Smart Managed Switch Embracing Greater Bandwidth and Future-Proof Technologies

The ZyXEL XGS1910/GS1910 Series 24/48-port GbE Smart Managed Switch is smart switches with optional 10GbE uplink for maximum throughput to fulfill increasing network demands for Small and Medium Businesses (SMB). The Series consists of six models – XGS1910-24, XGS1910-48, GS1910-24, GS1910-24HP, GS1910-48 and GS1910-48HP – that provide 24/48 10/100/1000BASE-T PoE Plus or non-PoE copper ports. The XGS1910 models provide 2/4 10GbE connectivity for uplinks.

The XGS1910/GS1910 Series is ideal for securing 10/100, Gigabit and 10GbE connectivity; it also offers IEEE 802.3az, access security, advanced prioritization, traffic-monitoring capabilities and a fanless design. Meanwhile, the Series supports smooth IPv6 migration for future expansions. As a result, the XGS1910/GS1910 Series is suitable for fulfilling SMB network needs with cost-effective, valuable frameworks.

Smart Layer 2 features enrich access networks

The ZyXEL XGS1910/GS1910 Series consists of full-featured GbE Ethernet switches providing comprehensive Layer 2 switching capabilities such as Access Control List (ACL) rules and 802.1AB LLDP and LLDP-MED, etc. The Series delivers the essential network features for businesses with easy-to-use management at a right price. That is, the XGS1910/GS1910 Series is the best Edge switch range for small- and medium-size businesses to build high-performance network efficiently.

GbE bandwidth for desktops

When videos of higher resolution and data flow constantly evolve, network user demands might not be satisfied and business operations hampered by insufficient bandwidth. The ZyXEL XGS1910/GS1910 Series provides GbE bandwidth to desktops to ensure sufficient bandwidth for all business communications, data delivery and daily operations. Taking advantages of GbE, businesses can create premium worry-free IT environment and expand operations with desirable efficiency and productivity.

Energy management with IEEE 802.3az and IEEE802.3at PoE Plus

As operating overheads such as electric bills increase constantly due to the rising green awareness, businesses have to avoid unnecessary energy waste. The built-in IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) features of ZyXEL XGS1910/GS1910 Series can reduce energy consumption of Ethernet devices through defining low-power modes and adjusting the operating timeframe to help saving the related costs effectively.

Meanwhile, although IEEE 802.3af is insufficient for providing power to large-scale network deployments or high-power devices such as outdoor Wi-Fi APs, IP cams and IP phones, fortunately the ZyXEL GS1910 Series features IEEE 802.3at PoE Plus with up to 30W power per port to flexibly extend network deployments. 802.3at PoE Plus makes the switch ideal for connecting numerous powered devices to form a flawless business network.

Optional 10GbE uplink for flexible data delivery

Ready for the future 10 Gigabit Ethernet, the ZyXEL XGS1910 Series collocates 2/4 10GbE connectivity for uplinks that allow SMBs to deliver higher bandwidth for congestion relief and smooth data delivery. Furthermore, 10GbE Gigabit uplinks to desktops also allow businesses to become highly efficient IT environments for secure, smooth daily online operations.

5 out of 5 eggsLACP works great with Mac Pro and Synology DiskStations

Pros: I needed an inexpensive switch that supported link aggregation (LACP) for my Synology DiskStation. I have been using the GS1910-24 for 20 days. It is stable and it works great so far. I upgraded the firmware to V2.00(AAAX.0)C0 as soon as I powered it on, so I can’t speak to previous versions of firmware. I have enabled 6 ports for Auto LACP: 2x GBE for a Mac Pro, and 4x GBE for the Synology DiskStation. No crashes or lock-ups as other reviews suggested. I regularly see 250+MB/sec according to rsync. Tried with two DiskStations (1513+ for a ~4 days, replaced by a 1515+) and got the same results.

Cons: Web interface takes a little getting used to and looks like it was made in 1996.

5 out of 5 eggsUntouchable at this price point!

Pros: I can't add anything more than what previous reviewers have already said other than I've owned this switch for about a year now and it's worked flawlessly. It's relatively straight-forward to configure; if you've configured a managed switch before you'll have no problems. The GUI interface is easy to navigate too. ZyXEL has also continued to support this switch by releasing updated firmware since I initially purchased it. Just be sure to read the directions on how to install the firmware or else you risk bricking the switch.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I bought this for my home network and it's worked so well that I'm going to be rolling out several in a small office environment. I can totally attest to what a previous reviewer said about how Netgear's GUI interface is really clunky compared to this switch's as well.

5 out of 5 eggsWOW, What a deal (and its' Silent!!!)

Pros: I need a Switch to support my 4 Port Synology DS1513+ NAS because I needed LAPC Port Aggregation, VLAN capability and jumbo frames. It is my first managed switch and I must say it has a great web interface and is easy to setup. It is also a great performer. Lowest price I’ve seen for a switch with these features!
I use this in my house and my pervious switch was very loud. This unit is Silent!!! Not a sound!. No Fan and the unit doesn't get warm!

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsFlexible unit

Pros: Great units with plenty of configuration options for vlans and such at a great price point. I've got some other Zyxel products and no issues with any yet. Backplane throughput is good and handles plenty of large simultaneous file transfers fine.

Replaced a pair of netgears with a pair of these as the netgears would randomly need rebooting every so often. These have been up and running 6 months now without a glitch.

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: If your used to Netgear, HP, etc smart/managed menus then it takes a little bit of time to familiarize with the Zyxel layout but it's not too huge of a learning curve, and the manual is written quite well.

3 out of 5 eggsHad some problems

Pros: Nice feature set, good price.

Cons: Failed to work with some older wiring, some config confusion

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace an HP switch that had gotten fried by lightning. On this part of my network, I have only CAT5 network cables installed, and this switch was having trouble sending data over them. At first it detected them as gigabit and could not send traffic. I then forced it to 100 megabit but it still would not reliably pass traffic.

The switch also has some fairly robust filtering capabilities for security purposes. In my case, I had them all turned off, but when I looked at port statistics on the ports that worked for me, it still showed about 20% of packets were being filtered. It did not indicate why, and I could not find a way to have it transmit all packets.

I replace it with another vendor's switch and everything worked perfectly again.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far very amazing

Pros: This is a great switch for the money. It can do almost every feature I ask it to including 802.1X port authentication.

Cons: CLI on this model is mainly just for show and password recovery (and changing the initiap ip address before you connect it to the network). This isn't much of a negative its more of a style thing. It just feels weird when you configure native vlans. I can't put my finger on it.

Other Thoughts: All in all for a sub 300 dollar switch I couldn't be happier. Will it replace a 3750 or ex4200 absolutely not. But it will replace an sg300 or an hp 1910.

5 out of 5 eggsAn Outstanding Value

Pros: GigE switches used to be expensive and, most-importantly if used in your house, NOISY. They were all fan-cooled and since they were thin, the fans were fast-rotating and sounded like a jet airplane, more or less.

This one is fanless -- meaning silent. It has Vlan capability, QOS and even guest access (authentication capability which, if it fails, can assign traffic to a "default" VLAN) which is very useful.

Management works, SNMP works, it just all works. The menu system is reasonably-understandable even for novices, but "it's all there" for experts. I had it set up and integrated into my partitioned network (internal and external) in under 15 minutes.

Oh, and the price is right too.

Has rack wings in the box along with rubber feet for tabletop use.

Rather nifty CPU monitor tells you how hard the switch is working, and so far despite pounding it pretty good I can't annoy it in terms of load, nor get it to misbehave.

Cons: One niggle -- there is no facility to name the ports that I can find. That's kind of a bummer as doing so is very handy. I would prefer the LEDs on the port jacks themselves instead of to the left (makes it easier to know which ports are linked and in what mode at a glance) but this is more of an aesthetic than functional thing.

No rack screws in the box; make sure you have the proper size if you're rack-mounting it. No printed manual either; you have to download it.

None of this is a big deal IMHO.

Other Thoughts: This little guy provides impressive performance for the money; it is a simply unbeatable value and the fanless design just adds to the attraction.

If you need a managed 24-port Gig-E switch it's darn hard to argue with the value for the money spent.

5 out of 5 eggsAMAZING!

Pros: Everything you need from a managed switch with the inclusion of remote web management!

Cons: None that I've found so far.

Other Thoughts: I own one of these already and will definitely be ordering another one when I have the money. This switch is listed as a smart switch but it is really a managed switch. Smart switches are normally listed between basic unmanaged and managed devices because they provide custom configuration via web interfaces and very little on the console side. This switch can be managed via both methods. Zyxel has also obviously gone through some serious planning on the layout and implementation of the web interface, as it is far better and way easier to navigate then any D-Link or HP switch I have dealt with so far. The menus are listed in a tiered style which makes it very easy to find and view things. If you're considering buying a new managed/smart switch then look no further. If you're still debating between this switch and its competitors then maybe you don't deserve such an amazing product!

5 out of 5 eggsStable Managed Switch

Pros: Good price, managed, full featured, built in power supply, metal case, stable.

Cons: Management interface could use some work. Wish it had lights on the ports instead of on the panel.

Other Thoughts: Been running 60 days with no hangs and no reboots. Two VPNs in use.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth every penny!

Pros: 1) Management interface isn't too clunky, seems like someone that had worked on networks before designed it, unlike the NETGEAR procrap line and all of the unmanaged garbage out there
2) Speeds are great, I haven't even enabled jumbo frames, or done any performance configuration yet and it has drastically improved speeds throughout my flat
3) Metrics all over the place, NTP, syslog, SNMP
4) Shipped in a carefully designed container, not trashed by the post

Cons: More of a peeve than a con, it comes configured at which is typically your router address when you leave your consumer hardware at its default network, otherwise, nothing yet

Other Thoughts: I got this for $200. That is a steal for a 10GbE capable managed switch. Try finding something like this elsewhere in a $400 range, good luck.

ZyXEL has really had a renaissance. They've stepped up the game all over the place.
