The Zoom model 58010011 let your standard analog telephone make and receive calls over a broadband internet connection. Just plug a regular phone into the adapter and that adapter into a broadband-connected router or internet gateway, and you’re off and talking! This versatile adapter supports the standard Session Initiation Protocol (SIPv2) and works with a wide variety of service providers and equipment. It also offers an FXS and an FXO port, and allows calls to be bridged between the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and the Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP).

The 58010011 also gives you the TelePort , a relay allowing a single phone to place and receive calls over both networks. PSTN fail-over automatically routes calls over the dial-up phone network when power is lost, and supports emergency dialing like 911. You get all the features you’ve come to expect: Call Waiting, Caller ID, Call Transfer, Hold and even Voice Message indicators.

Unique features let you manipulate the quality of your incoming call to enhance listenability and improve sound reception. The Zoom 58010011 is a talented and innovative piece of equipment bringing the convenience of VoIP into your standard phone system, saving you time and money!

4 out of 5 eggsWorks, with some work

Pros: It works!

Cons: Thanks only to my VoIP providers "equipment config list" was I able to find the correct SIP settings. Several critical fields setting were not shown in my providers setup page -- for the Zoom 5100. I'm a bonafide software engr. -- and this was hard work!

Finally, I found that one field I had guesstimated -- "use outbound proxy server" should've been disabled. It's easy to say you need your VoIP support to get this thing to work -- but really it's just the new parameters in the setup that haven't been documented by my provisder yet that cause the trouble.

Other Thoughts: I spent 3 hours on the setup -- and I know what I'm doing. This is not for novice users. But well worth the headache if your save alot with VoIP calls. Now by Looking back at the documentation -- I can see where Zoom tried to explain it all -- but my Voip provider had documented an older screen interface.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat product

Pros: Works.
If my cable modem and router are on - just pick up the phone and call whenever your VOIP provider provide you better rates.
Setting for 4 different VOIP providers, in case some of them offer free calls to country A and another free calls to country B

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I don't need phone line at all, since I use cable internet. But it is convenient to use my old Panasonic make phone calls anywhere in the US and several other countries free of charge.
The only cons is I didn't find so far a way to get FREE calls back. Didn't find the way to get FREE phone number.
But as long as I already have my cell for incoming calls, it is ok with me. And this is a great unit for it's price.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Inexpensive and unlocked.

Cons: Does not reboot if it doesn't like the settings, end up having to do hard reboots until I find the problematic setting. Echo cancellation isn't always effective. The web interface could use a lot of improvement.

4 out of 5 eggsOkay but not too impressive

Pros: Relatively inexpensive. Can do some simple bridging. Read the manual and reviews on the internet before you try to use this for bridging to make sure it will work for you.

Cons: Caller ID gets doubled 1's at the start. e.g. 116015551212
Web UI is ugly and is very technical. Help on technical settings is limited.

Other Thoughts: Hooked this up to a friends Asterisk SIP server. Worked fine.
