4 out of 5 eggsIt works

This review is from: Edimax EW-7612Pin 300 Mbps Wireless 802.11b/g/n PCI Express Adapter

Pros: Yes, it gives you 300 mbps if you have the right access point.
The price is moderate.

Cons: Connection is sometimes somehow unstable; a reconnection attempt happens once in a few days, sometimes taking half a minute to regain the connection. Hopefully it's a driver issue which will be ironed out.

1 out of 5 eggsKiller tech

This review is from: Edimax EW-7612Pin 300 Mbps Wireless 802.11b/g/n PCI Express Adapter

Pros: It was fairly cheap

Cons: Well that's easy - I had it installed for about 20 minutes before it shorted out my motherboard. So, if you're willing to risk that, then this is a great product. Otherwise avoid as though it were made of anthrax.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy. A glass of water is a much cheaper way to ruin a PC.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Rob,

We are sorry that you have issues with EW-7612PIn.

There are 4 types of PCI Express slots with 4 different speeds: x1, x4, x8, and x16. The slots for the four speeds differ in lengths; the higher the speed, the longer the length of the connector on the motherboard. The EW-7612PIn will function in PCIe x1 slot only. Even if it is plugged into PCIe x4, x8, or x6, it should not short out the motherboard.

Maybe the PCI-e adapter is a defective adapter or somehow not compatible with the motherboard.

If you need any further assistance, please feel free to contact our tech support at (800)652-6776 or write an email to " support@edimax.us " directly.

Best regards,
Edimax Customer Service Team

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

This review is from: Edimax EW-7612Pin 300 Mbps Wireless 802.11b/g/n PCI Express Adapter

Pros: I have a desktop with 3 HDDs, Win7 on one, Win XP on a second, and Ubuntu on the last. I had purchased a refurbished Netgear wifi adapter (locally) and it worked fine with Windows, but didn't work with Linux. After reading through numerous threads on the Ubuntu Forum, I decided that it would be best to change. I read some reviews for this Edimax adapter, and it was touted as being good for both Windows and Linux.

I've had it for a while now, and it works great in both versions of Windows, as well as Ubuntu. I have a small network monitor app loaded on my desktop, and it constantly shows a 100% wifi signal from my router, and I've never had one single instance of a dropped signal. As far as I'm concerned, it works flawlessly for what I purchased it for!

Cons: Haven't found anything at all that I don't like with this adapter.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Linux Compatible

This review is from: Edimax EW-7612Pin 300 Mbps Wireless 802.11b/g/n PCI Express Adapter

Pros: PCIe x1 802.11n adapter, external antennas.

Cons: Not Linux compatible as described.
DOA

Other Thoughts: I purchased this adapter specifically because the description stated it was Linux compatible. After a week-long interaction with Edimax tech support, it has come to light that it is not compatible with Linux kernels newer than 3.6.

Another issue is reliability - mine was also DOA, so I cannot vouch for it's operation performance.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Dan,

We apologize for the difficulty you are experiencing. We appreciate your feedback.

Sorry about that it cannot work with Linux lernel 3.6.

5 out of 5 eggsGood so far

This review is from: Edimax EW-7612Pin 300 Mbps Wireless 802.11b/g/n PCI Express Adapter

Pros: So I had an older computer that I'm upgrading so I wanted to move this to the living room and hook it up to the tv. The only thing this needed was a wireless adapter since it's not connected by lan. I ordered this because of the price and reviews and installed this adapter. Right now, my internet does work with it which is why I'm giving it a 5 star rating, but this might change depending on when I finally move this machine to the living room and if it even picks up signal down there.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Right now, my ps3, wii u and laptops and phones have all connection downstairs so this computer should definitely still receive it.

3 out of 5 eggsbad connection when plug in at rear panel

This review is from: Edimax EW-7612Pin 300 Mbps Wireless 802.11b/g/n PCI Express Adapter

Pros: It works great when plug in at the front panel. The connection is good up to more than 10m.

Cons: When plug in to the rear usb panel. It went horrible. The sound would be lagging when streaming some music, even if you are just 1m from it.

2 out of 5 eggsPretty Bad

This review is from: Edimax EW-7612Pin 300 Mbps Wireless 802.11b/g/n PCI Express Adapter

Pros: Came quick, was cheap, has a good signal

Cons: Bought for my new computer build when i got it ran perfect at about 9mbps down and 6mbps up but after a month of ownership the problems hit. It slowed 1.5 down .5 up it would randomly lose signal and sometimes a web page will take over 5 minutes to load!

Other Thoughts: I've tried everything from unplugging and plugging it back in, to restarting my router but nothing has fixed the problems. i don't know if my product is defective or its just a bad product. If anyone could help me with this problem it would be appreciated

2 out of 5 eggsOverall Less Than So-So

This review is from: Edimax EW-7612Pin 300 Mbps Wireless 802.11b/g/n PCI Express Adapter

Pros: Was cheap; works by definition of what the word "works" means.

Cons: Purchased on 10/22/12; worked alright until mid-March when signal began to decline, now connection is spotty at best even after re-installation. Thought it might be router issues, except my two old laptops connect, and have no dropping whatsoever (just using them as an example of "newer is not always better").

Other Thoughts: Bought for $24.99 down from $44.99; now on sale again for $19.99... noticing a slight trend here.

4 out of 5 eggsWork Great, No Problems

This review is from: Edimax EW-7612Pin 300 Mbps Wireless 802.11b/g/n PCI Express Adapter

Pros: Strong signal strength and no connection issues.

Cons: Only reason I didn't give 5 eggs is because the installation includes software other than just the drivers that I don't want. Easy enough to get rid of, but I'd rather have the option to not have it in the first place.

Other Thoughts: I would definitely buy again and recommend to anyone, great performance at low cost.
