5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Router: one of the easiest to set up that I've come across. Nice touch to put the setup software on a flash drive.

Pros: Easy to install; easy to configure.

Cons: Difficult to reset when you forget your password. But that's not their fault...

Other Thoughts: Would like to know an easy way to reset to factory specs... having forgot my password, I cannot get it to wipe clean.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good

Pros: Good signal, not too hard to set up.

Cons: Valet "key" mysteriously stopped working months after I bought the router. It's as if the files were erased - bad memory stick? I was able to log into the router manually, but the memory stick feature shouldn't be advertised if it doesn't work.

Right after I initially set it up I had some internet connectivity "hanging" issues. Pages would indicate that they were loading but would stay that way for over a minute. There was some security setting that was causing this, disabling it fixed the issue.

Blue blinking lights on top of the device are not welcome at night in my studio apt.

1 out of 5 eggsLoses wi-fi signal frequently

Pros: Easy setup with USB key. Also easy to access settings via the web interface. Good range.

Cons: Began to lose the wi-fi signal frequently. Takes about a 60-90 seconds for it to reestablish itself. After updating firmare and trying the various other tweaks found in online forums for this problem, I gave up and replaced this unit with a new one. Guess what? After a couple of weeks, it started doing the same thing.

Other Thoughts: I've just ordered a different brand of wireless router. I'm done with Cisco and Linksys. This is apparently a huge issue, as a Google search on this model will illustrate.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked good initially

Pros: Quick easy setup, cheap price.

Cons: Not reliable at all. For the first few months this router worked great, All the wifi connections where astounding. As of November last year the wifi connections drop off an on constantly. There are ton of people on the cisco forums with the exact same issue with this model router. No fix or new firmware, looks like possible abandoned product support.

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for, I saw cisco branding and read a few reviews of this router and though it was a great buy given cisco reliability in the past. Now I wish I had gone with a more expensive d-link wifi router.

2 out of 5 eggsNeeds frequent reboots

Pros: Fairly easy to set up. Good price for features. Gigabit wired ports.

Cons: Seems to need too-frequent reboots, especially for handheld devices. Our Nook, Kindle Fire, and Android phones have difficulty connecting to it at times until I reboot it. Sometimes I have to power cycle it to get its full attention. This is after making DHCP reservations for all our devices to avoid potential IP conflicts. I'm not too bummed given the price I paid but routers shouldn't be an annual purchase. I went Cisco after my previous Netgear went insane after a year, but the previous Netgear lasted me until I wanted to go Wireless-N.

Problem isn't heat-related as it's in a 66-degree basement with plenty of ventilation.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks for what I need...

Pros: For a gigabit, this is one of the most inexpensive routers I found. Works for what I need it for.

Cons: No instruction manual. The "easy setup key" is a joke. Dont even bother with it. If you can, just get on the internet and download the firmware/software that way, the setup key will just make things last a lot longer than needed.

The range isnt the greatest, but then again, my house isnt huge, so it works for what I need it too.

3 out of 5 eggsAverage

Pros: It can be patched with DD-WRT

Cons: It looses signal a lot, ( granted there is a lot of wifi in my area so that may be why due to its low transmitting power but my old router worked just fine ), just didnt have the 1Gbps ports.

Other Thoughts: It just didn't work up to my expectations, but I feel that it shouldn't be an issue for most people looking for a cheap affordable router.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Inexpensive and works as expected

Cons: Nothing serious

Other Thoughts: I bought this for a school to use as a special WAP and not as a router. The intention was to set it up for guest mode to allow visitors and presenters to access the internet only. However, guest mode is only available if used as a router. That was the only disappointment with it so it loses one egg.

2 out of 5 eggsCisco Valet M20 Plus

Pros: Gigabit ethernet

Cons: Had to RMA 1st one because Wireless connections were very erratic, and slow. Wireless works fair on replacement except usually get a max of 164 Mbps (Got 300Mbbs for a while, but not anymore). Range not great. Power cord too short. Setup key has never worked. Just not the kind of router I could fall in love with.

Other Thoughts: I bought this mostly because I wanted the Gigabit Lan capability and the "N" speed was a plus. The Gigabit LAN works very good. I rarely use wireless unless I'm working on a laptop which isn't very often, so I can live with the wireless inadequacies. I certainly wouldn't buy another one of these even at the very good price that I paid. I'm disappointed, but would be very disappointed if I had paid the regular price.
