5 out of 5 eggsIt works !

Pros: Economic price, easy to install, and stabie connection.

Cons: While surfing the web, it couldn't be better with this extender. But, when it comes to downloading, it's not really fast as before without extender.

2 out of 5 eggsDropping connections after few days

Pros: When it works it's works as advertised

Cons: However, after about 2-3 days the extender wouldn't stay connected. I have to power cycle both the modem and the wireless router. Other times I have to unplug the extender. All of these fixes lasts only for intermittent lengths of time.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We are sorry for the difficulty you had experienced.

May we suggest you try the latest firmware v1.20 from below address.
http://www.edimax.us/download/firmware/EW7438RPN_Edimax_1.20_upg.bin

You can get into your extender's setup page as http://extenderxxxxxx to locate the function for firmware upgrade under Advanced Setting menu.

If that does not help, can we get more information from you? We need to know the brand and model of your Wi-Fi router which our extender is going to connect with. What is the distance between the extender with your Wi-Fi router.

Please contact our tech support at (408)988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us ". Our tech support team will assist you with the issue.

Best regards,
Edimax Customer Service Team

3 out of 5 eggsWorks alright

Pros: Works decently and setup isnt too difficult.

Cons: Disconnects and requires me to reset it every few days. It gets quite annoying due to the fact that I am extending from an area I am not around very often.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We are sorry for the difficulty you had experienced.

Can we get more information from you to provide possible solutions to solve your problem? We need to know the brand and model of your Wi-Fi router which our extender is going to connect with.

You also may use "iQ Setup" in the extender's web page to observe the Wi-Fi channel used by your neighbors. Avoid using the same Wi-Fi channel with their Wi-Fi network. Only channel 1, 6, and 11 are channels not over lapping with each other. That may help reduce the interference.

Please contact our tech support at (408)988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us ". Our tech support team will assist you with the issue.

3 out of 5 eggsTricky

Pros: It is tricky to setup I live in APT with many wifi networks.

Just 1 wall was enough to cause this extender unstable it would show the wifi network but I would not be able to connect,I had to move it to another room and find a best spot.

For people who want to buy make sure you have a good router , I am using old WNDR3700 with DD-WRT firmware

Router position is very important!

When it was plugged very close to my network when I used cable just to test it I would pull 80 mbps down and 35 mbps upload , my internet is 84 mbps / 38 mbps upload from close range via cat5/6 is GOOD.

Cons: I had problems with connecting to my network after entering the wifi information after pressing next the browser would time out on IE , Firefox and Chrome and finally after many resets unpluggin from wall it let me connect.

1 out of 5 eggsActivation URL does not work

Pros: don't know

Cons: Setup/Activation URL doesn't work for me. I (and 2 others) double checked just in case I was typing wrong. It's not me. It's also not the browser.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We are sorry for the difficulty you had experienced.

Please use Ethernet cable to connect EW-7438RPn to your computer. If your computer is W-Fi capable, make sure the Wi-Fi of your computer is disabled. While EW-7438RPn is in default settings, it has IP address 192.168.2.2 and will give a dynamic IP 192.168.2.100 to your computer. You could access the setup page at http://192.168.2.2 if the extender's access key does not work for you.

We have a trouble shooting guide at
http://www.edimax.us/html/Faq/EW7438RPn-TroubleToGetSetupPage.pdf

If you need any further assistance, please contact our tech support at (408)988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us ". Our tech support team will assist you with the issue.

2 out of 5 eggsCouldn't connect

Pros: Easy setup, good directions, design (indicator lights & leaving space around socket)

Cons: Did not transmit internet

Other Thoughts: I could not ultimately get it to work. By WPS it connected to my AT&T 2-wire Gateway fine and the computer connected to it fine, but I could not actually get to the internet. By manual setup, again the extender connected to the computer and Gateway, but again no internet. I made sure the Gateway channel being broadcast matched the channel specified in IQ Setup. Signal strength on the extender was solid orange and to the computer was ~80%, which is very good because I could navigate to the extender quickly and it performed it's function test successfully very quickly. I updated its firmware to .16. I searched the Edimax website and the on-disc manual and the Newegg comments. All the network passwords were correct. All the DHCP settings are automatic. IP address of the extender noted in Gateway matches the IP address noted in my computer's wireless dongle's status window. Nothing fixed it so I'm giving up. So many reviews here say they had it up and working in 5 minutes. So comparatively I've spent way too much time trying to get this thing to work. My guess is there's some single setting buried deep in Windows, or the Gateway, or something.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry for the problems you had experienced.

Please change the channel width setting in our extender.
Go into the configuration page of your extender by typing extender's access key like "http://extenderXXXXXX" in address bar of your web browser.
Go to Advanced Settings, change the Channel Width from Auto 20/40MHz to 20Mhz, then hit APPLY button twice.(See Attachment)

Let's see if this could get your computer on internet through EW-7438Rpn extender.

If you still experience the same issue, please feel free to contact our customer support at (408)988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us ". Our customer support team will assist you with the issue. We look forward to the opportunity to serve you again soon.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Once its up and running it works fairly well.

Cons: Fairly hard to set up. Took over 45 minutes as it had to be done via lan cable. Not able to set it up via wifi

Other Thoughts: I received 2 one worked out of the box after mmuch setup time. The other was dead out of the box. Newegg is handling it as always but product had 50% failure rate out of the box. SO can't give it any more than 3 eggs

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry for the problems you had experienced.

If you are suspicious about the dead unit, you may press the WPS button for 15 seconds (or until you see the PWR LED turn off briefly). It will reset the device to default settings. That may help out to recover the unit.

If the unit is defective, you can get a replacement from us. We have 2 years warranty for our products.

If you need replacement service from us, please feel free to contact our customer support at (408)988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us ". Our customer support team will assist you with the issue. We look forward to the opportunity to serve you again soon.
