Edimax br-6544n
- Pros: Great router easy to set up works well.
- Cons: none
- Other Thoughts: I wound buy this router over netgear, linksy,or D-link
TERRIBLE ROUTER
- Pros: None
- Cons: This is an absolutely terrible router. It doesn't support changing the gateway on the DHCP client, and doesn't even use my 15 dBi Hawking antenna when I plug it in! I have a US Robotics router that uses the antenna absolutely fine, so I know it's the router. Wireless N doesn't even work, I've never achieved a bitrate higher than 54 Mb/sec, even when I was right next to it with my laptop. This router is an absolute waste of money, and I feel bad for anyone who buys it.
Nice look, mediocre firmware
- Pros: Nice look, basic functions work.
- Cons: Background. My home network consist of two segments served by two chained routers: WAN - router 1 - LAN1 (semi-open) - router2 - LAN2 (closed). Edimax wireless router was installed as router 1 instead retired NetGear b/g one.
Firmware on Edimax was updated to version 1.33. Update was smooth simple and smooth. However during setting router up I found quite a few issues, I briefly listed below: 1. If LAN IP range is changed from default 192.168.2.xxx (I tried 192.168.15.xxx, 192.168.11.xxx), built-in DHCP server doesn't work for wireless clients. As a workaround I had to move LAN2 from 192.168.2.xxx to 192.168.10.xxx. 2. If static DHCP lease is defined, EZView doesn't show client's name and indicates that client is OFFLINE in port forwarding table. Port forwarding works though. If static IP address is assigned to computer (outside of DHCP range, of course) or dynamic lease is used, router shows computer's name and status properly.
- Other Thoughts: Cons (continue):
3. Any settings assigned through Advanced EZView (e.g. port forwarding, blocking, etc) are not stored and are forgotten after router restart on "Apply" button. 4. Static IP WAN configuration page has only one field for DNS server. You can't specify secondary DNS. 5. I could not connect to 802.11n network from any of three my notebooks (Sony VGN-AW190, Lenovo Y310, P-7801u FX). 6. When WPA2 was specified wireless clients were able to connect to the network, but none of them was able to get IP address from router's DHCP server. Switching to less secure TKIP solved problem, but I am not happy with such solution.
