4 out of 5 eggsGreat deal for price and size

This review is from: EDIMAX BR-6258n IEEE 802.11b/g/n Wireless Nano Size Multi-purpose Travel Router/ Range Extender/ Universal Adapter, Small Size Easy To Carry, iQ-Setup for Hassel Free Installation, and Power Fed by PC/Laptop USB port Supported

Pros: I used this while living in a one-room apartment, and it worked great for my needs. The device itself is very small, yet handled 3 devices well. For travel and small living spaces, this will do a great job.

Cons: My connection dropped on occasion (3-4 times per month), but a quick reset of the router resolved the problem.

Other Thoughts: The router itself is lighter than the cables you connect to it, so it doesn't really sit flat on any surface (especially if your ethernet cables are kinked or twisted). Mine always hovered a few centimeters off the surface of my desk (a minor inconvenience for an OCD person like myself).

1 out of 5 eggsCouldn't get it to work

This review is from: EDIMAX BR-6258n IEEE 802.11b/g/n Wireless Nano Size Multi-purpose Travel Router/ Range Extender/ Universal Adapter, Small Size Easy To Carry, iQ-Setup for Hassel Free Installation, and Power Fed by PC/Laptop USB port Supported

Pros: none

Cons: just doesn't seem to work

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We are sorry that BR-6258n does not work you.

Do you use the BR-6258n wirelessly connect to an existing WiFi network? Or do you hardwire BR-6258n to a cable modem?

We need more information in order to provide suggestions. Please feel free to contact our tech support at (408)988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us " directly.

1 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: EDIMAX BR-6258n IEEE 802.11b/g/n Wireless Nano Size Multi-purpose Travel Router/ Range Extender/ Universal Adapter, Small Size Easy To Carry, iQ-Setup for Hassel Free Installation, and Power Fed by PC/Laptop USB port Supported

Pros: Small, easy setup and that is all

Cons: It was configured as range extender, works good for about 30 min and lost connection with LAN. Tried reset to default setting by pushing Reset/\ button. No avail. No computer can connect with router using LAN port and Ethernet cable.
Now it is only a small red brick. Will RMA it.

Other Thoughts: I will give Edimax one more try because I have good experience with its other wireless products.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry for the difficulty you are experiencing. We appreciate your feedback and would like to help you solve the problem.

Please observe the LEDs on the nano router. Its PWR LED should be solid on. Its WLAN LED should be blinking. If you plug in Ethernet cable to either WAN on LAN port, then WAN or LAN will be on too.

To reset the router to default settings, please hold the Reset clip for 15 seconds until you see the PWR LED turn off briefly.

If you need any further assistance on our products, please feel free to contact our tech support at (408)988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us " directly.

Best regards,

3 out of 5 eggsNew firmware v1.18 breaks WISP

This review is from: EDIMAX BR-6258n IEEE 802.11b/g/n Wireless Nano Size Multi-purpose Travel Router/ Range Extender/ Universal Adapter, Small Size Easy To Carry, iQ-Setup for Hassel Free Installation, and Power Fed by PC/Laptop USB port Supported

Pros: I've had the BR-6258n for a few months. I have tested the WISP a couple of times, connecting it to my home WiFi and also my work WiFi. It works very well, and I did not have any issues.

Yesterday, I visited Edimax's website and saw there was a new firmware update. My current version is 1.14 and the new firmware is 1.18. I downloaded the firmware and updated the device. After the update, I was not able to use the WISP anymore. Each time I configure the WISP and click apply, the router reboots and goes back to Dynamic IP setting. I even reset the router to factor default and re-configured WISP, but I still did not have Internet connection. I e-mailed tech support, but have yet to get a response.

I decided to downgrade back to v1.14. As soon as I did that, I was able to setup WISP again.

Cons: New firmware is flaky and support not that responsive.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Thank you very much for contacting us for support.

We have exchanged several emails. We also did repeated tests on our lab. Unfortunately, we can not reproduce the issue in v1.18 firmware. We manually enter the case-sensitive SSID, correct channel number, and correct wireless security password. BR-6258nL has no problem to connect our Edimax WiFi routers.

Sorry that we do not have the models of your routers for testing. We will continue to work with you. We will do more tests after receiving the configuration file from you.

Best regards,
Edimax Tech Support Team

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product.

This review is from: EDIMAX BR-6258n IEEE 802.11b/g/n Wireless Nano Size Multi-purpose Travel Router/ Range Extender/ Universal Adapter, Small Size Easy To Carry, iQ-Setup for Hassel Free Installation, and Power Fed by PC/Laptop USB port Supported

Pros: Respectable range and speeds.

Cons: Range could always be better but again, it's respectable.

Other Thoughts: This product is simple and it works, that's why I am giving it 5 stars. I need a WAP for my 3rd shift job as there was non available and I wanted to be able to use my iPad. Plugged this bad boy in, used the wizard, and I was up and running in no time.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Value for Faster Speed

This review is from: EDIMAX BR-6258n IEEE 802.11b/g/n Wireless Nano Size Multi-purpose Travel Router/ Range Extender/ Universal Adapter, Small Size Easy To Carry, iQ-Setup for Hassel Free Installation, and Power Fed by PC/Laptop USB port Supported

Pros: Great price
Doubled download speed as a repeater.
So small it is invisible.

Cons: Does not seem to recognize devices other than computers and tablets. Can't access wireless printer.

Other Thoughts: Can't beat the price. Set up was easy. I'm using it as a extender in the family room which is the opposite end of the house from the router. Tested download speeds with and without. With the extender, download speeds more than doubled.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat repeater

This review is from: EDIMAX BR-6258n IEEE 802.11b/g/n Wireless Nano Size Multi-purpose Travel Router/ Range Extender/ Universal Adapter, Small Size Easy To Carry, iQ-Setup for Hassel Free Installation, and Power Fed by PC/Laptop USB port Supported

Pros: Have used this in a hotel that only had a wired internet connection, as well as another hotel that had spotty wi-fi in the rooms. It works beautifully to address both problems. As a repeater, it was easy to set up and gave my phone, tablet, and laptop the needed wi-fi connections in all cases.

Cons: None.

1 out of 5 eggsDead after 1 year

This review is from: EDIMAX BR-6258n IEEE 802.11b/g/n Wireless Nano Size Multi-purpose Travel Router/ Range Extender/ Universal Adapter, Small Size Easy To Carry, iQ-Setup for Hassel Free Installation, and Power Fed by PC/Laptop USB port Supported

Pros: It worked for 1 year as a wireless router/repeater.

Cons: It died after 1 year.

Other Thoughts: This is really disappointing. When I first got this router, I used it as a wireless repeater for about 6 months at my condo. Later on, I brought this router over to my parents place as they had switched to DSL and I needed to get wifi working at their place. It was used for approx. 6 months at their house until I finally got them a proper router with more than 1 LAN port and wifi capability.

This week I decided to hook it back up as a wireless repeater. When I changed the settings accordingly to the wireless repeater settings, it wouldn't connect to my wifi network so I decided to do a reset using the left button on the side of the router. Since then, I have been unable to login to the router configuration page, it is super slow and when the page loads up after 1 minute or so... it just goes blank. Very disappointed in EdiMax and will never purchase a product from them again.

P.S. I got the black version of this router from newegg back in Dec 2012

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We are sorry for the issue you are experiencing.

The nano router has only two ports. The Blue Port is for Internet connection. The Yellow port is for local computer.

Can you please make sure the computer plugged into the yellow port so that your computer can receive an IP address from the nano router. If the computer is plugged into the blue port, the computer can not get into the setup page.

We provide 2 years warranty service for our products.

If you need any further assistance, please feel free to contact our tech support at (408)988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us " directly. Our support team will gladly assist you.

5 out of 5 eggsNow $89?!? Great doohicky, but a 300% increase from even a few months ago???

This review is from: EDIMAX BR-6258n IEEE 802.11b/g/n Wireless Nano Size Multi-purpose Travel Router/ Range Extender/ Universal Adapter, Small Size Easy To Carry, iQ-Setup for Hassel Free Installation, and Power Fed by PC/Laptop USB port Supported

Pros: ... Brilliant product conceptually, dues it all
... I have dozens deployed on our network serving multiple roles
... Wifi range is acceptable given the dimensions of the thing
... USB powered. Again, brilliant. Can be preconfigured for a wireless network and used as a smart wifi client for one or multiple PCs

Cons: MINOR: Can't get the host name of the device changed.
MAJOR: Currently, Newegg's cost. Ridiculous and unwarranted. Maybe if these babies self-configured using telepathy.

Other Thoughts: So soooo versatile. And in days of yore, cheap enough to grab 5 at a time.

5 out of 5 eggsI'm impressed

This review is from: EDIMAX BR-6258n IEEE 802.11b/g/n Wireless Nano Size Multi-purpose Travel Router/ Range Extender/ Universal Adapter, Small Size Easy To Carry, iQ-Setup for Hassel Free Installation, and Power Fed by PC/Laptop USB port Supported

Pros: - All the features of a standard router, and more.
- This thing is tiny.
- USB powered.
- WISP!
- Separate WAN and LAN ports.

Cons: - No travel case included.

Other Thoughts: I bought this for a planned family vacation to have a secure private network at the resort. Configured it with the same wi-fi settings as my home router so that we wouldn't have to change any of our devices to connect. There was no wired ethernet in the room. Not a problem, WISP was easy to connect and worked perfectly. Once a device browsed to the access gateway and entered the hotel passcode all other devices had internet access until it expired (a day or two).

Speed and range were close to my home router and very good in the apartment sized resort condo.

This is truly a great travel router with lots of flexibility and fully capable of handling the job. It is not a home base station like some here expect it to be but it can fill-in as a temporary replacement if needed.

It doesn't come with a case but I won't remove eggs for that. The router and accessories do fit nicely in a Nintendo DS travel case (if you can steal one from your kids).
