Level up your office network to Gigabit speed with the ZyXEL GS1100-8HP-240W switch. This eight-port switch incorporates green technology and plug-and-play simplicity into a compact unit, making it a great solution for high-bandwidth network application. This switch also supports PoE+ (Power over Ethernet) technology which carries signal and power over a single cable. This significantly saves space, cost and installation time, especially when factoring in large-scale enterprise deployment.

  • newegg Gigabit Connectivity Provides up to 2000Mbps in Full Duplex mode to address bandwidth-intensive network applications.
  • newegg Green networking The GS1100-8HP-240W not only offers Gigabit Ethernet connectivity for next-generation network applications, but also power-saving functions for better energy efficiency. Capable of dynamically adjusting power output according to traffic, active links and cable length, the GS1100-8HP-240W can reduce energy consumption for lower operating costs.
  • newegg Freedom of installation via PoE The GS1100-8HP supports the IEEE 802.3at PoE Plus standard to ease the installation of network devices in challenging spaces such as ceilings or walls. The power supply of up to 30 watts per port allows the GS1100-8HP to power PoE-enabled WLAN APs, VoIP phones and IP surveillance cameras through CAT-5 cables of less than 100 meters (300 feet) in length. With the ZyXEL GS1100-8HP, there is no need for extra power adapters in installing PoE devices in difficult locations. This feature helps reduce installation time and cost when there are many such devices on the network.
  • newegg Compact Footprint The compact, rigid desktop size of the GS1100-8HP-240W is ideal for small- to medium workgroups, as it can be installed where space is limited.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Loud Switch

Pros: Plug and Play, Switch knows whether your using a Cross Over or Straight Through so no guessing, PoE on all ports.

Cons: Loud. I mean like a CPU fan on high. I understand this switch is meant for a rack but I wanted to let other buyers know ahead of time.

Other Thoughts: Not really a con but there is no on/off switch so you have to cut power to it in order to turn it off. Not a big deal but it cant be good for the board to lose power all of a sudden.

4 out of 5 eggsgood switch

Pros: This is a good unmanaged switch, it's fairly louder than it needs to be, but it's a 240w switch so really no surprise.

Cons: loud, I can hear it in another room with the door closed. Typical for a 240w switch...

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: Fast. Real powerhouse in the POE department. Fan-cooled power supply is internal, so it uses a real power cord, not a wall wart. Sturdy metal case. Separate indicator lights to show when a POE device is connected to a particular port.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: 240 watts from a box this small needs some forced-air cooling. Some might consider the fan a bit loud - indeed, you probably wouldn't want to install this in a living space. I have mine in a hall closet and the fan noise is barely audible when the closet door is closed.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: Lots of power. Powerful fan. Solid build. Able to operate in high temps.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: We have installed this into a large warehouse to handle the access control and camera system. Since this switch has 8 ports, 7 of them will be usable, powered ports, and 1 port will be the uplink. This switch has up to ~35W per port available.

Our switch is powering 4 Axis A1001 access controllers and one Axis P1427-E outdoor rated, 5MP camera. We will likely be adding a couple of more cameras to it before too long. The access controllers use ~12W, and the camera is using ~5W. So we don't need nearly as much as this unit can handle.

The number one feature of this unit for us is the environmental operating temp. Others have mentioned how loud the fan is. With that loudness comes cool running hardware which is what we needed. This switch is sitting on a shelf about 15ft above the floor, and about 2 feet from the warehouse ceiling. And we're also in Texas. The operating spec on this unit is 131 degrees F. I am anticipating that it may get into the 120's in the building up near the ceiling by the time summer rolls around. We haven't used it through the summer yet, so I can't yet attest to whether it will continue to perform well. If we have any issues, I will come back and update this later.

This unit is metal and feels very solid. I was impressed by the construction.

As a final comment, the Ethernet run from this unit to the camera is about 350ft. They say you should not run Ethernet longer than 300ft. But we are getting full bandwidth and full power to our camera from this switch.

Pros: Nice switch. Fits PoE needs just fine. Rackmountable.

Cons: Fan cooled, kind of noisy. Don't put in a living room or near a desk :)

Other Thoughts: *Ask ZyXEL for the rackmount kit for the ES1100-8HP-240W. Those rack ears will work.
*See the holes on the sides :)

The unit does NOT ship with rackmount ears. If you call ZyXEL, they don't have a clue in this case. (Honestly though, what vendor does have a clue, they are all too big and all too stupid to really know anything about their own stuff.)
*ZyXEL is supposed to start shipping these units with rack ears in the very near future. Up to this point, we've had to obtain the ears direct BUT they work!

3 out of 5 eggsSomewhat Disappointed...

Pros: Plenty of power for your POE needs, fast..

Cons: Not rack mountable -- not even as an option

Other Thoughts: I am Zyxel fan - all my networking gear is zyxel so when I ventured into a POE IP cameras I naturally looked for zyxel switch to power them. I thought i found the perfect switch -- plenty of power, front mounted ports, built in power supply.. perfect. on the pictures it has even the mounting holes for the mounting brackets exactly like the 16 port gigabit switch or the zywall firewalls...

...except that it doesn't come with mounting brackets, not even as an option. The casing is pre-drilled, but this is a desktop switch. Unless you make your own, you won't be able to adapt any existing brackets.

Contacted zyxel asking about the feasibility to adapt this rack mount option -- the answer I got is that I should have went with a higher model that is rack mountable. Yeah, zyxel products are generally well priced and a bargain compared to other brands but what does it really hurt to add 2 brackets to make this switch rack mountable? Seriously zyxel?
