1 out of 5 eggsWill Die in Many Occasions

Pros: Can connect in simple web-browsing circumstances.

Cons: Overheats and disconnects in many occasions, including, but not limited to:
1. bittorrents
2. some video streaming services
3. some software updates
4. other random occasions

Using this on my desktop computer. Whenever distributed downloading is involved, it overheats and internet connection dies. Have to unplug and re-plug in, or sometimes reboot the computer, to regain internet access.

With the same router and internet provider, the built-in wireless of my laptop can handle such tasks without breaking a sweat.

Other Thoughts: Probably

5 out of 5 eggsA clear comparison

Pros: Immediate stable connection at high speed

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Clear cut comparison: Rosewill RNX-N100 had signal strengths varying from 3 bars to 1 bar (on Windows XP status monitor) and disconnected about every 15 minutes. This Belkin has consistent 4 bars, sometimes 5 bars, and never disconnects.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello skywarner,

Thank you for writing your review. We are glad to hear your adapter is working so well for you. Please write to us at customercare@belkin.com if you ever have any questions or comments for us.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Purchased this elsewhere in a pinch. Install was a no brainer. Used the WPS setup and worked like a charm. Picked up both 2.4 and 5.0 GHz bandwiths from my dual band router (Netgear 3700) and connected easily to each as well as my guest network using WPA2 security. This puppy has handled all that I have thrown at it: gaming, HD video, streaming. No dropped connections or missed packets.

Cons: Initial speed of 133-150MHz was better but disappointing. Boosted with a little tweak (see below).

Other Thoughts: (XP SP3)Opened Network Connections then right clicked on the Wireless Network Connection>properties>configure Belkin Wireless adapter. On the Advance Tab, I changed the Bandwith Capatability from 11a/b/g/20MHz to 11a/b/g/20/40MHz and my connection speed jumped immediately to 270-300Mbps. For the past week, it has provided the fastest and most stable wireless connection. Getting me another one!

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsHATE IT!!

Pros: I guess good when i got it to work. thing is i had to switch my modem to 5ghz...problem is everything else in my home runs at 2.4ghz! it says it runs both at 2.4 and 5ghz...i tried for awhole day trying to fix it to run at 2.4ghz...wouldnt connect to the freakn wireless...so i finally switch the 5ghz on and bam!! works!! but everyone started complain that their inet drops and i went to their laptops wireless radios...nope...so now i'm stuck writing this while everyone angry at me...thanks belkin!!

Cons: ONLY 5GHZ!!! WHY!!!!! some serious issues here with this piece of USB stick!!

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for writing your review. This is a very odd issue you are having as the 2.4ghz and 5ghz networks run independently of each other and should not affect performance of the other. Please write us at customercare@belkin.com and we will have a Senior Technician contact you to help resolve this issue.

3 out of 5 eggsHad Better!!!

Pros: Fast internet connection
Great Gain
Easy to install

Cons: When ever I started transferring files from one PC to another. I would loose connection and the adapter would disappear. My PC did not recognized the USB was attached. I had to pull it out and reconnect it to get PC to recognize it.

Other Thoughts: If you are ONLY going to use this for internet. You should be fine.

Talking between PCs. Stay away from it!

Manufacturer Response:

Hello shlepo,

Thank you for writing your review. That is an odd issue you describe. Please write us at customercare@belkin.com and we can have a senior technician contact you regarding this.

4 out of 5 eggsgood adapter

Pros: Receiving on average 112mbs, I too live in an apt. and my comp sits about 40 ft away with 2 walls and 1 floor in between, I even get signal on 5ghz which is supposed to only have short ranges but the 2.4 comes in stronger ussually. Overall its gets better signal than any other adapter I've had.

Cons: The price is a bit high, for what you pay you should be getting a full signal no matter what is in the way or how far you are.

5 out of 5 eggsMy most stable connection

Pros: I got mine at an Office Supply Chain.

The router is a touchy Linksys WRT-120n. Three clients: 1) an Inspiron 1520 laptop that connects at 65 Mb/s at 20 MHz-wide channel and faster at 40 MHz but just loses connection sometimes and requires a fight to reconnect. 2) a Linksys WUSB600n that was awful before I uninstalled all the CD software, but is pretty stable now that it did a generic XP installation. 3) this Belkin. I never ran the installation CD, instead let XP SP3 plug-n-play take care of everything itself. It is the most stable of the connections, and squeezes 135 Mb/s (at 40 MHz channel) out of the WRT120n from 40 feet away and through 3 walls. Out of consideration for a crowded apartment complex, I cut back the router for a 20 MHz channel, so the Belkin connects at 65 Mb/s, too, with a strong signal.

Cons: I gained confidence in the Belkin, and disconnected the 50 foot ethernet cable that I attached just in case of emergency, and during the learning curve. I think I learned how to wrestle the laptop into reconnecting when necessary, so I don't need the cable there, either. I think I'm ready to roll up the cable and put it back in the drawer.

Other Thoughts: Using XP's native plug-n-play software, you have the create a network name (SSID), choose WPA2-PSK-AES, and create a Network Key. This is rocket science the first couple of connections, but soon becomes old hat.

After reading a bunch of NEWEGG reviews on wireless routers and adapters, the wireless-utilities that come on the installation CDs only cause problems. I recommend taking all those CDs, and make a mobile to hang over your baby's crib. Don't put the CDs in your computers. Even the Inspiron is more stable now that I've de-activated the funky, original-equipment Intel ProSet Wireless utility, and just stick with the [laptop's] native XP "Wireless Connection Properties." It's got all the functions, but it's a little less colorful than the after-market utilities, and the laptop is much more stable.

Any future wireless networking purchases will be dual band, and at least 300 Mb/s. Looking at the Linksys E4200, and I won't use the included CD.

1 out of 5 eggsCouldn't be worse

Pros: Nothing - Newegg processed return without any hassle.

Cons: Would not recognize setup disc, I spent 2.5 hours with Belkin "Tech Support" trying to get this item to work. I made two calls and lost a lot of hair.

Other Thoughts: Belkin should get a technical support group that knows what they are doing and not just reading a trouble shooting script in very bad English. I think one of the problems might be the driver software is not developed fully and they are trying to put on a band-aid.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Anonymous,

Thank you for writing your review. Please accept our apologies for the initial setup issues you faced. If you do ever have any questions or comments for us please do not hesitate to write us at customercare@belkin.com.
