4 out of 5 eggsWorks with Pi2

Pros: Inexpensive, Works with Raspberry Pi B+ v1.2, and Pi2 B v1.1, also works w/ Win7. Current Raspbian has drivers in the package. I use it in a powered hub with PIs, but it also works in the Pi ports, IN MY CONFIGURATION with small USB KB and Mouse and a 2 amp Power supply.

Cons: Broke the corner of the cover plastic removing it from a USB port, still works fine

Other Thoughts: Haven't found a less expensive Pi compliant dongle

3 out of 5 eggsFunctions as You'd Expect

Pros: Incredibly small and portable - easily transportable (driver disc isn't as mobile though)

Cons: Incredibly small and portable - you can loose it if you're not careful. A permanent location might be a good idea.
Speed - Slower than most. I haven't quantitatively measured it, but it functions at only 40% of the capacity of one of my more powerful 300Mbps/35dBM antennas.
Range - Quite poor. Got a WiFi signal from my router at 35% strength only 12 feet away, with a single hollow wall in between the two rooms.

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for - a small, low performance dongle for an okay price.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

Thank you for your feedback about our EW-7811Un nano wireless adapters.

The antenna in the nano wireless adapter is so tiny, therefore, its performance is limited while comparing with high gain external antenna. While the EW-7811Un nano wireless adapter is inserted into a USB port, its antenna will be blocked by the computer case. Therefore, if you have an USB extension cord, you may use it for the EW-7811Un so that EW-7811Un is on the outside of the computer case. The reception of the nano wireless adapter will be improved a lot and will help the WiFi speed.

1 out of 5 eggsDid not work

Pros: Small, cheap

Cons: I purchased 2 of these. I tried them on a brand new Dell Optiplex Windows 7 computer.

The first one caused the computer to immediately crash/reboot after driver install. Everytime it restarted, it would immediately crash when it booted into windows. I used the newest drivers from the website.

The second one did not cause the computer to crash, but it caused the startup and shutdown of windows to take several minutes. Also, the network speed was about 0.5mbps. Everytime I restarted the computer with this 2nd one, it took several minutes to boot up and shut down.

Without the usb adapters plugged in, or with a different brand plugged in, the startup and shotdown of Windows was normal and the wireless speed when using another brand was about 20mbps.

Don't waste your time with these. Get something more reliable.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We are sorry that our EW-7811Un nano wireless adapters are not working well for you.

We need to know more information in order to provide suggestions.
What is the distance from the Windows 7 computer to your WiFi router? Does the other brand of wifi adapter have external antenna? Did you install our wireless utility into the computer? Do you have other brand's wireless utility in the computer which may cause the conflict with our wireless utility? Basically Windows 7 has WiFi function, therefore, we can just install the driver in Device Manager without installing the wireless utility.

Please feel free to contact our tech support at (408)988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us ". Our tech support team will assist you with any issues. We look forward to the opportunity to serve you.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well with with backdoor installation

Pros: Cheap, energy-efficient, tiny and innovative design.

Cons: I had a headache installing this piece. The default driver on the CD is deficient, and it will create constant interruptions. There is an updated driver on the Edimax website, but that will continue the blackouts on a lesser scale. The way around this is through the backdoor installation of the driver. The driver package contains a folder entitled RTWLANU_Driver, and it contains a range of drivers for various OS. For Windows, go to device manager, right click on the Edimax wireless adapter under network equipment, and select search for a driver on a specific location in your computer. Then direct to the right folder for your OS under the RTWLANU folder. I've been running a connection smoothly now for 2 days without a single stop sign.

Other Thoughts: It shouldn't be so hard to install a driver for proper operation. Possibly, that is the drawback of saving money, that the company wants to cut corners or penalize users for not buying a more expensive product. All I can say is get over the capitalism.

5 out of 5 eggsCould not be happier!

Pros: It was a breeze to install, and worked right out of the small box it came in. I opted to just connect my desktop via ethernet but have this as well and it is a fantastic wifi tool. I would definitely recommend

Cons: It's small so it can be easy to lose if you are not careful, but for the price, just buy a new one. lol..

Other Thoughts: Easy to confuse with a micro-USB but works great

5 out of 5 eggsCheap, hard to break, great if your expectations are reasonable

Pros: It's tiny, it's almost impossible to graze and snap in half like larger USB wireless adapters, and it's so cheap that you can buy three for the same price as a larger one, and it gets the job done...assuming you have reasonable expectations. It's a tiny adapter with a tiny antenna that can easily be plugged into a back USB port which can cause the computer case to block the signal; this is not the adapter's fault, it's yours for not considering the design before purchasing and installing!

Cons: Tiny antenna and easy to install in a poorly chosen location. They can get quite warm, but failure within one year of use is very rare. Doesn't often get 150.0 Mbps speeds because it's tiny and people seem unable to understand that plugging it into the back of your desktop computer when the router isn't behind the computer too is going to absolutely murder the signal. If you seriously need speed and reliability, you shouldn't be using a wireless link anyway (that's why gigabit Ethernet exists.)

Other Thoughts: Let's face it: you can buy so many of these for the price of one "nomal-sized" USB wireless adapter that even if it's defective, you can just buy another one. They're extremely cheap and quite effective. You need to install them in a USB port that is not between the computer case (or other metal/concrete/brick objects) and the wireless router line-of-sight signal, otherwise you can't blame Edimax for connectivity issues. About 5% of them die within a year based on our customer reports so they're just as reliable as a more expensive unit. We practically buy them in bulk!

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't Work on Ubuntu 14.04 - Update

Pros: None

Cons: They sold me broken hardware. Maybe they should test the products before shipping them out.

Other Thoughts: Tech did respond back, which was cool. However, they want me to pay to send it back even after acknowledging the product they sent was broke. It costs so little, I am better off just buying something else instead of continuing to take chances with them. I bought a Panda 300Mbps Wireless-N USB Adapter. It worked automatically on Mint 17.1. Edimax lost a customer for life, but I am sure they will do fine without me and everyone I tell to stay away from them.

If you buy this product, keep in mind you may get a broken one and they will ask you to pay to return it, which doesn't make a lot of sense because it may cost about the same to just order something else.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Robert,

We are sorry that our EW-7811Un nano wireless adapter is broken.

We have 2 years warranty for all of our products.

Unfortunately our RMA does not cover two way shipping. You will need to pay the shipping to ship the unit to us. We will pay the shipping to ship a replacement unit to you.

If there is anyint that we may further assist with, please feel free to contact our tech support at (408)988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us ". Our tech support team will assist you with any issues. We look forward to the opportunity to serve you.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Decent range for a tiny adapter i get full signal at about 45 feet from my router with 3 walls in the way. Its so small you may not even notice it.

Cons: Its not plug N play with win7 64 bit. The drivers on the disc are terrible and cause random disconnects and slow speeds. The website drivers work if you manually select the 64bit win7 folder from the zip. If you run the setup.exe it loads a driver but it seems to have the same issues as the drivers on the CD.

Other Thoughts: Aside from the search for a driver and tell windows to load it manually thing, its a great little adapter for lightweight work. It streams HD and plays steam titles with an average latency of 50-60ms. I wouldnt buy this if you transfer large files, or require above 7-10 megabytes per second transfer.

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't Work on Ubuntu 14.04

Pros: It is small and it shows great signal strength after updating the drivers.

Cons: It won't work on Linux. I updated the drivers, but the speed is so slow, I cannot even load basic websites without timeout issues. I can very slowly download updates in the terminal, but it is a useless product right now. I regret this purchase and will need to buy something else if support cannot help. It felt like I was a kid back in the early 90's on Netzero.

Product is so cheap, it isn't worth the hassle or money to return.

Other Thoughts: I emailed customer support. I will update after they respond.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Rob,

We are sorry that our EW-7811Un nano wireless adapter does not work well for you.

Thank you for contacting our support for assistance. We suggested you try the adapter on a Windows computer and the adapter also had the same slow issue. We think the adapter is defective because the third party Linux driver should work with Ubuntu 14.04.

We do have 2 years warranty.

Other Thoughts: Small size had me a little dubious about its capabilities, but it works great, perfect for small form factor rigs.
