1 out of 5 eggsDidn't Work For Me???

Pros: Not too many pros unless you have a house with one circuit breaker, no power strips or surge protectors.

Cons: If you have a home with one circuit breaker and no power surge protected outlets, this unit might be good for you? For the rest of us who like to use surge protectors and have more than one circuit breaker in the home, maybe not so good? The unit came with a guide in Spanish only. The toll free phone number doesn't state their hours for tech service BUT will gladly tell you that ur the next in line for technical support? Finally when I did get a tech support person they couldn't understand why the IP address would become lost after the setup worked for 30 mins? This unit claims to be a repeating unit but it depends SOLEY on establishing a link thru AC wire lines. In my opinion, that is not a true repeating unit. You cannot set up the unit as a wireless repeater (I'm not sure why)? The unit seems to work only under ideal pristine conditions of no power strips, no surge protectors, and only being on the same circuit breaker (hello, most rooms are under different circuit breakers and for good safety reasons). I have a lot invested in my electronic computer equipment including my router so I use surge protection power strips. The manual says not to use a power strip so I guess this unit won't work for me.

Other Thoughts: I'm not sure why ZyXel would not have made this unit a true WiFi repeating unit? I bought the unit to extend my WiFi but it won't do that without what I see as perfect direct AC power conditions (no surge protectors, power strips and being on the same circuit breaker). It would have made more sense to have BOTH the ability to repeat over the air as a WiFi repeater. I find it strange that ZyXEL also sells another unit that repeats WiFi through the air as a repeater...for another nominal price.

1 out of 5 eggs  Useless

Pros: None. It doesn't work.

Cons: None. Poor documentation. If quick setup fails you have to turn to DVD to install utility that is just as confusing as it's PDF instructions. According to the instruction, my power line in the entire house are not connected if two devices fails to connect!!! What?! My cheap WD Livewire has no problem what so ever! I tried plugging the second device on different outlet throughout the house and the home plug light fails to connect every time!

I thought perhaps I need to update firm wear, silly...if device is not detected by laptop either. No connection, no internet, no update! Did they really test out this product before producing it?!

Other Thoughts: I should have take the previous 1-egg review and skipped on this product.

1 out of 5 eggsFaulty Firmware

Pros: Good throughput. Two Ethernet ports.

Cons: Installed the firmware from ZyXEL's website and it is really buggy. "Easy" config mode (the default) is stuck in a refresh loop and requires some effort to evade to enter "Expert" mode. Wireless channel configuration is ignored. If 20Mhz channel width is chosen, channel 1 is always used (regardless of setting). If 40Mhz channel width is chosen, channel 5 is always used. It is useless to have more than one of these if you can't change the channel. ZyXEL support was unhelpful. Refused to acknowledge the problems.

Other Thoughts: I bought two of these (both with the same issues) and a third powerline Ethernet adapter by ZyXEL based on experience with one of their firewalls. Not the best firewall, but great for the price. Apparently that was a fluke. I won't be buying ZyXEL again.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine so far

Pros: Super easy to set up. All our computers are on the second floor of our old house and we were connecting them through DSL. We recently installed U-verse, which gave us a router on the forst floor. I'm using the ZyXEL powerline devices to bring the ethernet signal up to our computers. Basically, I just plugged it in and it worked. I have it paired with a ZyXEL PLA4211 and the ethernet ports were connected immediately. I didn't even have to push any buttons. For the wiFi, I had to manually set the SSID and password, but that was because the main router didn't have WPS.

Cons: Runs a bit warm, but this hasn't been a problem so far.

Other Thoughts: It's important to have the powerline devices on the same leg of the electrical box. If you don't know what this means, consult an electrician. Otherwise, they may not connect well.
