discovery helps a network administrator to find the IP address of a GS1510-16 on the network by performing a simple scan; this function is useful if the default IP address has been changed and the device could not be located on the network.
  • newegg Green networking The environment-aware GS1510-16 offers 10/100M Ethernet speeds critical to next-generation network applications while reducing energy consumption for lower operating costs.
  • newegg Fanless design The fanless design of the GS1510-16 ensures quiet operation making it the perfect solution for small business and SOHO office deployments.

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage

Pros: None

Cons: Doesn't do VLANs properly

Other Thoughts: I bought this switch to be able to do VLAN trunking for my ESXi lab but it just doesn't work. It is a complete piece of garbage.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat switch, more options than expected

Pros: Caught it on sale for a bit less than I'd have expected to pay for an unmanaged switch.

Web interface is adequate, certainly preferable to me than using some console interface. I'm not sure if I'll miss a CLI or not...but for my needs, it looks like this switch has enough in the web interface to suit all my needs.

Cons: No complaints on Zyxel's side, although I'm disappointed in Newegg shipping this in the original box without at least sealing it first. There was no tape on it, so someone could easily have opened it up and taken things out of it if they wanted to. Luckily, that didn't happen.

SNTP wants exact dates for daylight savings time...if I decide I care enough, I'll log in twice a year and change my GMT offset.

Other Thoughts: I bought this for the backbone of a home ESXi lab. It was cheap, rackmountable, and would give me VLAN and aggregation support. Barring any future failures, I couldn't be happier.

3 out of 5 eggsOh dear

Pros: Fantastic price, high switch fabric capacity, lots of ports for not a lot of money.

Cons: I have owned other ZyXEL switches for years and had trouble free service. I bought three of these to work on more advanced setups. In particular wanted to work with 802.1x. The firmware seems to have a few bugs associated with this. The "Shared Key" only accepts numerics, and if you use 17 characters it seems to overflow a buffer as now it will only give "unknown error code" when trying to correct things. The "RESET" button does not seem to reset to factory defaults after this (don't know about before hand, didn't have a need to reset beforehand). I am working on a solution while waiting to hear from ZyXEL support, the first I have ever needed to contact them. I am optimistic things will get resolved, but be VERY wary of using 802.1x with this switch. I hope to get things squared away and will post a very positive review if I can make it work as the price in incredible.

Other Thoughts: Even if I am unable to restore 802.1x functionality, the price/Gbps port is phenomenal.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Switch

Pros: Price.
Managed switch, and do multiple VLANs and supports Link Aggregation.

Cons: None yet, I hope it lasts.

Other Thoughts: I have 4 VLANs configured, 3 seperate VLANs using multipathing for iSCSI traffic on 6 ports for my SAN and ESXi server, the other for standard network trt

5 out of 5 eggsIt does what I want, for cheap

Pros: It support LACP for link aggregation, which, for the price, is impossible to beat. I am using this for my Synology 1511+ box, and it worked.

The price was amazing. I can't get many 16 port switches for < $120, let alone managed, and supporting Link Aggregation

Cons: Link aggregation, while not difficult to setup, could probably have been easier.

The web interface isn't great, but it works

Other Thoughts: I haven't tried VLANs yet. Not sure I'll ever need them.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent switch for the price

Pros: Great price, solid equipment, Link aggregation, QOS, and VLAN tagging. We installed this switch in a small SCDPM configuration and for the price this is a great switch. The vlans and link aggregation work well.

Cons: Clunky management interface

Other Thoughts: This switch isn't a Cisco by any stretch of the imagination. The other side is: It's a third of the price and works well. This is a great entry level smart switch with a lot of great features. The management interface leaves a lot to be desired, but how often are you in there?

2 out of 5 eggsWish it worked.

Pros: * Quiet
* Compact
* Good transfer speeds.

Cons: The way VLANs are setup on this switch are stupid. I have worked with Cisco, Nortel and Extreme switches and have never had problems. I have yet to get this switch to tag packets and work properly with a Nortel switch.

Other Thoughts: I really wish this thing worked. What a waste of money.
