5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: No packet loss. no errors , very smooth no lag while downloading or uploading as well streaming.

Cons: wpa2 (AES) doesnt work with the 360 so had the universal repeater to wpa
disc does not work in windows 8

Other Thoughts: how to set up without disc through webgui heres how
1. input into the ip4 properties while being connected to the edimax by lan for your ip 192.168.2.10
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.2.1 enter that hit ok
2 open up browser and type 192.168.2.1 there u go should tell you the login and pass in the box that pops up.
3. set it up for what you need
4. when your done open up the adapter and click ipv4 then properties and click the bubble to allow it to auto assign ip and dns blah blah blah pretty simple.
5. once it pulls u a ip from the original router if ur in repeater mode should be allowed to get to the internet

if you cant connect your xbox to it try this

1. go to your main router change the security to wpa2/wpa mixxed if your using a passphrase and not wep
2. go back to the computer connected to the edimax go to the adapter properties then click ipv4 properties type in what is above to access the web gui.
3.go into the security tab in the web gui and change wpa2 to wpa(TKIP). with the wpa preshared if your in repeater mode.
4. go back to the adapter properties and like above let it give u a ip and dns again.
5 check if u have internet now if u do then ur extender is now connected to the router again.
6. connect succeds on connecting to the extender then u will now see it trying to gain a ip for the internet.

Cheers mates hope this helps

5 out of 5 eggsWorks like advertised!!!

Pros: - Small footprint unit
- Simple setup (if you skip the CD and follow the guide documented on vendors website)
- Works as advertised!! This is the major point....why bother with a product if it doesn't work in the first place!
- Amplies signal to otherwise weaker Wifi spots out of bound by primary router
- Cost effective solution (major plus!!)
- One week since install and no reboots, 100% stable.

Cons: -Supplied CD and documentation is vague..if anything, these will only lead to frustration
- No physical power button to turn on/off (some see this as a con but it doesn't bother me....I've been working with electronics for 15 yrs and I always disconnect the power source directly)

Other Thoughts: This is the 2nd Wifi Extender that I purchased to solve my Wifi issues in my 2 story 3500 sq feet house. The first was a more expensive Linksys AP which worked but would lock up my primary router under heavy load (Netflix streaming, UTube and console gaming). Worked with their tech support and they never really resolved issue. I returned that one back to A'zon.

Was a little hesitant with this product simply cos it sounded too cheap :-). But I ordered it. Once configured, it worked excellent. In the lower rooms where I had the most reception issues, my devices are getting connected at 150MB (N network). My kids stream lots of shows via Netflix/Hulu and the connection stays robust.

So basically, my primary Buffalo Air Station is on the 2nd floor and the EdiMax is on the ground floor which extends the network to the lower level (all over).

It's been a week now and I haven't rebooted the EdiMax nor my Buffalo. 100% stability so far.

Other thoughts:
- DONT use the CD. Print out the manual from Edimax's website and follow it to the teeth. Setup shouldn't take more than 15 mins of your time
- Note this comes with a pre-assigned IP address so you have to manually change the IP on your laptop/desktop to connect to it the first time to configure it. Once configured, change the IP on the EdiMax to something to reflect your WiFi network subnet.

4 out of 5 eggssimple to set up ....

Pros: Dead Simple to set up. Read the quick start guide, let my router give the box and IP, and entered the WAP code ...

Cons: Took two tries to realize that I had to let my system assign the IP, and had to disconnect another wifi repeater that I had in another part of the house.

5 out of 5 eggsAwsome

Pros: Works great and does what it says.

Cons: Wasn't free... but hey everyone has to make money.

Other Thoughts: After reading the other reviews I saw how EDIMAX responded to help. Guys, before complaining try changing your chanels and get rid of the interference.
I am now a huge fan of EDIMAX, good on you mates.

2 out of 5 eggsNot worth the effort

Pros: Set up quick and easy with wizard

Cons: As an access point it works great for short while, then locks up entire network. As a repeater it drops off line then needs to be restarted to go again.

Other Thoughts: Tired of messing with this thing! I set it up three different ways only to have problems a few hours later. Applied all the firmware updates, no help. Ive had other edimax products before and never had any problems. I'm tossing this one and going to try a netgear range extender.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We are sorry for the difficulty you are experiencing.
We appreciate your feedback and would like to help you solve the problem.

May we suggest you check the Wi-Fi channels of those WiFi networks around you? Avoid using the same or similar channel with them. Only channel 1, 6, and 11 are not overlapping with each other. There are some other possible interference device like 2.4Ghz cordless phone, Wi-Fi speakers.

We need more information from you to provide possible solutions to solve your problem. Please contact our tech support at (408)988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us ". Our tech support team will assist you with the issue. We look forward to the opportunity to serve you.

Best regards,
Edimax Tech Support Team

4 out of 5 eggsWorks like a charm once you set it up correctly

Pros: Bought this a few years ago as a wifi repeater. Couldn't get it to work in the beginning. Did some troubleshooting on it about a year later when I decided to try it again and found it was user error. Now it works like a charm. Set it up for my father and it works flawlessly with his Rosewill router. Bridges about 150ft gap from his office to his house and between the two covers about 5,000sq/ft in a long house without a hiccup.

Cons: Setup is a little tricky, there are a couple settings you can use for wireless repeating and they can be confusing depending on how you want to bridge the connection. In the end you will probably want to use the recommend repeater setting.

1 out of 5 eggsQuality control issue

Pros: Software is well-designed; features are great, allowing the unit to function in 3 different capacities.

Cons: I strongly believe that the issue with Edimax is quality control.
I set my unit up as a repeater to extend my network range. The unit was easy to set up (for a techie). All of the indicators suggested a successful setup - while plugged in to my wired network. As soon as I unplugged from the network, the (wireless) network disconnected.

After extensive troubleshooting, I discovered that the unit never really worked as a repeater. It was really working as an access point (while plugged in to the wired network, of course). A little further observation showed that the wireless network (created by the access point) was disconnecting every 15-20 seconds, after which my computer would need to scan and reattach to the network, which reappeared after a few seconds.

I verified this behavior exactly with both my Windows 7 laptop and my Kindle Fire.

Other Thoughts: I believe that some of these units work as advertised. Many reviewers have stated as much. My problem is that I run a business that requires a functioning network. I can't be troubleshooting a wireless network all the time.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Price, Tech support

Cons: A bit tricky to set up.

Other Thoughts: Let me just say I almost through in the towel on the Edimax as a range extender because I just could not connect to the internet through it. The Edimax tech support was excellent and would not give up until the problem was fixed (which happened to be my wireless router, not the Edimax). Puts out a great signal and is now working great as a range extender. A+ Tech Support!

3 out of 5 eggsGood Product But REQUIRES A Call To Tech Support

Pros: Inexpensive and eventually functional. Tech support over the phone was excellent!

Cons: Setup was impossible for an average user. Documentation was woefully inadequate. Website is worthless for support.

Other Thoughts: I literally spent hours trying to get this unit to function as a range extender. When it became obvious that the included documentation was incomplete, I looked on forums and found gobs of info, much of it useless or just plain incorrect. I left a message on Edimax's worthless website that was completely ignored. Finally, I contacted their tech support (408.496.1105). The gal who helped me must have been a 3rd degree black belt in network-fu. She was really sharp and guided me through a maze of windows and settings to get everything set up. (Tip: Your router can use WPA-Personal and TKIP OR WPA2-Personal and AES but NOT WPA2-Personal and TKIP if you want it to communicate with this AP in range extender mode) Even with a knowledgable support person, it took almost an hour to get everything working. If you are a 10th level networking wizard, this AP will bring you joy. If you had trouble programming your old VCR, then run away now! If you have average technical abilities and think you should be able to set this AP up, you will be miserable. LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE! - At the first sign of difficulty, just call their tech support and spend an hour with them rather than wasting several weekends due to their insufficient documentation. It's a shame as I would have happily rated this hardware higher if Edimax had included enough information to allow the average user to actually set it up themselves.
