1 out of 5 eggsDoes Not Work

Pros: * Looks Good
*Sturdy Build

Cons: * Does not allow the USB side to be connected to an external storage device.
*Does not allow the USB side to be connected to a Monitor.
*Does not allow the USB side to be connected to a Television.
*Does not allow the USB side to be connected to a router.
* Device only works when the USB side is connected to a computer for which the software and drivers are downloaded.
* I could not get communication between two PCs through either a ethernet LAN, or by direct connection when only one of the PCs had the software and drivers resident on it.

Other Thoughts: I bought this USB 3.0 to Ethernet adapter to allow me to use a 4Tb External HDD which had a USB 3.0 port as a Network backup drive on my Ethernet LAN. I thought that it would act much like the Display Port to HDMI adapter I use very successfully. The product description seemed to indicate it would work for this main application. It does not.

The adapter requires that software and drivers be downloaded to any device connected to the adapter. Please be aware of this if you are considering this. It does not state that in the product description.

Since the software and drivers can not be resident, or accessed on an external HDD (You would need a NAS or Server for this), a router (a commercially available one - not homemade with an OS), a monitor, or a Television, this device will not work when the USB side is connected to these devices. I tried all these configurations so I know that is true. These are all perfectly reasonable functions I would expect to be able to use this adapter for and they do NOT work.

I contacted Siig through their e-mail support. The support people I contacted have poor English communication skills and, as a consequence, it required several different e-mail communications before my problem was understood by Siig. They then stated that the software and drivers had to be present on any device connected to the USB side of the adapter.

Since I was never able to establish communication to any other device through this adapter and Ethernet, even when the USB side was connected to a Laptop with resident software and drivers, I cannot state what speed this device allows.

The device may be defective but I do not think so, based on my communications with Siig and the fact that the device has indicator LED's which light up appropriately when the USB side is connected to a computer with software and drivers downloaded.

I cannot recommend this device to anyone. I am disappointed that it has such limited and poor functionality. Please read this post carefully and assess whether this adapter will work for you before purchasing.

5 out of 5 eggsSIIG JU-NE0411-S1 USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet Network Adapter

Pros: I have a netbook that does not have an Ethernet port on it. The netbook came with a usb 2 adapter but it only has speeds of (5-10)mb/s. With this usb 3 one I get speeds of (60-135)mb/s depending on the size of file I am transferring. I have a nas hdd and need speeds faster that the wireless port can offer (3-6)mb/s on the computer. I only use this network adapter when I am loading a large file from the nas (8gb+).

Cons: Price I paid $30.99 for this. I would like it to be $15 or so but it's usb 3 so it's gonna be expensive for now.

Other Thoughts: solid construction metal in top with plastic sides.
