5 out of 5 eggsExcellent!

Pros: - Small enough to leave plugged in all the time
- Decent reception for such a small unit
- Connects at 120-150mbps consistently in my home
- Blue LED light is not annoyingly bright
- Between this adapter and my wireless router (Currently a Buffalo WZR-600DHP) my internet latency only goes up by ~8ms vs wired; more than acceptable for me.

Cons: - None

Other Thoughts: I've been using this for about a year as a replacement for the awful Intel 7260 wireless in my Lenovo Y410P. It has worked flawlessly and it was much cheaper to just buy one of these adapters instead replacing the wireless card in my laptop. Very satisfied. If it died tomorrow, I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great but maybe not for commuters

Pros: Works exactly how it advertises
Small size
Good network discoverability
Stays connected

Cons: The plastic case broke early (within 2 weeks of use)
Prongs were vulnerable after the plastic broke
prong broke completely
no longer works (3 weeks later)

Other Thoughts: I absolutely loved this product but because I travel a lot, I think it broke while I was walking to and from the bus or the ferry. I'm so sad! I'm tempted to buy another because it was the only way my computer could get online.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Small, cheap, and works sufficiently some of the time.

Cons: Occasionally, transfer rates will slow to a 1Mbps crawl for no reason.

The computer it's on only sits about 4ft away from the modem and I don't have this problem with any other device connected wirelessly in the house. I have checked every possible source for the issue and it seems to just be this adapter. Not really worth the price or frustration of the RMA.

Other Thoughts: I saw the mixed reviews, decided to take a chance, and I regret it. Don't make the same mistake. Just spend your money elsewhere.

2 out of 5 eggsUsb mini adapter

Pros: Cheap, shipped very quickly

Cons: Half works

Other Thoughts: This product is cheap and to me, it's fairly obvious. I have my computer 10 feet from my router, which is the new fios standard 100mbps and this adapter struggles to maintain a 1mbps field rate from steam. It also lags in every multiplayer game save Chivalry which has excellent netcode. Als my YouTube quite often has to catch up to itself on a mere 480p. Save yourself the hassle and don't get a 10 dollar adapter if you play games or stream videos. It was only 10 bucks so i can't say much else. Skip this one of your a gamer.

4 out of 5 eggsgood value

Pros: Easy to setup and installing drivers from disc is hassle free. Reception is good but in the same room with the router so i can't say about max range. Very compact so you could attach it to a front usb port if you want and not worry about bumping into it.

Cons: It delays OS boot by maybe 2-3 seconds. Nothing I can't live with but there shouldn't be a delay at all. Didn't bother downloading drivers from website to see if it helped cause they haven't been updated since 2012.

Other Thoughts: All in all a solid product. The vast majority of people don't have a connection that will max the speed of a usb port so that isn't an issue. And any one who has a pc that's fairly far from router or on a different floor should consider one that has an antenna sticking out the back. But for an average size bedroom or living room you'll be good.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked like a charm

Pros: Plug and play, started working within seconds. Very small profile.

Cons: It's still only wireless. So it's cheap internet connectivity if you need it, but this is baseline functionality. Fully functional, but completely normal.

5 out of 5 eggsExactly what I needed

Pros: This device is the same size ( or smaller) than wireless mouse receivers. It is very easy to plug it in and forget about it. I needed to get a friends older laptop running Windows XP connected to her wireless. The on-board wireless card could not find the internet. I suspect it is because of the frequency band that was being broadcasted. I inserted the driver CD, installed the drivers and rebooted the PC. Once it was back on, I plugged the device in and it instantaneously saw the wireless signal. I did a speed test comparison with my MacBook Air at the same location, and found that the results were almost identical!

Cons: My only complaint is that the USB device does not have a cap with it. It would be very easy to un-plug it and loose it. So far, I have been using the retail packaging to keep track of the device.

Other Thoughts: Overall, for $8.99 it is extremely worth the small cost... especially when shipping is included (free).

5 out of 5 eggsWOW what range

Pros: Connects My laptop, desktop, and a Raspberry PI to my Comcast Blast WIFI. Quite a lot or range - even if i do live outside of town and not much other interference.

Cons: none

1 out of 5 eggsWorks if you like dialup speed on your cable internet

Pros: Less than $10
For the price it's not worth me screwing around returning it.

Cons: Doesn't work. On an Esprimo Mobile 5535 laptop (old), utilizing the latest drivers on Windows 7 it could make about 2-3 Mbps when a TP-LINK TL-WN722N (relatively much bulkier wifi adapter with an antenna) could get about 18-20 on the same speedtest server a few minutes later. Router in the other room, which is a linksys wrt54gl which about a billion people have.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We are sorry that our EW-7811Un does not work well for you.

The EW-7811Un is quite tiny so its antenna is not large. It can not work well for longer distance. For longer distance and better wireless signal/speed, you may look for a wireless adapter with external antenna. You also can use a USB extension cord for the USB port of your computer. Make EW-7811Un stand up vertically and face to the WiFi router. EW-7811Un will have better reception with much faster speed.

Please feel free to contact our tech support at (408)988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us ". Our tech support team will assist you with any issues. We look forward to the opportunity to serve you.
