2 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: ZyXEL X650 Dual-Band Wireless AC1200 Gigabit Router

Pros: Dos protection and other great features

Cons: The broadcast range on this is so limited it barely reaches 15 feet away on the 5ghz less for the 2.4 bands. Slow connection as well.

3 out of 5 eggsFlawed router

This review is from: ZyXEL X650 Dual-Band Wireless AC1200 Gigabit Router

Pros: Reasonably priced when on sale.
Decent coverage.
Good speeds.

Cons: There are 2 flaws I've seen:
1. The main issue with this router is that I'm unable to turn on security and maintain 802.11.n/ac. Anytime I turn on security, it drops the speeds to 802.11.g on the 2.4 and 802.11.a on the 5ghz. That is unacceptable. The way around it for me is to turn on Access Control Lists but I don't like doing that.
2. The Firmware update didn't seem to do anything and the interface is slow, clunky.

Other Thoughts: As a home router, I can live with this since I'm currently living alone and have a limited number of devices. Otherwise, it can be a pain to have to maintain ACL for every device that could potentially need access. ZyXel needs to fix this.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

This review is from: ZyXEL X650 Dual-Band Wireless AC1200 Gigabit Router

Pros: Easy to set up. Interface is not the greatest but still has easy set up control to let get you through all of the basics. Great speeds. PS3 and computer run on 2.4GHz and phones runs on the 5GHz.

Cons: I kept losing the connection between my computer and router. Sometimes i would have to refresh or hit the back button to get out.

Other Thoughts: Must have some networking/computer experience to use this product.
I had to do a little troubleshooting at first to get everything set up correctly.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent..Cheapest 802.11ac Router

This review is from: ZyXEL X650 Dual-Band Wireless AC1200 Gigabit Router

Pros: -Cheap, got it half price with Newegg short deal coupon.

-Full 100+Mbps Internet speed on 5GHz for both 802.11n and 802.11AC on both my laptop and my phone which support the 5GHz band, link speed is 300-433Mbps

Good Speed and Signal on 2.4GHz, link speed is hovering between 230-300Mbps

Cons: Signal power could be stronger for both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz, probably because it only has 2 antennas, really can't complain considering the cheap price.

Signal is not weak by any means though, it just could be stronger

Other Thoughts: Coming from D-Link DIR-655, which is a great router but showing its age now.

I am not sure why everybody is complaining about the interface of the this device, it is VERY easy and right to the point and self explanatory.

Does it really need to be pretty interface to make you happy? Then go buy a $200+ router.

For me it is simple and useful..I like it..no complains.

Great router and great value for money, I can finally get maximum internet speed through wireless

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointing

This review is from: ZyXEL X650 Dual-Band Wireless AC1200 Gigabit Router

Pros: Dual Band WiFi with gigabit ports.

Cons: Only 4 LAN ports, awkward interface. Disappointing- failed to reset to defaults when reset button was pressed. Now a paperweight. Looking forward to the rarely needed NewEgg easy RMA. MCSE, MCP CCNA, Server+ and I can't get the frikkin thing to work.

Other Thoughts: I started using ZyXel ASDSL routers in 2003 and loved them. I was excited to find they had expanded their product line. When I bought their RAID NAS enclosure and it never worked I assumed that their networking products would still be great. They are not.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: ZyXEL X650 Dual-Band Wireless AC1200 Gigabit Router

Pros: Very good wireless speed. After testing i replaced my old router with this router. The router once configured properly does work best of its performance

Cons: User interface sucks and very bad they have to replace it with much friendly one for the end users. Very poor manual instructions

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

This review is from: ZyXEL X650 Dual-Band Wireless AC1200 Gigabit Router

Pros: works great, amazing price(I guess it's cheap because the brand is not as well known). no problems so far. selected 3-7 business day shipping. package arrived the next day.
i've owned about 6 routers, with one previous one being zyxel as well. I had very positive experiences with my previous zyxel router. It never let me down, so I jumped on this as soon as I saw it was on sale. This one works great so far for all my needs- one tablet, 3 cell phone, 3 computer household.

Cons: it's too cheap, makes me think something should be wrong. so far nothing though.
What would make this a killer deal would be DD-WRT compatible and some USB ports. but that's not a real complaint given the price.

4 out of 5 eggsEasy Cofiguration

This review is from: ZyXEL X650 Dual-Band Wireless AC1200 Gigabit Router

Pros: Easy to configure

Cons: brand name

Other Thoughts: The brand is unknown to a lot of clients, but this little unit was easy for every technician who set it up and purrs like a top.

3 out of 5 eggsRecommended Only For The Adventurous or Talented

This review is from: ZyXEL X650 Dual-Band Wireless AC1200 Gigabit Router

Pros: - Good 802.11AC radio compatibility
- Good line of sight throughput
- Good value
- Gigabit Ports
- Decent Stability
- Impressive Firewall functionality and design

Cons: - Uninspired packaging and chassis design
- English Translation oversights with manual, quick reference and UI
- Mediocre signal strength and range
- UI is dated and clunky to navigate

Other Thoughts: This router is recommended for consumers with a more in-depth understanding of networking. It does feels like an evolutionary step behind it's competition though. When using 2x2 AC compatible adapters on the 5Ghz antenna in AC/N mixed mode, older N devices are getting lower than normal throughput. My testing revealed that this router is best performance-wise with line of sight communication.

Overall, this is a fun enthusiast wireless router with a lot of neat firewall features like flood detection/protection, DoS/DDoS protection, and granular IGMP that will go unnoticed by a vast majority of users.

Signal leaves a lot to be desired. It's effective range for high bandwidth setups is not that great..if you are 150 feet away from the router, do not expect AC speeds. If you are 10 feet away with a fast internet uplink, then it'll perform admirably.

This would be a great home router for a geek. Zyxel has some really impressive mid-level and enterprise equipment and you can see where it gets it's inspiration from. I can definitely see where is unit could potentially frustrate people with less industry experience. If you want to get your feet wet with 802.11AC,

5 out of 5 eggsRunning smooth

This review is from: ZyXEL X650 Dual-Band Wireless AC1200 Gigabit Router

Pros: I have had been using this router for about a month now. Since getting it for doing an Eggxpert Review

After a month of use, the router is having absolutely no issues. It has ran longer without problem than any router I can remember, and never has even needed rest.

Firmware was easy to update. This router which already features practically every software feature available on a router today did not get any new features, but I am sure it probably has basic errors fixed which were not even noticeable.

I have now made use of the port forwarding option and firewall blocking options that i did not test before.

Port Forwarding was quick and simple to set up, and functioned without any issue what so ever. The simplest I have ever seen for implementing this feature.

Blocking sites by giving the device a tabooed word or IP also worked perfectly and refused to allow me to any sites that contained the tabooed word.

Cons: As others have mentioned, it is a little pricey, and I do wish it had USB ports, which is becoming a fairly standard feature anymore.

Other Thoughts: Overall, this router is working perfectly and performing exactly as it should. it does everything I need. The mark of a good network device is that it works without ever needing worked with or thought about, and this device does that with plenty of extra features.

It is an excellent device and I am sure that I will have it in use somewhere for many years to come. For more information, please see my previous review.
