** The standard transmission rates - 150Mbps (for 2.4 GHz), 300Mbps (for 5Ghz), and 11Mbps - are the physical data rates. Actual data throughput will be lower and may depend on the mix of wireless products used.

* Test measured average throughput within a home network when connected devices are placed at various distances from router. The Belkin router had the highest average throughput at measurements greater than 30 feet. Leading routers were determined by identifying the most commonly purchased routers that collectively accounted for a majority of router sales. The stated transmission rate is the physical data rate. Actual data throughput will be lower. Actual speed and distance will vary depending on interference, network traffic, building materials, and other environmental factors.

Cons: Not maintaining a connection when being used. Huge hassle and terrible product. DO NOT BUY! You will throw away. I will stay away from Belkin from now on.

1 out of 5 eggsCheap product

Pros: Inexpensive, available at walmart for $30 (or it was last May when I bought it), fairly plug-n-playable.

Cons: I bought this initially as a travel buddy so I could have wifi in hotels that didn't offer it. At first it was fine, maybe a couple of hiccups.

I came home and set it up permanently as our Wifi router. It started to not work very well (about a month in I'd need to reset it occasionally).

For the last two months I've had to reset it more often. I've also started using the virtual port server whatsit to host both a Minecraft server and set up remote desktop connection. I've had to reset it on average about once a week, until two weeks ago. Now it's been every couple of days. Randomly the ports will close and I will have to go into setup, disable them (they'll still be enabled, but closed) and reenable them. It's very frustrating. My Minecraft server and remote desktop will go down for a couple of days at a time before I realize it because the ports have randomly clammed.

Other Thoughts: If you want a router that will work half decently for a couple of months, here's the one for you. Also, the "free domain" bit they talk about requires registration with a third party and you have to pay for the account you need in order to claim it. In other words, Belkin lied to you.

2 out of 5 eggsEasy to install

Pros: Very simple to install. cheap.

Cons: Connectivity issues. I used this router to turn my internet connection into wifi. In the weeks prior to installing this router, I had zero connection issues with my ISP. After installing this router, I get random "Limited Connectivity" messages from the router, yet my modem shows everything is working correctly. When this happens, I have to restart my modem AND the router to recreate the connection. Using the provided "self fix" function on the router has also proven to be useless so far, as it usually tells me that it failed.

Other Thoughts: I have a laptop that uses Win 7 and a desktop that uses Win 8 beta. I figured I would give Belkin a chance after primarily being a Netgear user for the last 10 years, but I think I may be returning this router and picking up a Netgear again.

5 out of 5 eggsIt does the job

Pros: This router is the latest N protocol and it is a no-brainier to install, even for the novice. It has decent speed and range for home use.

Just run the CD & it is almost P&P. A unique security key is preinstalled for each unit.

WPA2 256-bit encryption is standard.

Cons: Just a minor point, but there are no lights showing which Ethernet connections are in use.

Other Thoughts: If you need a basic N wireless router to connect remotely to the Internet, this will do the job.

I have installed a number of these for friends and have no issues.

Note that the default setting is no administrative password, which is probably OK for a home network since you need the encryption key to access the device wirelessly.

The address is slightly nonstandard to manually add a password, which many suggest.

Manufacturer Response:
