The Amped Wireless High Power Wireless-N Pro Access Point adds extreme range, high speed Wireless-N access for existing wired networks. With a high power 600mW power amplifier and a high gain directional antenna, the AP600EX is capable of providing up to 1.5 miles of wireless coverage. The Pro Access Point features a weatherproof outdoor/indoor enclosure with desktop, wall and pole mounting options. True Plug and Play set up, makes setup as simple as connecting the AP600EX to your router's network port. The AP600EX is great for providing long range wireless coverage for large indoor/outdoor areas or building to building applications.

Note: To achieve wireless range of up to 1.5 miles, it is necessary to use Amped Wireless Pro Series products together with line of sight: SR600EX – Pro Repeater, AP600EX – Pro Access Point and/or UA600EX – Pro USB Adapter. Indoor performance will be limited by the wireless environment and will not reach up to 1.5 miles.

1 out of 5 eggsWOW,.. Cheap

Pros: Fast, easy to use.

Cons: NO durability

Other Thoughts: I purchased several of these to implement networking on my Range. It did everything it should have... for a while. Within 4 months of installation, I had replace EVERY one... (about half a dozen). Buy at your own risk!!!

1 out of 5 eggsSounds great on paper!

Pros: The access point (when paired with an SR600EX "Smart Repeater of the same make) provided a perfect signal from 1000 feet away through a few thin trees. PoE design

Cons: The device stopped working after about an hour of being powered on. The unit would broadcast an SSID, but refused to accept connection from a computer or even the Smart Repeater.

Other Thoughts: Amped Wireless's tech support was of no help, returned to the retail electronics superstore where it was purchased.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointment

Pros: Seems Weatherproof.
Wall Mountable.
Has PoE.

Cons: Range is very disappointing. I had a Airport Express give better range than this. The signal on the AP600EX was better then the AirPort Express, but the connection is not. Connection would always drop. I can never get a constant connection.

When Logging in to the AP600EX, it would say unable to join the network and when it did join, it would disconnect a minute later. Note this is about 400-500 feet away from the AP600EX.

I don't think the distance was too far. About 400-600 feet away.
It's from home to work.

Other Thoughts: I first saw this on Engadget and have good reviews, so I thought it would be a great replacement for my AirPort Express, since with was hanging in middle of a window and was kinda a eyesore. I had high hopes for this since it was mountable outside and was out of my sight and capable of 1.5 miles of range with a repeater. I would expect the AP600EX to get at least 800-900 feet without any repeater. I guess I was wrong.

I am very disappointed. For a 600mW yagi antenna it should do better than 600 feet without problems
I'm going to switch back to the Express since it doesn't disconnect as much as the AP600ex for now until I figure out what to do to improve the signal of the AP600ex.

If I was to compare a decent Wireless N router and the AP600EX with the same price range. I would say the router would get about the same range as the AP600EX if you put them in the same place.

NewEgg's Shipping couldn't get any faster. Order in the afternoon and at my door in next morning.

Manufacturer Response:

We apologize for the negative experience with your Access Point. It sounds like you may have mis understood the design of this AP. The Professional Series Smart Access Point (AP600EX) has a directional antenna pattern. It emits a directional pattern out the face of the unit at a 30 degree horizontal and vertical plane. They are designed for long distance point to point networks, rather than a providing a coverage area like your Airport Express. You are also out of range of your end device. At 400 ft you would need a high powered WiFi adapter to connect. Wireless IS 2 way communication, though the AP600EX is providing the signal, your device can't send the information back. It sounds like you may want a 600mW router (R10000) configured as an access point so you can achieve a 10,000 sq ft coverage area to extend your network.

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't live up to its claims

Pros: It's weather proof... or so it says.

Cons: It says it can go up to 1.5 miles. It most definitely can not. I realize that it's a directional antenna, and it's supposed to work together with the appropriate wireless repeater or adapter to go the distance. But my cheap wireless router that I got from my phone company broadcasts farther at a lower signal loss even when the directional antenna is pointed straight at my wireless adapter. This is definitely not worth the money. The external antenna port is just about worthless too.

Other Thoughts: The D-Link DAP-2590 is about a hundred dollars more, but it's by far worth it. It's a way better alternative to this AP.

Manufacturer Response:

We apologize for your negative experience with your AP600ex. This device is intended to work in cooperation with another Amped Wireless Pro Series device for the 1.5 mile range guarantee. If you would like to add the SR 600ex to the mix to fully achieve the distance advertised, contact us at customerservice@ampedwireless.com and we will send you a coupon code for 35% off the repeater.
