The Amped Wireless High Power Wireless-300N Smart Repeater expands the range of your 802.11b/g/n wireless network by repeating the signal from your home or office wireless router and redistributing it in a new "extended" location. Computers, game consoles, networked Blu-ray players, televisions and other networked devices can then connect to the Smart Repeater using Wi-Fi or a wired connection (up to 5 ports available) to access the extended network. The Smart Repeater eliminates wireless dead zones, extends wireless and wired network coverage, and is compatible with most brands of models of 2.4GHz 802.11b/g/n wireless routers.

3 out of 5 eggsBig speed penalty

Pros: Reasonably easy to set up.
Small - takes up little space
Setup instructions very clear and easy to follow

Cons: I did a few speedtest.net tests from the same position on my couch where I have full strength signal from both my home router (20 ft away, through a couple of walls) and the Amped Wireless extender (15 feet away, clear line-of-sight). I only get 20% of my normal network speed on my 2.4 GHz radio.

Other Thoughts: I guess having 20% of your network speed is better than no signal at all, but I really expected more based on all the positive reviews. I can't understand all the 4-egg and 5-egg reviews. This is a 3-egg at best, and that's being kind because it was easy to setup.

1 out of 5 eggslocked up in let than a year

Pros: Small form factor

Cons: worked right at first, after less than one year it stopped working. I couldn't reset it.

Other Thoughts: currently trying to submit a RMA request. I will repost after I find out if they will allow me to return it.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: It provides a nice range about 20-30 ft extra for wireless.

Cons: The setup part was a bit confused. The worst part would be dropping your internet speed by 10th fold. The speed test for my main router (wires/wireless) shows 120-140mb/sec. With this device speed test only shows 2-10mb/sec regardless of your distance from it. RMA was processed.

Other Thoughts: If you want a dial up speed for extra range, go for it.

2 out of 5 eggs50/50

Pros: It does the job as its description by amping your wireless range by 20-50ft.

Cons: The setup part was a nightmare. Moreover, it drop the speed by 10 fold. When using wire or wireless, the speed test shows 120mb/sec with the main router. With this device, it shows at around 3-5mb/sec download rate, tested by both wired and wireless.

1 out of 5 eggsWorks well... when it does...

Pros: Great reviews, so I have high hopes thatunre I've improperly set this up.

Cons: Worked wonderfully for the first week. Then I was having to reset it every couple of days, for internet. Now, even after resetting, I'm not getting network access(no homegroup), much less internet...

Other Thoughts: This product gets one egg for working as well as it did. It looses four for being a piece of plastic which sucks up my electricity without working for it.

1 out of 5 eggsNo Improvement

Pros: None

Cons: Range was less than my Verizon issued router.

Other Thoughts: Save yourself the headaches, look for a PoE option to expand your network. My 70yr old house still puts thru 80meg over power.

1 out of 5 eggsutter garbage

Pros: nothing..

Cons: my connection with this is SLOWER than connecting directly to my router across my house

Other Thoughts: I bought this to improve my connection speed. I have two computers in my house, one is on the other side and gets weak signal strength from the router (2 bars). When I set this up, I was getting 4 bars. I even did a speed test to confirm it was working. The speed test showed i was getting a better connection via the r epeater, but when I started downloading games from Steam, I was steady at 91KB/s.. when I connected back directly to the router, I was in between 700KB/s and 1.2MB/s... this router is garbage, and now I have to take a 10% hit for a refund.

Manufacturer Response:

James,
We apologize for the trouble you have experienced with our extender. This units are designed to extend the range of your WIFI network not increase the speed. However as with any Wi-Fi product, the further out the signal travels the slower the speed will be. Range extenders do not have the ability to receive the signal from the router, and transmit the information to your devices at the same time. Because of this, you may experience some slower speeds. If you are experiencing speed issues that you feel are more extreme than what we have described it could be a number of issue including the channel you are transmitting in or a bad radio function. Please call our tech support line at 888-573-8820 so that we can assist you with your issue.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks OK, at last

Pros: Excellent Hardware. Firmware got better over time. Initial installation seemed fairly easy, but if you stray from the path . . .

Cons: Poor DHCP server performance, sparse documentation. Short power cord. Antennas and ethernet jacks on same panel seems to be not such a good RF design.

Other Thoughts: I bought this for a second home, shared internet with my neighbor, also a vacation home. So, it's a bit of a challenge for signal strength which runs 50-60%. Reliability improved with firmware revisions, eventually it would run for 3-4 days without rebooting.
Then, I installed a wifi thermostat, it would stay online for a day or two then a few days later hook up again and disconnect in a matter of hours. I believe I resolved all this by setting the SR300 to client DHCP, and using my router to assign all IP numbers linked to the device MAC address. With the entire paragraph of DHCP mode instructions, I did all this by guess and by gosh. The Amped Wireless forums helped a bit, but the standard answer is always "Set a Static IP number". Seems to be working now, next time I'm a few hundred miles away and want to turn my furnace on I'll find out.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Does what it is supposed to do, just not well. Easy, almost painless set up.

Cons: After about a month, there is a significant drop in performance. You put it within the recommended range from the original wifi router and do speed tests on it, there is a huge drop in download speed. My current speed with wired connection is around 30 mbps and wireless I've peaked around 20 mbps. With this repeater, I'm only getting around 2 mbps. If I do a wired connection to this repeater, I'd get roughly 12 mbps download speed with inconsistent connection. Simply put, it won't do the job well.

Other Thoughts: Router is downstairs. Repeater is upstairs. The signal strength is around 80% between the router and the repeater (within the recommended 70% strength).

Manufacturer Response:
