4 out of 5 eggspowerline

Pros: fair price on sale. connects and sets up connection faster to router/modem.

1 to 2 mbps speed upgrade with av2 technology over first gen powerline networking. gets warm but it has a vented design.

eco/green mode. green leds are not blinding. they are at perfect lumination.

Cons: like other reviewers have stated, this unit blocks a plug in your outlet. this is the worst part about the unit. that is a make or break in deciding to buy this.

Other Thoughts: had an older zyxel unit in the past that died in about half a year. I hope this one is more reliable.

5 out of 5 eggsZyXel AV600 - These are amazing

Pros: These are the best powerline adpaters I've ever used, but you have to understand my set up. The unit near the router is located in the far side bedroom and must travel the length of the house to reach the interior electrical panel. It must go through that panel, and get to the exterior main breaker panel. It leaves there and travels 125 feet to my detached workshop. These are the only powerline adapters that are stable with this distance and difficulty. Others have worked for a day or so, but I've been going for a week and a half now with no issues at all. The LED flashes red which means that it's not the best connection but it has remained connected the entire time. Speeds of between 9-10 mbps with my internet speed being only 15. Considering the distance, I find this to be acceptable without question. Able to stream without buffering.

Cons: As others have stated, these are large adapters. If you have a three-prong plug above the adapter then it will not fit. If it's a two-prong, then it should fit. That's the only con for me.

Other Thoughts: This is my third set of adapters and these are by far the best. If you are trying to reach a detached building on your property, then you should give these a try. If you are using inside the same house, these should be perfect.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks through circuit breakers

Pros: These work as advertised, an excellent way to extend your network in the home. Even though I am using it with the signal passing through 2 circuit breakers I'm getting speed tests at or above my broadband speeds and that's all I care about.

The huge issue for me while doing research was that the manufacturer recommends that both units be on the same breaker (AC or mains circuit) in your home. That's a non-starter for me, generally only the outlets in one room are on the same AC circuit, I don't need help connecting devices that are in the same room, my wifi works for that obviously!

Still I decided to give it a try after reading that passing through breakers will only slow down the throughput. So I am sure I'm nowhere near the rated 600MPbs but I don't care - my broadband is much slower than that and I don't care about speed between devices in my home. FYI my home was built in the late '80s in the USA. I have read that the type of breaker makes a difference, mine might be more or less friendly with powerline networking than others.

Cons: As many have mentioned the adapter is too bulky to allow you to plug in a 3-prong cord above it in the same outlet.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent product

Pros: Simple setup, works very well and frees up your wireless bandwidth for cell phones and tablets.
I have been using the 500 mbs Zyxel units for the past four years. None have ever failed. Throughput definitely depends on the home's age and wiring.
I am in a 15 year old home now. I unplugged my 500 mbs unit connected to my router and plugged in this new unit. It was plug and play giving me three greens meaning an over 80 mb/sec connection to my older units. Compatibility was flawless. Next I replaced an older unit with one of these connected to an 8 port GB unmanaged switch. This switch is carrying an IP camera at 30 FPS HD resolution and streaming MLB.TV in HD flawlessly. Again, it was plug and play, a good connection and more stable than wireless 2.4 or 5 ghz bands.

Cons: None that I know of, but I do not think you will get 600 MBS. But you can be happy with over 80 plus freeing up your router's wireless throughput, get them.

Other Thoughts: My internet connection at my router with speedtest is 115 mbs down, 15 mbs up. Connected to my PC on the switch as described above with 2 IP cameras also going, I was able to measure 31 MB/sec down and 11 MB/sec up with this adapter. That is more than enough for handling streaming video, netflix, gaming etc. And the throughput is always more stable than wifi.
So, for the price, these are great in my opinion.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Truly plug and play. Plug it in and it works. The pass-thru outlet make this much more convenient than other models. I used this put my router and computer in a different room from the cable modem. I couldn't move the modem because the cable guy only put the cable in one room.

Cons: There's not a lot of clearance at the top so the top outlet in a 2-position wall socket is partially obscured. A small plug (like a lamp) will have no problem but larger plug that uses the grounding prong won't fit.

Other Thoughts: There was no detectible slow-down but my cable speed is only 60Mb so even a 90% data loss would still be unnoticeable. I would have chosen a 300Mb model (or less) but this was the only one with a pass-through outlet.

5 out of 5 eggsReview Revised

Pros: Once I found out the issues I was having it was plug and play.
I wrote a previous review and I found out that all the plugs that I tried just weren't on the same circuit until the last one that I tried. All is working great now. Pretty much doubled the speeds I was getting on wifi.

Cons: none anymore.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Powers on

Cons: I don't usually write review on things, but these were so bad that I had to. I bought these expecting them to work. Plugging them in I did notice that the LAN light and power light came on. I never got the light to come on that said they were communicating. When I noticed this I decided to let them sit there for a little while to see if they would talk. They never did, I let them sit for 30 Minutes.

Other Thoughts: I contact customer support for this company and I am currently waiting for a response. If I can get this working I will bump it up a few eggs, but until then. I am sorely disappointed with this product. I was looking at RMAing this but it was going to take essentially half of what I spent on it in the first place just to get half of my money back. Not worth my time.

4 out of 5 eggsWorked great right out of the box

Pros: 1. Plug and play functionality - All I had to do is plug two of the units in to the power outlets, connect one of them to the modem/router and the other one to the computer. my computer was connected to the network in less than 3 minutes.

2. I got very good network speed - speedtest confirmed that there was no noticable difference in upload/download speed.

Cons: 1. Bulky - if you plug in one of the units into a power outlet, the other outlet can not be used with a three-prong plug as the box overlaps the ground. It may be a tight fit for some two prong plugs but in most cases, it would work. However there was no benefit of pass through outlet as I could still utilize only one outlet on the wall.

2. Encryption downgrades the speed, The indicator light was green (> 80 mbps connection per manual) before setting up the encryption, which turned amber (20-60 mbps per manual).
It was still possible to stream HD videos without any issues.

Other Thoughts: If you are setting up the encryption, Press "Encrypt" button for two seconds and release. Wait for a second or two before the unit actually starts the process and displays the blinking light. If you continue to press the "Encrypt" button and wait for the light to blink, you will end up pressing it for more than 3 seconds and depending on the length of time you hold the button, you will end up with different results like disconnecting the device from the network or resetting to factory settings.

Remember - Press "encrypt" for two seconds and release. Light will start blinking after a moment indicating the encryption process is on. Repeat the same on the unit to be paired and give it a minute or two to complete the process.

If it does not work, plug the two units into the same extension cord, connect them to modem and computer respectively and retry.

2 out of 5 eggsNot Impressed

Pros: Price

Cons: Attained nowhere near advertised speeds. Worked worse than the wireless router I got to replace it. Was so slow Netflix was un usable on the TV it was connected to. Tried several outlets near the router. Still had horrible speeds by speed test. 20mb/s down and 1mb/s up.

Other Thoughts: I have other powerline adapters that I use for internet phone. They worked fine and I 've had them for years. I was hoping these would be an upgrade. A waste of money.
