The Amped Wireless High Power Wireless-N Pro Smart Repeater expands the range of your wireless network by repeating the signal from your home or office wireless access point or router. With a high power 600mW power amplifier and a high gain bi-directional antenna, the SR600EX is capable of repeating networks up to 1.5 miles away. The Pro Smart Repeater features a weatherproof outdoor/indoor enclosure with desktop, wall and pole mounting options. The Pro Smart Repeater features 2 network ports for connecting additional PCs, network switches and other devices. The SR600EX is great for covering large areas and buildings, indoor or outdoor, with strong, fast, extended W-Fi coverage.

Note: To achieve wireless range of up to 1.5 miles, it is necessary to use Amped Wireless Pro Series products together with line of sight: SR600EX – Pro Repeater, AP600EX – Pro Access Point and/or UA600EX – Pro USB Adapter. Indoor performance will be limited by the wireless environment and will not reach up to 1.5 miles.

1 out of 5 eggsdoesn't work as advertised

Pros: nice design, PoE so it can be remotely mounted

Cons: The manufacturer needs to redesign the box so they can have room for the fine print. I do not remember seeing this was designed for a point-to-point network. I did see a claim for up to 1.5 miles though tech support told me last night that wasn't possible without using their AP600EX and high-gain yagi antennas. Can you say "false advertising"?? Stick to companies like EnGenius. They have been making quality long-range wireless gear for years.

Other Thoughts: Newegg was a great source for this and other products. too bad i was in a hurry and did not read all the negative reviews.

Manufacturer Response:

Up-And-Running,
We apologize for the confusion on the functionality of the SR600EX. In order to use that unit for long range connections, it does require that it is used with another Pro Series device otherwise you will be limited to the connection capabilities of your wireless clients. If you go to this link, http://www.ampedwireless.com/products/sr600ex.html, you can clearly see the disclaimer that states the above mentioned. Please feel free to call our tech support line at 888-573-8820 if you have any questions regarding the functionality of our products.

3 out of 5 eggs2 Changes would make this great

Pros: Outdoor exposure doesn't seem to be a problem
Great range

Cons: This loses 2 stars for these (in my mind) big drawbacks:

1. I really, REALLY hate your Auto-DNS feature. I am experienced with setting up networked devices but I do not understand what purpose this serves. Often I am mounting or setting up these devices where an actual internet connection is unstable or nonexistent. With Auto-DNS enabled, I am left in a redirect hell loop and can only get out of it with a static IP and static DNS/gateway settings on my laptop/device. This can be a hassle to do if its mounted 60feet in the air. I REALLY wish this feature was removed or at least turned off by default. Experienced people know how to setup network devices and when to use static IPs or grab one from a DHCP server. This is the very first setting I change when I get an Amped device.

2. This is a larger issue than the first and a HUGE drawback in my mind. Their implementation of PoE is proprietary and will only work with their included adapter. I've checked the documentation and spoke on the phone with a tech support. Both said you needed to use the proprietary PoE adapter included; you cannot plug it straight into any PoE switch and expect it to power up AND transmit data through the switch's PoE port. If it could, this would be a killer feature as I can use ONE PoE switch to power my IP cams and the SR device connecting to the LAN wirelessly. If I needed to choose between only the two drawbacks listed, I would rather have this PoE situation changed. It would really make these almost a necessity for my IP cam setups.

Other Thoughts: This would get 5 stars from me if both my drawbacks were addressed. Other than those two, I've had great experience so far with their long-range professional series of wifi equipment.

1 out of 5 eggsRUN AND DO NOT LOOK BACK

Pros: I have learned to never buy another amped wireless product.

Cons: The first one I purchased was DOA, the second one died in less then 3 month. Now I'm trying to RMA the second one and their website RMA feature is broken.

Manufacturer Response:

Anonymous,
We are sorry for the trouble you are experiencing with our unit. If you are having issues with the power to the unit it could be the POE injector and not the unit itself. Also, if you need to RMA the unit please contact our tech support center at 888-573-8820 so that a technician can assist you with the RMA process.

1 out of 5 eggsRead the reviews and stay away

Pros: Easy setup wizard.

Cons: Stopped working after 1 day. I didn't read the reviews before I bought this, but I should have. It worked for the first day but after that, nothing. I reset it, tried with different computers, but nothing could connect or could connect but wouldn't get through to the internet. I tried calling support but I started reading reviews as I waited on hold and after about 10 minutes, I had read all I needed to and gave up.

Other Thoughts: Don't waste your time - this is an obvious fail.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsWorthless

Pros: None

Cons: I hooked this up to send a signal about 500ft line of sight. It couldn't even do that. I had a 5 year old Netgear router that the signal was better. Don't waste your money.

Manufacturer Response:

This repeater is designed for point to point networks and will work with another Pro Series devices for up to 1.5 miles. The Professional Series SR600EX has a directional antenna pattern. It emits a bi-directional pattern with 80% of its power coming out the face of the unit at a 30 degree horizontal and vertical plane. This type of signal will not compare with the omni-directional antenna of a router. You may have had the wrong application for this device. Give our US based Elite Support team a call and we can assist you with the use of this device or recommend a product that would work for you needs.

1 out of 5 eggshope i can return

Pros: none

Cons: bought this to transmitt 200 yards, barely works, bought $30 epimax repeater works great.

Manufacturer Response:

The Pro Series Smart Repeater is designed to provide an option for a long distant point-to-point network. The signal is directional, not omni-directional like the Edimax repeater you replaced our device with. If you contact an Amped Wireless Concierge, we can help explain the how the signal patterns work with our products and can help you decide which option is the best for you.
