1 out of 5 eggsThis thing is completely unusable

Pros: Once you set it up, which may take days of troubleshooting... it has decent range.

Cons: I thought the price ensured I would be receiving a hassle free experience but I was wrong. This is probably one of my worst gadget purchases I have ever made, and one that cost me about $80. Should have gone with a much cheaper alternative with reliable brands like netgear. Setup on this device is an absolute nightmare. The provided default ip is not functional and neither was WPS which seems to work on all my other devices except this one. I had to stop the setup page immediately after connecting just so it would try to forward to some non-existance website. Once I figured out the trick, I figured the worst part was over, but I was wrong. This thing couldn't just request unused ip address on my network, but instead stole my pc ip address and bumped me off. I then spent the next few days trying to figure out how both devices could coexist on the network until I finally caved and just changed my pc address to a static ip. How the heck is someone with little knowledge of networks and ip addresses supposed to set this thing up. Amped really needs to clean up their act or at least price their products like cheap brand name knockoff from China because I really feel like I was swindled into buying a half-baked product.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Effective

Pros: Exceptionally easy to set up.

1) Connect to it using Wifi
2) Browse to the unit's setup page
3) Pick your home Wifi from the list of nearby hotspots
4) Log in to your home Wifi
5) Done

You can customize the SID or just clone your existing setup.

It can output a very strong signal (see comments).

Cons: It is not magical (see comments).

Other Thoughts: I'm a manager so I have a low threshold for dealing with [censored] devices. This is a pretty solid item.

As good as it is, it needs to receive a decent signal to be able to do its job. No magic is done. It can only relay what it gets. That said, I had no problem finding a sweet spot half way between the router and my target coverage location.

It puts out 600mW. That's a lot of radio energy at this frequency. I wouldn't install it near a little kid's bedroom. The good thing is that you can dial it down in steps with the browser app. It should be set to the lowest that will still give you all the bars at your target location. No sense broadcasting to the neighborhood.

5 out of 5 eggsIt works

Pros: Does exactly what it was made for.
Easy setup.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: used to extend signal to an all metal building 200 ft away from the source router. The small antenna included was not big enough and the outlet to plug this in was not in a good location. Purchased a wireless antenna and some extra wire and ran the antenna to a window facing the location of the router and it worked great.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent way to add coverage, great product & service!

Pros: I purchased this product and was delighted with the results. Setup was pretty easy and the US based customer support was outstanding!!! Hard to find support in the US now a days!!
After setting it up, the wireless signal everywhere in our house is significantly stronger than before. (The unit came with a link for a free app for Android that tells me the strength of all the available wireless networks in the vicinity.) Away from my living room, where the router is, the signal from our router was about on a par with the one from our next door neighbor in a detached house. With this unit set up, the signal in my wife's study (next to mine, where the brand-new router is) went from 74% to 99-100% even though the extender is in another room, about as far from her desk as the router is (and with walls between). There was comparable improvement all over the house. In the rooms where we stream via Netflix, the signal went from fair to excellent. I'm very pleased with this item!!

Cons: None that I can see so far!

2 out of 5 eggsdifficult configuration due to buggy software, underwhelming performance

Pros: compact package, easy to hide near any outlet, good range

Cons: Difficult to configure due to bugs in autoDNS. This is the part that translates the device IP to a name ( The problem is if you change the default IP address of the device, the autoDNS software doesn't find out about it and the device becomes unreachable, even if you try to reach by IP only. Trick was to disable autoDNS to make this work.

Setup was unusually difficult and required multiple resets to factory defaults.

Tech support is beyond inane: I setup a chat session when I had the autoDNS isssue and the rep told me it was easier to talk through it, better for me to call. But if I was put on hold for too long, I could start another chat. Not easy to find such inane, unprofessional tech support these days.

Other Thoughts: Bear in mind the speed reported by this is raw wifi speed. Run an internet speed test through and the speed will be about 1/3 what the wifi adapter says. That's because http and file downloads run over TCP, which reacts to packet losses by throttling down, and there are more packet losses on wifi than wired.

Don't expect 40Mbps on a speed test.

Did provide some improvement in some corners of the house with poor reception and after all the hassle setting it up, will keep it. But a disappointment.

Manufacturer Response:

The REC10 was designed for ease of use for the most users. Auto-DNS was to help getting into the setup page easier for default settings. We are sorry that you have not found our support unhelpful. Your description on the performance does not sound typical of the REC10. If its not too late, we want to make things right. Please give us a call to 888-573-8830 and we can have a supervisor correct this issue.
