1 out of 5 eggsPoor signal, constant crashes

This review is from: ZyXEL X650 Dual-Band Wireless AC1200 Gigabit Router

Pros: Looked cool. Works well if your devices are in the same room... External antenna was easy to position.

Gigabit ports? I'm really trying...

Cons: Constantly crashed- most likely due to subpar firmware. Very limted features.

Signal strength on both bands 2.5 and 5Ghz were disappointing.

3 out of 5 eggsYou get what you pay for

This review is from: ZyXEL X650 Dual-Band Wireless AC1200 Gigabit Router

Pros: Cheap and relatively easy to set up.

Cons: Weak signal strength. Even when I'm sitting in the same room, my phone says the signal is only fair. Devices in other rooms suffer from poor bandwidth or continually drop the connection. I could also never get WPS to work.

Other Thoughts: The UI is a little clunky and hard to understand, but it's not terrible.

3 out of 5 eggsThere's better options, but in a pinch....

This review is from: ZyXEL X650 Dual-Band Wireless AC1200 Gigabit Router

Pros: dual band AC router
Decent throughput when in close proximity.
Essentially got this item free in a bundle.

Cons: Range is much worse than my el-cheapo TP LINK Wireless N router

Other Thoughts: I'm not going to go on about all the features this model has, merely give you my impressions.

It's good enough for my main floor on a 1300 Sft home, but won't really reach into the garage which is <40 feet from the router.

No real bones to pick with this thing. It does have some nice options on it, but if you're in a big house, you might want to look elsewhere.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat little router

This review is from: ZyXEL X650 Dual-Band Wireless AC1200 Gigabit Router

Pros: I'm using this router exclusively as an access point, so I can't comment on its routing performance. In AP mode it's been rock solid, fast, and not required a single reboot. The range is pretty good and it can also function as a wireless bridge, which is a nice, unexpected bonus on a unit this cheap.

Cons: * No DHCP client in AP mode; must be configured with a static IP address.
* No way to specify a gateway to reach external NTP servers, and fails to query a local NTP server on the LAN.
* No way to manually set time, so the router thinks it's 1970.
* Non-detachable antennas.

Other Thoughts: Idles at ~3.5 watts.

2 out of 5 eggsdon't buy very incompatable

This review is from: ZyXEL X650 Dual-Band Wireless AC1200 Gigabit Router

Pros: OK speed. Cheap for ac. Interface is deep

Cons: literally had to switch cable modems cuz it was just incompatible with it. Got a networking degree. Spent hours
Firmware upgrades, static ip. Nothing. New modem instant dhcp. Is not compatible with Xbox one, never find ip address. Range is ok. complex interface. 2.4 faster than 5 < 15 feet

2 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work for 5 GHz 802.11n

This review is from: ZyXEL X650 Dual-Band Wireless AC1200 Gigabit Router

Pros: It is inexpensive router that could support 802.11ac

Cons: I want to configure this router to work on 5 GHz 802.11n since I haven't had an 802.11ac client. I tried configuring the setting to (n) or (a+n) or (n+ac). All these setting will connect my clients to 802.11a which doesn't have fast network speed. I tried to use MacBook Pro and my PC to connect. The results were the same. I have been trying to ask ZyXEL for help. It would take a long time for ZyXEL to response. So I think I will return this router before newegg's 30 day return policy expired.

2 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: ZyXEL X650 Dual-Band Wireless AC1200 Gigabit Router

Pros: Dos protection and other great features

Cons: The broadcast range on this is so limited it barely reaches 15 feet away on the 5ghz less for the 2.4 bands. Slow connection as well.

3 out of 5 eggsFlawed router

This review is from: ZyXEL X650 Dual-Band Wireless AC1200 Gigabit Router

Pros: Reasonably priced when on sale.
Decent coverage.
Good speeds.

Cons: There are 2 flaws I've seen:
1. The main issue with this router is that I'm unable to turn on security and maintain 802.11.n/ac. Anytime I turn on security, it drops the speeds to 802.11.g on the 2.4 and 802.11.a on the 5ghz. That is unacceptable. The way around it for me is to turn on Access Control Lists but I don't like doing that.
2. The Firmware update didn't seem to do anything and the interface is slow, clunky.

Other Thoughts: As a home router, I can live with this since I'm currently living alone and have a limited number of devices. Otherwise, it can be a pain to have to maintain ACL for every device that could potentially need access. ZyXel needs to fix this.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

This review is from: ZyXEL X650 Dual-Band Wireless AC1200 Gigabit Router

Pros: Easy to set up. Interface is not the greatest but still has easy set up control to let get you through all of the basics. Great speeds. PS3 and computer run on 2.4GHz and phones runs on the 5GHz.

Cons: I kept losing the connection between my computer and router. Sometimes i would have to refresh or hit the back button to get out.

Other Thoughts: Must have some networking/computer experience to use this product.
I had to do a little troubleshooting at first to get everything set up correctly.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent..Cheapest 802.11ac Router

This review is from: ZyXEL X650 Dual-Band Wireless AC1200 Gigabit Router

Pros: -Cheap, got it half price with Newegg short deal coupon.

-Full 100+Mbps Internet speed on 5GHz for both 802.11n and 802.11AC on both my laptop and my phone which support the 5GHz band, link speed is 300-433Mbps

Good Speed and Signal on 2.4GHz, link speed is hovering between 230-300Mbps

Cons: Signal power could be stronger for both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz, probably because it only has 2 antennas, really can't complain considering the cheap price.

Signal is not weak by any means though, it just could be stronger

Other Thoughts: Coming from D-Link DIR-655, which is a great router but showing its age now.

I am not sure why everybody is complaining about the interface of the this device, it is VERY easy and right to the point and self explanatory.

Does it really need to be pretty interface to make you happy? Then go buy a $200+ router.

For me it is simple and useful..I like it..no complains.

Great router and great value for money, I can finally get maximum internet speed through wireless
